LOL! Best picture ever...
Keith: Wholeheartedly agreed. They're just dull. I'd easily take Wii Sports, Table Tennis or PGA Tour golf over a football game.

Hey Krj, that WAS funny - "Do you like video games - buy a PC." Or, ...... "no you don't, and you don't have friends, buy a ps3."
Shaff, owning a PS3, didn't find that amusing.
On another note - those mosaics are interesting, Kevin - you say that each "pixel" is made up of a satellite image?? Hmmmm.
And on a final note - forget what I said about L4D being able to be played on my dell 610 laptop which outperforms my p4 playing movie trailers. Does anybody remember Max Payne bullet time - well cut that in half - I would guess 3 fps. But the opening video played perfect - and was frightening as hell as per usual. So I'll leave it installed for a bit just to play the opening video for random unsuspecting innocents. Hahaha
Originally posted by what the hell was rich thinking?: I thought it might run because, as I say, my laptop will play videos better than my PC - but that's because of the nimble processor. My guess is that L4D, being a proper PC game unlike the poor port of GTA4, fully loads up the graphics card where my laptop - obviously by the results - is very weak. No worries, it was just a random after-thought anyway, hahaha! I never bought the laptop for gaming. Notice that on Krj's pic it didn't say "Buy a gaming laptop" lol.
Kevin, you don't have to go to the store - L4d is $39.99 on steam - just pay for it and they'll download all 5 gigs.

LOL! Too late. I bought it at walmart today for 29.99 :) I had to pick up some stuff anyway.
Yes, one or more of the pictures utilized space imagery for the Tiles. Unfortunately, when compressed/downsized multiple times, the tiles are not very forgiving. Depending on pixel width allowed for the tiles. Im enjoying it a great deal though. And im playing with more settings now too.

Well...your probably gonna laugh, but I can't seem to configure the controller, or the keyboard for that matter, to allow the guy to TURN right and left. So far, the mouse is the only way he'll turn! Strafing is doable, but I cant seem to configure Turning! Im sorry, but Im very spoiled to a controller. I will however attempt the keyboard/mouse.

Wow! Pretty short lived game(Left 4 Dead). I beat it in 2:47 Minutes! OBVIOUSLY designed more with multi-player in mind. I think I should give it another run through though, before I take on more skilled people online LOL :D
It had me laughing a great deal. Call me Sadistic, but seeing someone in distress, or hearing unearthly creature screams, make me laugh hard! LOL
Let me clarify. The way Bill, shouted for "help", I Couldn't help but smile and laugh. And the idea, that im a helpless old man LOL!
Has anyone completed ALL achievements? The only one ive completed so far, is the "Brain Salad."
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

It's because, basically, he bought the PS3 for one game, much the same as I probably will when the one game I want that's PS3 exclusive comes out. First and foremost though, I want to get myself a Wii. I know it's £180 for an overclocked Gamecube, but that's irrelevant, on the merits of what it can do, it's almot worth it's asking price (not quite, I'd say £120-£130 is more reasonable)
Rich: The opening movie isn't game-rendered, it's a 720p film clip rendered using DivX or similar I believe.
Omega: You completed all four campaigns in 2 hours 47 minutes? That's pretty impressive, but trust me, turn the difficulty above easy, it'll take you a lot longer as you can't just blast through it without a care in the world.
There is no need for PC FPS games to have control stick support because it's just too much of a skill gap. Any idiot with a keyboard & mouse can flatten a joypad veteran. Either use Xpadder, or learn to play PC games properly :P
I have about 50 of the achievements. I don't expect it's too hard to guess which ones I haven't got :P

Yeah sams right. I basically bought it for god of war 3. If anyone plays the first 2 they'll understand why! And also I was getting bored for the lack of good footy games on the pc, instead of porting the next gen versions they ported the ps2 version.... And soon after streeet fighter 4 came out :D

I have absolutely no objection with someone owning a current gen console, there are a lot of things they can do that PCs can't. However, on merits alone, there's a hell of lot more (for me) that the 360 has that the PS3 hasn't, than vice versa. For a start, I'm a big Guitar Hero/Rock Band fan, and the PS3 version of those games is a pain in the backside from start to finish.

