By the looks of it the two Asus ones are the same monitor, but one has speakers. Since they're free, take them! :)

Oh and Asus are better than Acer. Every time!

Shaffaaf,
Quote:
Id say DDR2 800MHz memory is better, as you wont need mroe than 677mhz tbh, but the extra just for future upgrades :)

and if your not OCing, then you might aswell stay with the normal cooler from intel, as its very quiet and does what it says.

I'm with Mort on this one! Why the love affair with DDR2 800 MHz memory? You can buy 2x1GB Corsair Dominator's for $44 with the MIR. With an E8400 at stock speeds (333 fsb) you can run right at or very near 1066MHz depending on what MB it's on, so I don't agree with choosing 800MHz memory at all! With the 1333MHz fsb of the E8400, your memory bandwidth and throughput will be much better, and it's guaranteed to run at 1066! It's a guranteed 266MHz memory overclock, something you can't guarantee with 800MHz memory!

The Stock Intel coolers are getting cheaper and cheaper, and about all they are good for is setting up the computer at stock speeds, and little else. I wouldn't like depending on one to keep my CPU cool and trouble free. A decent cooler is a must, and the Intel doesn't fit in that catagory!

Respectfully,
theonejrs

i agree with your russ, but seeing as someone else is building it, i am assumeing no OCing will take place, so i am just saying no point when its only gonna run at 667 MHz. (because i ASSUME everything will be left on stock) and because i assumed stock, and no OCing, i said there was no need for another cooler as the intel ones actually run quiet and cool stock perfectly fine.

if there was clocking involved i wouldnt suggest 800MHz for a chip that can do 4GHz, so thats 9x450 (which would need an OC for the 800)

At stock speed with an E8400 the base fsb is 333MHz, which would give you 667MHz at the lowest multiplier on my MB, 2x. At the same speed but using the 3x multiplier, and it's running right at 1000MHz. That's a very useful 200MHz increase in memory speed of 25% over DDR2 800, and if they ever want to overclock, it's there, at little or no cost over the 800MHz. Right now the 1066 Dominators are less than half the price of the 800MHz Dominators. The difference between the performance of the cas 4 800 vs cas 5 1066 is not enough to overcome the speed advantage of the 1066 memory or the wider bandwidth, even underclocked to 1000MHz. If you have a MB capable of setting the memory independent of the FSB, you can be at the stock speed of 3.0GHz with the memory running at 1066MHz! That's a pretty good 33% improvement in memory speed for less money!

Russ

Has anyone ever tried to use the intel warranty before to send in a defective product?
I called them to tell them that my cores are too hot, and it might be defective. Those stubborn jack***es told me that I can only return the processor if ALL the core temperatures were at 71.4C or above ALL THE TIME. They refuse to take it back....

right but not all opf us are situated in rebate land (aka the USA) some are from more expensive lands, with no rebates where getting PC8500 adds antoher £20/?30.

and IF no one is going to mess with the bios, once more then there is NO need to waste the money.

I have sent them a CPU in the past. They were nice about it and the process was painless and fast.

Just tell them your CPU quit working, and that you tested it in a working computer but it wont POST so the CPU is at fault. They will replace it right away :)

A little update on the Striker Extreme mobo saga... lol. I'm doing a RMA!! Something is definitely knackered/jacked/screwed/messed up with this thing.... lol. What's so strange is the mobo worked so well when I initially fired it up and did some testing with it. I even did a conversion with convertXtoDVD and DVD RB Pro when I was testing the cpu and hardware for speed. ;)

NOW the mobo temps are 15*C higher, the LAN is non-funtional (which it didn't work to begin with...enough for an RMA actually), the cores read 10*C higher and I didn't change a thing. LOL. With out spending any more time with the Striker the only recourse is a RMA in my mind. ;)

So off to the wonderful world of ASUS.... :D wish me luck.... ;)

....gm

@Spammer,
Sorry buddy.. doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to post any benchies for you with the Striker. ;) btw if they send it back to me with all new hardware and box... it's going on eBay or to one of you lucky lot!! :P I'm getting a frikkin DFI!!!

You're right, and make a valid point! I didn't consider that there's a difference between Sales Tax here and VAT over there! I didn't know there's no rebates there! Is that a law or something as Corsair's is a rebate direct through Corsair?

It is illegal, and personally, I'm all for that. We already have enough companies investing our money on the stock market when we pay in cheques.

For reference, at 1:1 pricing, imagine a product (RAM for example) that costs $60 with $20 rebates to get it to $40. However, if your state has for example a 5% sales tax, you might pay $43, or £21.84.
In this country, there are no rebates, so $60, then take the exchange rate to make £30.48, add 17.5% VAT to get £35.81. Then consider that you will get delivery for three or four dollars on an item that small (if it isn't free). You're looking at £24 worth, tops. In the UK, delivery is typically around £5 minimum, so we end up paying £41 - we do get it next day though.

The price of the actual item has been left the same, but look - we're paying 60% more.

Russ another words is what your saying there cpu would cost them a arm in and leg over there just because of there taxes..sales tax in Ohio is 6% on a $1..rebates should be given on parts that offer them right? no matter where you live.the companies give money so you will come back to buy that's how they make there money..

I'm sure, that if they are illegal. Distributors have found a way around that, with some sort of incentive. Discounts or credits, etc. etc.

hello guyz,
well im a noob to computer component, and i got new idea about compatibility.
well i basically need a computer that delivers as good perfomance as it can in the budget of around 1700 US$ ...
i configured a computer at cyberpowerpc.com ... and i posted the specs in another thread here, but i got the response that they were poor and unreliable. so im back to ground zero here.

my major problem is that i live in paksitan, and no site delivers the stuff here, so my uncle is gonna carry out the transaction and send the computer to me, or the components if i cant manage to get a pre-assembled pc, so i have only one go at this.

now i need help with getting the best things here. i want the computer to run crysis and all the top rated games on the best quality, and i want the computer to have good specifications, that i can show off (if i cant find a better way to put it) =P

any kind of help will be appreciated.

Thank you
Salman

*apologies if i posted this incorrectly, or int he wrong place. =)*
