I couldnt find any so I got sony DVD-R and cleaned the lens with rubbing alcohol, both of them, removed the black lens cover that is snapped in. Gently lift the top lens to get to the lens under the top lens and clean also.
I did that and now it plays flawlessly!

Hey guys new to this forum so please bear with me, i did some searching on my prob, but so far i found no cases similar to mines (didn't search thouroughly :P)
Using: Fujifilm DVD+R
Burn at: 4x
Use Swap discs
Burn isos with: DVD Decrypter
Burner : SONY DRU-820A
Problem: Everytime i backup ps2 games and play it, it takes soo much time to load,it skips and you can hear the dvd or laser (I presume) making weird sounds (it's probably stuttering) sometimes it won't load at all...
But! <---
When i backup the same games with (Fujifilm DVD+R same ones) at my friend place (He uses DVD Decrypter)It works fine on his PS2 (He uses SWAP) and what's more weird is when i play the games on my PS2 they WORK! No skipping no lagging nothing! it's pretty weird.
I need to know what's wrong ,it shouldn't be my ps2 because it can read games fine as stated above, this problem persisted after i changed the burner from LG to Sony... Am i the only one to have this problem?
I'd Appreciate some help

I got God of War 2 and burnt using Verbating DL+R with ImgBurn. I burnt at 2.4x but ImgBurn shown 2 others speeds to burn(4x, 6x). GoW2 starts normally but the game movies are slow/lag. What's the problem?

Get rid of the Fujifilm! Sounds like it has either worn down your laser, or the laser may need a clean or re-align. Ditch the fujifilm and get some Verbatim DVD-R!

Do any other DL backups skip or lag?

I burned the games with fujifilm at my friend's place and when i play them on my ps2 it works fine, so it CAN'T be my ps2 =/

Try using different blank media, like DVD-R. That was my problem when I first started.

Seems to be your burner then. Go to the manufacturer website and see about new firmware. I'd go back to the LG though, they make excellent drives. And as for the fujufilm, I'd get rid of them before they burnt out your laser, they really are terrible quality discs.

What version of PS2 do you have? It seems that it doesn't like DL media. What's the media code of the discs? Open something like DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn, insert the disc, look on the right hand panel and paste the information in.

The media seems to be authentic, it's not fake..
My guess is that your PS2 laser may need a clean. Can you test the games on another PS2?

I just recently bought Swap Magic v3.6 and used it for the first to play my backup ps2 games. I went out and bought Fugifilm 16x DVD-Rs (mainly because they were on sale) and then realized that they are horrible lol. My Silent Hill 3 took FOREVER to load. I know that Verbatim 8x DVD-Rs are better than the 16x but I have to get the 16x since the store that I am going to only has those. I just wanted to know what the best speed is to burn on the 16x discs. 8x or 4x? And should I use DVD Decrypter or Nero? Is one better than the other?

Hey Mik3h!
Thanks for your guide. I was about to make a mistake but since you seem to be an expert on media types i just want to ask you 3 questions before i make a buy.
1. I want to buy verbatim discs from this site
http://www.medieshoppen.dk/shop/default.asp?SetLng=11
check out the DVD-R and the verbatim and the code and tell me if they are ok/good for ps2 burning?
Otherwise theses are the facts.
100 St DVD-R 4.7 GB Verbatim 16xSpeed i cakebox
Media code/Mfr ID : MCC 03RG20 (are they ok with emdia code and all? seemed very important.)
(and can you use fujifilm DVD+R i have about 25 pieces of those also)
2. I want also to backup ps1 games and since that is the case i need to buy quality cd´s. Is verbatim again ok in cd department also?
DataLife Extra Protection 52xSpeed
or
DataLifePlus Crystal Super AZO 52xSpeed
(i read somewhere the crystal line is not so good?)
3. I have these tuff disc 100 pieces. I dont know if u heard of them they are also on the site could you please check them out and tell me if they are ok for ps2 or not. (then i dont have to order 100 new dvd:s but probably they suck since ps2 lens is sensetive right!? lol)
Thx for your help and time it will be much appreciated, since i already spend big $ on previous dvd i want to be sure this time.