I heard of complaints about the fluidity of the DLC system, but by far the worst offence is the fact that none of the games and instruments from titles work with each other. You need equipment A for game A, and vice versa for game B. With the 360 you can use anything you like, which just as well considering how often the stuff breaks. Additionally most of the games are Xbox 360 exclusive in europe for several months after release.

Kevin - go back and read my post about finger positions. Go down to the bottom of the post, the small letters - written just for you! (Follow the link - it's back two pages, page 132, 15. May 2009 @ 21:17.) It's the bottom section of the ungodly long post, with the small letters, titled "Originally posted by Rich's tutorial on the "F-You" finger position!"
You don't use controls for turning - today's PC games (for the last 7 or 8 years) use something called free mouse look - your mouse is your head turning, and w then goes forward in that direction. For movement, you use only WASD, and point your mouse where you want to go.
Originally posted by sam: Rich: The opening movie isn't game-rendered, it's a 720p film clip rendered using DivX or similar I believe.
Good point! I figured as much. The laptop is brilliant at divx and similar - outperforming my p4!! It does have 128mb on the graphics card so I was curious - but the laptop video card obviously can't begin to compare to a 3850, lol, 3 fps versus 30+.
By the way, Kevin, congrats on saving $10 on the game, mofo!! Ah hah, the truth comes out - just one campaign in under 3 hours. But you WERE playing normal, not easy as we thought, so good for you. Yeah go play the other three campaigns - then you'll be ready for online.
Then find an hour to go through the Developer's Commentary where you'll be ahead of 95% of the other players in understanding what went into making the game. You'll come upon my mate Miles Estes, the guy who animated the whole game as well as modeled Francis and Zoey, at the first machine gun post (generator room No Mercy - the campaign you just did.) He gives one more commentary later.
Then one day, for more practice Single Player with the bots, do all the campaigns on Advanced! Much harder! I finally beat No Mercy with the bots on Advanced - holding out next to the ammo - using an smg instead of the assault rifle.
Originally posted by Rich beating No Mercy Single Player on Advanced - everybody escaped!: I played just the finale chapter of No Mercy on Single Player Advanced for about 5 or 6 hours - I escaped just once by myself - then I switched to Uzi and defended near the ammo - and we all escaped! LOL! (Sam said it couldn't be done with the bots, lol. But maybe I just got lucky, not as many smokers or hunters around perhaps. I'll have to try again one day to prove it wasn't just a fluke.)
By the way guys, I have talked with Sam about this, after trying auto shotgun versus my normal assault rifle, I switched to smg just to see how it would work, and it offers excellent close-range "crowd control" on horde attacks, decent mid-range accuracy, and surprisingly, from my experience at surviving the Advanced finale of No Mercy and escaping with all my bots, it seems to bring down the damn Advanced tank as well, (Sam thinks 10,000 health versus Normal tank at 6000 health) perhaps coming close to the effectiveness of the auto shottie.
Originally posted by Rich explaining Uzi versus P90: Blame Sam for this part of the post. I kept calling the smg a P90, just for the fun of it, because I doubted that any other smg has a 50 round clip. I had suspected that Valve was just taking creative license using a regular looking smg that had the clip size of a p90. But Sam, being very precise, not sloppy like myself, lol, told me I had to stop calling it a p90, and instead call it by its proper name, SMG. Yes Sir Captain! But after my research, I am now going to call it by its very proper and correct smg name: Uzi! LOL!
The L4D smg is an Uzi with a 50 round clip, invented by an Israeli captain named Uziel Gal around 1950. (I googled it - standard uzi came with 24 round clip, or max clip of 32 rounds, but later they added a 50 round clip - probably after the p90 was invented!) The Uzi is cheap to make, requiring no forging, just stamped metal. The expensive p90 is better for prone with the clip along the top. The Uzi, especially with that longer 50-round clip which sticks down from the handle, is a little clumsy for prone - you can't bring the weapon all the way down because of the long clip extending below the handle. That's not a factor in Left 4 Dead, nor for COD4, of course - no laying down prone! Day of Defeat, with prone, uses a Thompson smg. I don?t' know if that was a pain for the soldiers or not - the Thompson being more of an attack weapon for the sergeants. The BAR, very powerful but only 20 round Browning Automatic Rifle, is a bitch to handle with giant recoil, unless you are in prone. The earlier version of Day of Defeat had tripod legs that extended out from the front of the BAR. Anyway, I imagine that for Left 4 Dead, Valve just felt that the Uzi is a better-looking smg than the somewhat ugly P90 hahaha. (But I love that goddamn ugly P90!! You Far Cry players will remember how great the P90 was in that game. The Far Cry Colt - assault rifle - however gave you nearly sniper like accuracy in single-bullet mode. The 30 round assault rifle, by the way, which I call a Colt - I forget why - is the M16 Army rifle developed for the Vietnam War. Maybe Colt is the manufacturer. (Yeah - google - Colt bought the rights to make the gun from the original designer.) It fires a very small round the size of a 22, but with a huge amount of powder behind it, at a VERY fast velocity! That gun is the standard anti-terrorist rifle in Counter Strike, and it was featured in the earlier chapters of Far Cry.)
The Uzi gives you 500 rounds of ammo, versus 300 for the assault rifle. It fires VERY fast, which is good for zombie killing. It reloads VERY fast, which is also very good of course - that's the one thing I didn't like about the auto shottie.
So for the next while, I'm using the Uzi that you get at the beginning of the game, and sticking with it! LOL!
Originally posted by Keith reminding me of something: Keith, that was funny! You took Kevin's presumptuous and gave us the Brit version! Not bad. But you raised a very interesting point for me - I'm trying to seriously learn Spanish and become fluent - very challenging. I just sold a house for a lady from Peru who speaks NO English - I got a lot of practice in many conversations with her. I watch 2 hours of Spanish tv each night and I am beginning to get 50% of the dialog - sometimes more. But a dude told me recently that I should start reading more - reading anything - with a dictionary in hand. He said I would dramatically expand my vocabulary. Your comment about Omega's "presumptuous" proves that dude's point lol.

