It Works for me!
Here's another program to try out. Go to DVDFAB.com, download DVDFAB PLATINUM 4.0.1.2. 30 day free trial. In the top right corner of the program window. click the yellowish-orange gear shaped ICON> click PATHPLAYER> Select Disable Pathpayer. Good program, I never have any problems backing up my DVD collection using this program.

QuikDraw is right on the DVDFab Platinum being a good backup program. It does the job from ripping all the way through the burn. Not many programs left like that. Those using the DVDFab HD Decrypter are already familiar with the interface. The DVDFab HD Decrypter is the decryption portion of DVDFab Platinum and uses the same version numbers. Besides the basic Full DVD and Movie Only that HD Decrypter rips, the Platinum allows for Custom where you can edit what you want.

Partial success!! - though not with Ratatoiulle but with Pirates of the Caribbean World's End; i didn't use DVDFab 4.0.1.4 Beta, just FixVTS followed by vobblanker on the files that DVDFab 4.0.1.2 had originally ripped in main movie mode; reason for posting this here is that the fix might well help with Ratatouille (though of course people should just plump for the new DVDFab Beta instead, i was just determined to get this movie sorted..) However DVD Rebuilder still fails in Phase 3, should've just tried the new Beta instead :(

QuikDraw,
You're welcome. I'm sort of old school though, I don't buy the cow if I'm already getting the milk. ;)

try DVDflick. It's a simple little program, written by an American guy and it works for me everytime. Better than DVD shrink and just as easy to use, if not even easier to use.

Just curious, how does switching to DVD Flick help those of us here wanting to use DVD Shrink? After all, isn't that what this forum is about? That might be more appropriate for DVD for Newbies or Advanced.

Edit:
Took a peak at Flick out of curiosity, the interface isn't as easy as Shrink. I don't see a comparison of as good or better as applicable. Flick is for authoring and encoding and is nowhere as easy to use as Shrink for transcoding DVD. For those who like to author DVDs, DVD Flick might be worth a look. It's freeware hosted at SourceForge.
http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php
I always like a good freebie. This one however is problematic when trying to simply Shrink a DVD to fit target size. I tried opening the files from a Video_TS folder and the program wouldn't open all of them. It only picked up about 20 minutes from Live Free or Die Hard. For what Shrink does, DVD Flick in comparison is a flop.

Why thats discrimination against us yanks :D
Hmmm I wonder what brought that about.

At least alot of us Yanks have already bought it. Using it w/ Clone on Ratatouille was a piece of cake.

I think they call it greed. ;) That's taking extra dollars, euros, yen, pesos, and everything else out of the consumers' pockets. Switching to 1:1 pricing from dollar to Euro is effectively raising the price for everyone. They could have just as easily raised the price in dollars. It may make prices look lower as far as numbers, but it's an excessive raise for anyone buying the program.

Currently $79 US converts to 53.79 Euros (the price for AnyDVD HD). The 79 Euro raises the cost for the US consumer to $116.04 US. That makes it a jump of about $37 US and about 25 Euros. So no one is a winner but Slysoft. I'm glad I already have a copy because there's no way I'd pay that much for the software. DVDFab HD Decrypter is free and the DVDFab Platinum is $49.99 US, on sale. For what a person is currently paying for AnyDVD, they can get the DVDFab Platinum that does the same job as both AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2. I've already got both, but guess which I'd buy at this point in time. I don't like price gouging and this looks like a good case of it from Slysoft. I've heard of cost of living and operational cost increases, but something near a 50% price hike is sticking it to the consumer, irregardless of where the consumer may live.

Isn't the bank for Slysoft in Ireland? Don't they deal in the British pound? This is what's at the bottom of the page when you go to buy a Slysoft program: SlySoft Europe Ltd., MALLOW, CORK, Ireland.

lol - that's the deal buying any program - not just Slysofts - $$$ :)

Guess it was just too early in the am for - I was thinking more along the lines of not selling to the US with the Euro bit -DUNH on me - now it dawned on me :)

I own both-but I would never have paid $116 for either. Like Pacman said Fab is still free, and Recode and Shrink I have also. Sounds like a bad business decision. If the price is truly over $100 I will never recommend $lySoft to anyone again.

Greedy Ba$tard$!

Originally posted by SlySoft:
Effective January 1, 2008, SlySoft will switch its pricing from U.S. dollars to Euro If you are entertaining the thought of purchasing one of our products then now is the right time to act because not only are the old prices still in effect, but you also profit from our 20%-off Christmas Promotion.
I thought I saw somewhere that it was going to be a 1:1 swap from dollar to Euro, but that's not what I just noticed at the Slysoft website. It just says there's going to be a swap but didn't give us the amount of increase. I can see the point for change though. The dollar has been dropping against the euro. To keep from adjusting prices constantly to accomodate the dollar it would be easier to use another currency with a more stable rate of exchange.

Slysoft has been raising the price on the programs and giving rebates. Changing to euros simply means they'll keep digging in the customers' pockets using another currency. I was thinking the program was getting overpriced and Slysoft has done nothing to change my mind. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how bad it's going to be when Slysoft posts the prices in euros.

Edit:
Quote:
"In order to guarantee future software development, SlySoft will change its pricing from U.S. dollars 1:1 to the Euro effective January 1, 2008. The resulting price increase is absolutely justified according to SlySoft CEO Giancarlo Bettini: "The largest cost factor facing a software company is programming. All our developers are already paid in Euro and have been for years. In order to maintain our software at the latest level well into the future and at the same time be able to provide our customers with free updates and free support, a switch to the Euro was simply a logical consequence."

That is where the 1:1 came from. I was thinking I saw it on Slysoft, but not positive. It was posted here at AD earlier by QuikDraw and I saw it on Digital Media Thoughts as well. So, I wasn't dreaming when I saw the 1:1 conversion. If it was posted at Slysoft, they apparently pulled it quickly to prevent an impending boycott. That wouldn't have helped their Christmas sales. Bah Humbug! LOL

I used DVDFab HD Decrypter 4 to rip Ratatouille, and had no problems. I try to shrink it with DVD Shrink 3.2, and it gets about 21% into the analysis, and the entire program shuts down. Is there a newer version of Shrink? Or did I skip something in this thread that answers my question?

Sorry if I missed something...

Eire.. European Union member state.. uses the Euro mickey mouse money ?? I assume they will not accept $$$ because unless it has escaped peoples notice it was a Yankee idea to make copying a dvd you legally paid for a criminal offence.. and supplying software to do the same will land you in court...

Anyway.. a bit of cross referencing with my psl dumper and acidrip does this one just fine yet again.. all the crap seems to be in the extras.

The one that's giving me headaches is Jungle Book platinum edition.

LOL Good one on the Mickey Money and Yankee dollar. The EU signed on to international copyright laws as well as the US. It seems more people pay attention to the US courts. Noisy Americans I guess. However I know for a fact that the Bobbies kicked in a few doors to seize some PCs in the UK. I like the theory though. LOL

Besides Rat and your Jungle story, Diehard, R1, is posing a few problems for doing a full DVD backup or even a backup period with software like RB. Turns out the Diehard movie is easily ripped with DVD Decrypter and the source then works well with RB and other encoders and transcoding programs. It was so simple I overlooked it for a while. One of the biggest movies of the season and it turns out the old DVD Decrypter could rip it. LOL
