Just got a Nokia Dbox2 from Germany. I've flashed it with The Don's image, loaded a local services and bouquets file and didn't even need to scan for channels, all there and working. Super!!!

You have to use an FTP client, browse to the /var/tuxbox/config/zapit folder and copy the files from there. The username/password is root/dbox or root/dbox2.

My mate, where the box works, is on Telewest wheras I'm on NTL. Does anybody know if the sportster 1.73+ image works with NTL or does it only work with Telewest?
Any other suggestions from anybody would be most welcome as I'm running out of ideas. The only one I've got left is the booster option but as I've directly linked the incoming CATV feed to the DBOX I can't see that working now - unless directly linking it will necer work for some reason I'm unaware of?

I can tell you all that it would appear that this image only works with Telewest. I've tried in a TW area and it picks up over 300 channels, however, I've now tried 3 different addresses around staffordshire that have NTL and get the same result every time - no channels found.
I'll continue to experiment and hopefully find an image that works with NTL. In the meantime, if anybody knows of one that I could try, please let me know the name and where I might get it...or PM me with it if you have it.

Well, things appear to be going from bad to worse. I've tried a booster, I've tried reflashing a new image (commando6) and still I found no channels. Now whatever I do to try a scan I get "transponder scan failed" and I've noticed that my signal strength doesn't change whether I have the co-ax cable connected or not. I think I'm asking a dumb question here but has anybody experienced anything like this before or have I, more than likely, broken the tuner?

Check the cable incase the centre is broken and not passing the signal and check the inner part of the tuner on the back of your DBox and look to see if the metal centre connection isn't prised apart too much causing loss of signal also. You can fix the former by putting a new F plug on the cable and the latter by using a pin to narrow the gap on the tuner connection to ensure it grips the cable when you screw it on. Hope this helps, as it used to happen a lot on satellite receivers when I used to repair them.
If the tuner is broken you can get a new one here:

Fekker - thanks for the info, that worked a treat.
The bad news now is that I've downloaded a duff image and have "kein system"...something I've noticed other people have come across in this forum. Has anybody got any notes / documentation on how I recover from this sorry state?

You should be able to recover using IFA
· Turn off DBOX
· Start Application
· Choose Drive where you have the Image you want to flash
· Choose the right network Card where the DBOX is connected to
· Choose if you have a nullmodem Cable and what Com Port
· Click Start
· On Windows XP SP2 you now need to click unblock on the firewall Popup
· PLEASE IGNORE ANY MINIMIZED WINDOWS AND ESPECIALLY
"pinging failed" !!!!!
· Power your Box up and the Software does the Rest
· Display will say Flashing whilst Software is transfered and then Flashing
Done after about 2 1/2 Minutes or about 10 minutes on a Sagem 1x Dbox.
Sometimes the display will still say FLASHING, sometimes you will see 2 bars moving across the screen. Don't worry if it doesn't tell you it's finished, after 5 minutes unplug and reboot. Also I'm sure the Commando 6 image you are using is a 2X image and not a 1X image ;-).

Fekker - you're full of good advice, much appreciated.
Got half way through using IFA nd got the following message (wasn't using a null modem cable).
"The UDP-Port 67 and 68 is alrady in use by internetconnection sharing (synchost.exe) To continue you must disable etc....."
Any idea what I have to do...is it the DBOX I must disconnect from TV or anything...from looking on the net it sounds like a LINUX message?

I've had this message before, too. Unplug the Dbox2 from the mains and plug it back in again. If this fails, restart the PC.

Make sure you have disabled all network cards except the one connected to the DBox, disconnect any other peripherals like XBox so not to confuse the IFA programme. Reboot PC and it should work.

UDP 68 and 69 and used by DHCP - are you running ICS on your computer, if you are then disable it - as I suspect this is the problem.

I had the same error last week and I am not using ICS so I think IFA uses this error when it cannot access the network card. DHCP at this stage shouldn't stop IFA flashing the box. You might also like to try the advice below from Fergalsworld.

You really need to get a nullmodem cable and your worries will go away
but until you do try this.
Check you have done all this
Go to control panel then network connections
right click on local area connect and pick properties.
there you will see underneath connect using....your network card
next to this will be a configure tab click on it.
then click on the advanced tab
you need to look for flow control, duplex, media type or connection type
drop the value tab arrow down and set to 10baseT_halfduplex or try automatic or autosense
Then
1.Install IFA in to C:/ check that IFA has been Added to the exceptions in windows firewall, then turn the firewall off,
2.Disable ALL antivirus programs...If you have any Norton crapware disable worm blocking aswell
you might even have to unistall it this includes systemworks aswell
there is a removal tool in the downloads to get rid of anything norton leaves behind
3.Disable any popup stoppers.
4.Give your pc network card a static ip.
IE:PC ip:192.168.1.201 (not needed with ifa but set to this anyway)
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
5.Disable any other network cards you have installed including wireless
6.Disable ics (internet card sharing if available)
7.Ethernet crossover cable connected
8.Nullmodem cable connected if you have one
9.Turn off box,
10.Put Image in C:/ and rename it to mtd3.img
11.Start IFA
12.Select networkcard
13.Tick nullmodem if you have one
14.Select image in C:/
15.Press ok, if it goes to a comm window turn on the box.
16.If you dont get flashing in the lcd on the box try holding the power and up button in till the lcd goes blank
then let go wait about 10 seconds
keep trying a few times.
Nullmodem cable required to do the following.
hold power and up button in till lcd goes blank then let go of power button then up button 2 seconds later
it will go through 3 tests in com window then stop at
dbox ppcboot> type in "boot net" then press enter
if it does not start to flash
then something is still blocking the network.
Hope this helps.
