spidey 3 worked but shrek 3 errored out during burning. it's weird b/c there were no errors during analysis/decryption/shrink - it was probably at 90% and then just said burn/write error. :(
guess i'll try dvdfab for the first time and see what that does (or should i just use ripit4me. hmm.

@uncdwm
Since you got to the burn phase probably not a copy protection.
What burning program are you using - some have logs that you can post - helpful in figuring out whats going on.
@PacMan
Yeah AnyDVD and CloneDVD handled this one day 1 of US release - I did full backup sans like the making of and maybe 1 or 2 other special features - which I usually uncheck on all movies.

I might be wrong, but I believe the newer versions of DVDFab (free version included) now have an information window much like AnyDVD so that one can see what forms of protection are on a DVD. I'm almost positive DVDFab 4 has it at least.

You answered my next quesiton and binkie supplied the answer to the next. LOL I was wondering about Full DVD with AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2. I tried using AnyDVD with Shrink and I got an error. At that point I decided to use the old method that often works with structural problems. I guess we all got our backups the way we wanted them. This being a Shrink thread, it's nice to be able to say Shrink can still be used in the mix. After the source files are cleaned, Shrink can still transcode and set up the burn.

Shrink can do about anything; and sometimes without the need for AnyDVD or other help. Something that Recode can't claim.
@Pacy Did you try AnyDVD with Recode? :)

To be honest I don't remember if I tried it or not. I'd burned a RipIt4Me version and used AnyDVD + DVDD + FixVTS to process files for use in RB/CCE. That came out perfect. I was getting a bit tired of Rat. Usually though, when a problem crops up with Shrink, it'll be seen in Recode as well.

Most of the top software has caught up to Rat. Doing a movie only copy was easy from the first. There was enough structural protection to cause problems when doing Full DVD. Processing with that in mind took care of those problems and DVDFab HD Decrypter has undergone about 2 updates (not counting betas) since the movie was released. Most problems are coming from incorrect use of software, software not being updated, and/or trying to use some programs that can't get the job done. RAT is old news and those not getting it done haven't been paying attention.

alright, so it was structural protection... for the record I am still going strong with anydvd 6.1.7.0 and did this one with ease. I was shocked actually.

Amen Pacman
If you can't do the "Rat" by now you're not paying attention or your pc is corrupted or programs are outdated. If you can't do the "movie only" you simply can't read or are too lazy to read the above thread.

AnyDVD is up to 6.1.9.3. I always update for the newest copy protections. I usually get around to buying the DVDs the updates are intended for. Binkie said AnyDVD worked with CloneDVD2 for a custom DVD. There was apparently no problems with movie only. But Shrink and AnyDVD wouldn't do the job with the region 1 release. As I mentioned before, it was just a matter of using the right combination of software in the right way.

I am quite confused. I came upon this thread by accident and was unaware that there was any problem backing up Ratatouille. I used RipIt4Me and it worked perfectly. Then used Nero to burn to dual layer media.

at this point the best suggestion i have regarding rat is that after all we have posted here and you're still having issues, just go ahead and buy the movie. maybe you could get it at a discount from 1 of the big boy video stores like block buster.
ocd is not a bad thing when you're learning something and rigorously pursue it until you have it down pact, but when it turns to spinning your wheels it's not such a good thing.

I must admit I made an error when I stated that I did RAT with 6.1.7.0 of anydvd. I in fact used dvdfab HD decrypter on this one.

No reason to be confused. There's structural protection that prevented some software from correctly processing the DVD files, sometimes only not in Full DVD. Some people had problems, some didn't. That's the usual state of affairs. Anyone reading over this thread can easily see where the problems lie with RAT and how to do a perfect backup. Since DVDFab HD Decrypter does the job of bypassing decryption and copy prtection, and the software is free, there's no reason anyone shouldn't get the backup done.
