question. i recently burned the new hokuto no ken game. 2d fighter. but i can't get a perfect burn. the music skips and repeats. alot of my backups are "near" perfect. always something wrong, be it music skipping or a bit longer loading times. i use verbatim -R 16x, DVD Decrypter, and i burn at 1x. is it possible to burn them too slow?? i figured the slower the better. is it the speed im burning at?

Hi there Bobba.
Well it sure sounds like the media you are using, I don't think there would be any problem with the way you are burning it, half the maximum speed is enough. You should get those Verbatim ASAP for the games.
As for the wrong media.. what is the file format? Is it .ISO or BIN/CUE?

I've got a new Pioneer DVR-112D drive, latest PStwo with Swap Magic 3.6 Plus and 8x Verbatim DVD-R media, and I'm still having loading issues in GTA:SA after burning at 4x. I've tried burning at 1x in DVD Decrypter but it defaults to 4x, is there any way to force 1x? I've burned a couple games at 8x using 16x Fujifilm DVD-R media and they seemed to work, so I'm thinking GTA:SA just streams a lot of random junk off the disc and would benefit from a 1x burn.

Ok i found out that refreshing the TOC size makes the disc run way faster. This was tested with Sonic Heroes and a backup of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix+ (Which worked kinda slow)
Refresh TOCs!!!

Hello. First id like to say thanks to everyone on here. These guides have helped me tons. Anyway Ive burned 2 games so far Tales Of The Abyss and .Hack//G.U. both have the same problem. They stutter/skip at cutscenes tho normal gameplay is okay, other than slow load speeds. Now I have some Idea's of what could be wrong ill list them please tell me what you believe is the problem and tell me the best way to fix them, thanks.
Im using Sony16D1 Are these good enough or should I try to find Yudens?
My lens, When I first started trying to burn games (before finding these forums) I burned both of the game I mentioned previously on to cheap HP DVD+R that Combined with my 2 year old ps2 im wondering if I may have damaged the laser?
Another is the burn speed. The max for these disk is 16x I read somewhere on here that on newer DvD burners to burn at 12x for 16x disk. Is this the problem or should I try 4x-8x?
My Dvd writer is a HP DVD Writer 740b. This came default with my comp,is this suitable for burning games? Or should I look into buying a new one?
Thanks again for the help.

Well, I'd recommend that you get some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and try burning it on that. It that gives no success then try it on a different PS2, depending on the results on the other PS2, your laser may need cleaned/replaced. How does it cope with other backups/originals?

Thanks for the reply. And It plays originals fine. I never have to reset multiple times to get games to play or anything. As for other backups im burning some more right now to try. Tho since It was the case with both games I dont believe that was the problem. Im also trying these games at 8x Instead of 12 and 16 which I tried Previously. And if this still doesnt work Ill try Taiyo Yudens tho I dont like ordering stuff off of the Internet. And If all else fails I guess all I can do is get a new laser, Tho I have no Idea where I could buy one or get it installed.

Apart from a few games, all DVD 9 and DVD 5 can be rebuilt.

Well bobba it appears your in the same boat I am. I believe the problem lies in our lasers (Tho you really shouldnt burn at 1x usually half or a little higher than half of what the disk's max is)I have burned at all speeds and used many different types of disk including all 3 that are ranked as top quality. So yes I believe its our Lasers. Try watching a movie on your ps2. When I watch movies it starts doing the same thing it will studder and skip. If you have the same problem then id be 100% sure our lasers got damaged or just got old.

So I got some TYG02 format DVD-R (Yudens) and burned a couple of games at 4x with DVD Decrypter. Game play wise they would play ok, but they would still lag and skip a little bit when a cinema sequence would come up.
So I decided to clean the laser of my ps2 with some alcohol. But now my ps2 refuses to boot up the backups at all...
Before I cleaned the lens magic swap could take a couple try?s for it to work (it would give me a disc read error), and after I cleaned the laser it still gives me disc read errors sometimes.
Funny thing though is that I ran a normal ps2 DVD and it worked flawlessly, loaded by itself and played smoothly.
I figured that I messed up my laser, but why would a normal ps2 game run so well with a broken laser?
Any thoughts guys?

You using a flip top? Seems that one of the sensors isnt being pressed down correctly after cleaning the laser, thus the disk read errors. Used to happen to me when I first started out, just played around with the rear sensor a bit and never have had a disk read error since.