Those DVDs as long as the meda code is MCC, seem to be good enough.
I don't reccomend that you use fujifilm though, nor do I recommend that you use tuffdisc, these media brands are notorious for bad burns, which will probably ruin your laser due to the amount of stress it is undergoing whilst trying to read data from the poor quality dye.
As for the PSX games, provided you have a modchip or something (bearing in mind Swap Magic cannot boot PSX games) or some other trick to booting up PSX backups, then the Verbatim CD-Rs should be good enough.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you, shout back if it doesn't.

Exactly my fears i rather spend another 50$ on new good quality dvd rather than paying another 120$ for chipping my ps2 again because of bad dvd´s, no way (h)jose...
Thx for your reply, now i am sure since a pro approved ;)
Just one thing, you may want to make youre guide a a little bit more "friendly 4 dummies", its a great guide but most (me ^-^) maybe dont get the media code and how to check up on it maybe more thorough (dont know how haha), yes i am a little dumb but anyways, nonetheless thx 4 support man. ;)
P.s. i must be honest i am 24 years im ok with computers but i never did do a single burning until a year ago. BIG LOL

Hi y'all
Really helful thread!
However, I have a problem! I have DL FFVII - Dirge of Cerberus. I have burnt it to some alright media (not the best) but when attempting to load it with Swap Magic 3.6, DVD Loader 7 and Zoneloader, all I ever get is "Not a Valid PS2 disc".
I have used different burn speeds, different burn programs (Nero, DVD Decrypter, etc), different media, but no joy. All I haven't tried is using top media or rebuilding.
I have successfully burnt other games using the same media so could really do with some help!
Thanks

When you say "I have DL" does that mean - Downloaded or Dual Layer?
If it's dual layer, it won't work. Swap magic cannot (yet) boot Dual Layer backups.
As for the media, you should get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, even if it has worked for some games, that doesn't necessarily mean it will play all games. And in the long run you're gonna burn out the laser much quicker than it should. So I'd get better media, because chances are that's where the problem lies.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike - much appreciated!
As to DL - I meant downloaded - sorry for the confusion. I have the ISO image, but as I said, when I burn it, no joy.
I will try using good media. I have a good Sony DVD-R at home which I have used for a couple of other games, including Bully which had run very badly on my normal media, but ran perfectly when using the Sony DVD-R.
Could bad media really cause this many problems? I note what you say about the laser though, so will definately get some better media in even if I cannot get this DOC to work.
Thanks

Just thought I would report back on progress of using good media....
Unfortunately, still no joy. I have attempted to rebuild the iso following the really good guide found at the beginning of the forum. When I try to load with Swap Loader, nothing happens at all - just stays on a black screen (no longer do I get "Not a valid PS2 disc" anymore!).
I have then used a combination of Swap Loader-Zoneloader-Game Disc, and this then produces a red screen and nothing else happens.
I have a PAL PS2 but the iso is from an NTSC game but I do not believe this makes any difference.
Time to call it a day with this one I think!

Very strange, is there any other PS2 you can try it on? Like a friend's? It may well be that it's just a corrupted download. Try and test on another PS2.

hi Mike
Unfortunately I have no other PS2's to try this on. Think I will have to put it down to a dodgy download, as have seen that this game should work on PS2 with Swap Magic.
Thanks for your help - am pleased to say that I now have proper media on order!
Cheers

This is so weird, I dont know if anyone is experiencing the same problem. Anyways, I have tried burning Nba 2k7 and Uefa Champions League 06/07 numerous times at various speeds, I even tried rebuilding both games and I still get the same picture. All I see is the screen skipping, like I can play the game but the picture keeps on skipping. I have no idea what to do :(
Made like 6 Verbatim coasters already :(
