Thanks for the quick response, I have an old fat SCPH-39xxx (v7... or v8) model and I am using a slide tool.
Where precisely is this rear sensor you are talking about? And how would I go about adjusting it?

LOL you just shot me down in two ways....you have a fat ps2 and are using a slide tool. Im not questioning you, but since you had probs before the cleaining and now have more, are you using the slide tool correctly? Here is a link just in case you want to confirm you are using it correctly. http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm
After talking to a ps2 heavyweight, he suggested this.
Quote: make sure he uses the slide card to seal the tray on the final swap, not by pushing it in all the way by hand. Could be his laser going or needing a voltage bump too
That is from an extremely reliable source *cough Tokijin, hope it helps!

I am pretty sure I am using the slide tool correctly considering that before my backups at least played. Now the same backups will not load at all.
Instead of loading nicely like they used to, they make a loud spinning noise and then the magic swap screen gives me an invalid ps2 disk message.
From what I understand playing with the voltage can be very risky and I would rather do that as a last resort.
I remember when I was cleaning the lens I pushed it down a little bit on accident but it kind of just bounced back up so I disregarded it at the time.
Should I start playing with that white cog thing to see if I can adjust it to read the backups?

The only thing that was disconcerting to me is the fact that you said it took multiple attempts before cleaning the laser to make the backup work. The only two resolutions to this is that you are not using the slide tool correcty (i despise the slide tool, it wears down the motor in the tray considerably and overall isnt reliable) or your laser is sh!tting out on you.
Unless you do some research, I wouldnt attempt to play with the voltage. In my honest opinion, I would either throw down a few bucks for a flip top and see if that makes a difference, or gather some funds and send your ps2 to a reputible modder such as davbere or Evan from teammodders.com and let them work their magic. You are using the best media available, you seem to know what you are doing, so it seems that your laser is aging. I would try a flip top, and then after send it to teammodders and get a chip professionaly installed. The investment is very much justified.

The multiple attempts I was referring to was the loading of the swap magic DVD loader.
Before (and after) I cleaned my lens when I put the DVD loader in the ps2 it would sometimes give me a disk read error. Prior to the lens cleaning all of the backups would load fine when it got to that magic swap screen.
I suppose I will go get a fliptop and see how that works out. Thanks for the advice.

That is a good decision, a flip top will not harm your ps2 like the slide card. I hope it works out for you Phonez, i understand how much it sucks a$$ to throw down cash to make things work. Please do post how things turn out, I very much hope things work out with the minor modifications!

Hell yeah it does! If you have a fat ps2, it kills the tray motor! Yeah it is cheap, but is it really worth it? I dont think so!

Not neccesarily. When My laser died it would still play official games but it would refuse to play imports. Also it had a hell of a time playing DvD Movies. I got my laser fixed at teammodders and all problems were resolved. So yea lemme know how your Ps2 does with Dvd movies.

well shiet im back guys been on work for about 3 months exhausting... lol.... enough about me... I still have the studdering problem when i burn... Now im getting pissed. I dont think its the media since i have had several games playing perfectly and just as many the were the sound is choppy, so i dont think it is the lens.
ANYONE ANY IDEAS HOW THO FIX THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
Since i have FFXII i really want to try it out but you cant play that game with skipping.
I have the imagefile. I dont have a que or bin.

Thank you for this threat, it is great. I just did a back up of NBA07 live, Winning eleven 10 and Kill zone and they play fantastic with swap magic. I have to said that I burned kill zone first using memorex 8x at 4x(Ritek-R03-02) and it is was a pain to load it, then I burn it with verbatim 16X at 8x (id: MCC-004-00) and is playing wonderful.
Thank you

Hi to all i seem to have a problem, either related to vista or else it might be something in the ISO i downloaded, i burnt it using Alcohol which told me the process was successful no errors there. But when i load the game on my PS2 the screen remains black and the game does not load, i usually burn iso images when i had XP and never had any problems, could it be the ISO image or the burning process that has something?? Iam using ATI DVD-R 8X and i burn them at 4X, the ISO is 4.36 GB in size, however i have just burnt another ISO which is around 1.36 GB in size and i managed to play it without any problems.
Thanks for any help i appreciate it!!!

There's two solutions I think you should try.
One of them being, the media you are using. I know you may have burned previous games which may have been successful but not all games will be as successful. I would recommend you try some legit Verbatim DVD-R and burn at half the maximum speed.
Another reason may be the TOC size. Have you tried rebuilding the game?

It's not that great, but it's not the worst. If they don't work, then I'd reccomend some Verbatim.

not that what i'm really worry about.
say they work... do i have to worry about any damage?
Namely that laser eye inside the ps2... or whatever it is called. ?

All media is going to damage the laser, regardless. You have two extremes, Taiyo/Verbatim - Memoerex. TDK is somewhere inbetween that, not the worst media (cough CMC Mag), but not the same high quality dye as Taiyo or Verb.

The problem was seeting the infinity chip to NTSC mode instead of PAL in boot up should have that on you guide as well since we are talking about studdering and skipping and many had this problem maybe if youd written it on your guide i woudlnt have to wait almost 2 months be4 accidentially stumbling upon it. ;) thanks for your help. Great as always.

Say, is memorex DVD-R a good media? Because i usually use TDK but since I changed to memorex my games started to get worn out in bout 5 to 7 hours of gameplay, mean, at start they play very well but after some hours of use the get slow loading times, skipping sound etc... Is it the media?

Memorex = worst media ever created. Not even worth sitting my soda on. OK when used as a frisbe though.
