I wasn't really concentrating enough, am doing loads of other things at once instead of just reading the thread :)
..i wasn't commenting in respect of speed comparisons, i was just trying to comment on the multiple threaded-ness/multiple core abilities of CCE.

LOL
Thanks for clearing that up because I am like you doing too many things at once. HC encoder does indeed benefit from a quad core processor. It's amazing how much it's progressed since it was first released. There seems to be so many pointless debates about if this encoder or that encoder is better. The best encoder in my view is the one that you're happiest with.

Yeah i use HC pretty much exclusively now. I find the quality to be more than good enough, even for concert dvd's and quite dark movie discs. Speed-wise it's very good, though i very rarely mess with the quality settings so it's on default settings. (for anyone new reading i'm in the Q6600 club, albeit at stock ie not overclocked)

Well I've been doing some research and testing on the ASUS Striker Extreme and it seems that the problem that I'm having isn't an uncommon one. lol. Sammy and Russ you HUSH!!!! :P
Anyway I've done everything but take out the cpu to make sure it's NOT messed up or any of the "pins" on the mobo are/aren't bent... ;)
Tried:
Singe RAM stick (even bought some DDR2 667 RAM rated at 1.9v...Mushkin btw.. :D)
changed CMOS battery
changed psu's
changed gpu's
cleared CMOS
checked all connections
Any other suggestions?? I'm removing the cpu and checking all that stuff to see what's what later tonight if time allows... ;)

now that's more like it, you can only use so many motherboards at once. But only a couple hundred discs?, i don't get out of bed for less than 600 or 800 at a time :)
yea there should be a law for a guy getting 800 "ultra sexy" TY's at once...lmao
here is a shot of everest right now....it is a little cooler now than the other day when i changed everything out.

Thanks and as it may have turned my way. I visited a local place in town to see if they could answer some questions and it seems that my woes aren't uncommon at all. lol. They were helpful in answering some questions and giving me an anti-static bag to boot.
They said the Striker and Striker II have been having issues with the BIOS chip and NOTHING the consumer/builder could do would fix it. They indicated a NEW BIOS chip or mobo would prolly be the only fix and then proceeded to give me the instructions and website to take care of that business. Of course I don't have a receipt and it's NOT needed they say. hmmmmmm.. we'll see...
So as it looks right now I'm in business for a RMA and maybe a NEW mobo... If so anyone interested in a NIB Striker Extreme??? :P
ALSO a note to add... they also indicated it could be something as simple as a "short" somewhere and gave me the run down on at least checking to see if there is actually a short or not. So driving an extra mile and trying to learn some info may have paid off, well for me at least. :)

That's just wrong on so many levels... hehehe. :P
It was encouraging to have some sort of answer from a "professional" so to say. He said they've worked on at least 6 RMA jobs with the Striker and Striker II. :D
I'll keep you posted and I expect quick and courteous answers from here on out.... :P

I have one.. it's great.. it blows air, glows green and it works.. lol. Only thing is I paid for bloody shipping!!! What kind of crap is that?? :P

edit: ADD....
Well finished the "testing" of sorts. I've come to the conclusion I may have a bad PCI-e 16x slot. I'll put it back together tomorrow and see what happens but it does look like the mobo will be sent off in the next day or two if things don't look up with the "rebuild". :P
pic of testing area
pic of "pins" on mobo #1
pic of "pins" on mobo #2
Please look at those pics and give me your opinion on the possibility of a "bent pin"... I don't see any evidence that indicates as such. :P That's the only factor that I was told would cause a "dismissal" for a repair or replacement. tia....

greensman,
Take your socket pictures straight at the socket, rather than at an angle. It makes it very easy to see pin damage that way, and that's the way Motherboard manufacturers do it to show you damage!

That's the exact 80mm case fan I ran in my PC for a year and a half and now runs in my server. It transmits a reasonable amount of vibrations but is quite subdued, and a very quiet fan in a normal environment. Go for it.