The Assault rifle has 410 ammo versus 500 but does a lot more damage. Downside is you walk slower holding it.

I must have somehow overlooked the flashlight part somewhere. I didnt realize that THATS whats been startling the witch! LOL! Learn something new everyday eh LOL. THANK YOU

Mouse and keyboard will always be better for PC games. Only console ports and driving games really work well with a game pad. In console shooters, you usually have some degree of aim-assist on. In PC shooters aim-assist is mostly non-existent. You will aim more precisely, react quicker, and conserve more ammo using a keyboard and mouse.
I honestly can't stand 90% of shooters on a gamepad.

Yah... im totally ok with the mouse and keyboard now. Though my mouse is gonna be a battery HOG, playing games LOL! It ran out while playing last night LOL! No biggie. I have rechargeable batteries that I use for it. My keyboard is pushing 3 months, where my mouse usually lasts a week, due to the laser no doubt. In fact, I have 2 sets of rechargeables, so im never down ;)
Eventually, I wouldnt mind those mice that can dock, and charge via usb power :D

LOL Cordless mice are another minor taboo for gamers. They never seem to be as snappy and responsive as corded mice. I myself abhor any mouse that needs charging. Deathmatch doesn't pause for a charge or battery swap :)
Hey Rich, Sam, everyone... I'll be on Steam tomorrow and ready to play as soon as I wake up. Everyone polish your cases, clean your mice, and dust your heatsinks. We're gonna party it up :)

Really? My mouse has been snappy since day one. Ive had this particular mouse for almost 4 years. Perhaps they dont make um like they used to :P These batteries are kind of old. When I first started using um, they would last closer to 4 weeks. But im a much more avid user now LOL! Anyhow, it doesn't take long to switch um out in a hurry. Probably between 10 and 20 seconds.
