Are you using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R or DVD+R and are the maxell DVD-R or DVD+R?
Also what are the speed of both discs and what speed are you burning at?

the taiyo's are -r and so are the maxells.
i burned the maxells at 8x because they are 16 x and i burned the taiyo's at 4x because they are 8x.
i tried burning the taiyo's at 8x with madden07 and now it worked well, with a tiny bit of lag.
I updated my firmware to the most current and i defragged my hd as well. is it possible i need to booktype to dvd-rom? i dont know how with my pioneer 111d.

booktyping may help but it's not nesscessary (vb spelling lol) I use Verbatim and I don't need to booktype mine.
I need to rush, but I'll be back later, so I'll leave you with this link - http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php hopefully it will help.
Be back later

thank you for your help mik3h. i read that faq but it seems that i cannot booktype my poineer 111d through any of those things, maybe does not support.
any other help would be greatly appreciated, i have made 10 taiyo coasters so far lol. also the copy of madden 07 that did work i would give it an 8 out of 10 quality playing it but Nero speed gave it a 95 but the pif and pef were nothing like what i have seen on tokijin's faq.
i'm talking about like, 500k errors and 300 failures if i can remember right.(i'm at work) is it the fact that my taiyo's are -r? i dont think so but is possible?
i'm so sad that my taiyo experience isnt living up to the hype so far. i will keep trying and hopefully you will keep assisting? lol thanks. Norman

I followed the step by step process of fixing the disc read error problem, and now it reads PS1 games, Blue PS2 games and only a few of my Silver PS2 games (Tony hawk 3, SXX Tricky, Evil Dead Regeneration, and again the only 2 blue games I have.) Vice city which is brand new wont load at all same with Mortal Kombat Deception ( including the extra special disc). ANy clue???
I also have been using Swap magic for a while and recently bought the Swap Magic 3 plus V 3.6 and the DVD Rom Driver will initialize in the browser window (with memory cards) and it acts like its going to load, but then returns to the the browser. I really am getting frustrated with this issue becuase simply I dont have any CD-rom PS2 games.
Im using Blindwrite to make backups using the disc to disc copy on DVD+R media, my older version of Swap Magic worked great for a long time and then one day quit, so I bought the V 3.6 and cant get the dvd to load. Is there any way to utilize the CD version which works fine. PLEASE HELP
......another day........another hour spent fixing my PS2....

Fheyr - I was gonna suggest you take these discs back, if there were lots of errors being detected, but if Bully is working for you at 8x, then you should try other games at 8x and if they keep working fine, you should just stick to that method (8x burning)
bacillus - How old is your PS2? It may just be that the laser is on it's way out. What media have you been burning games to? What brand and what speed?

Mik3h, so far i have burned madden 07 and bully to the taiyos at 8x and they work very well so far(an hour into each so far) but when i do Nero speed they show sooo many errors(averaging 120 spiking to 160 and failures totaling more than 200) do you think i should send back even thought they are working out?

I just bought swap magic 3 version 3.6 with a slim ps2 flip top. After installing it and trying to play my games, i had very slow load times for all of the games making it near impossible to play. I use fujifilm DVD+R 16x. Can anyone help me with my problem?

bigscott7 - Get rid of those fujifilm DVDs. They are bad quality discs. Get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
Fheyr - Nah, keep them and use the method you've been using and if happen to get any more playing problrms, just take them back.

zeheero - It doesen't sound like the booktype, because even my burner can't booktype either, so don't invest in a new burner yet! :)
What I would do, is check you have legit verbatim discs, so put in the disc, and launch "dvd decrypter" or "Imgburn" which you can download from google, and click mode>iso>write and wait for the panel on the right hand side to load.
Now where it says "media code" I want you to tell me that code. It may be MCC then a few numbers, so what I'd like you to do is give me that code so I can check you have real quality verbatim there.
Now, have you tried any other games that are not import on those discs? Import should not make a difference, the file system is the same. So try backing up an original game to one of those verbatim DVDs.
Thanks, let me know.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike!!! I kinda decided to take out the mod chip (matrix infinity) of my playstation 2. I keep trying to resolder the dang thing again and again but with no luck. Such a pain in the rear. So I decided last week to go with the swapmagic 3.8 instead. By the way, you were totally correct about my burner being good and not needing to be replaced.
Anyways, I try to actually burning my back ups with just the verbatim 16x DVD-R that I had in the start(WHAT A DONKEY I AM) but I kept getting lagging game play and long load times, at this point I wasted 4 DVD-R. I thought that my playstation 2 was at fault, it is like 5 years old now, and playstation do take about 40 sec to a min to start loading the game which I thought it was really weird.
So I went and purchase another playstation 2 at target (I got the slim version 70001 if you want to know). I try using the swapmagic 3.8 and it didn't work. The playstation 2 slim was brand new and it wouldn't work. So at this point, I was really pissed that I wasted 140 U.S dollars for nothing. ANyways, that day, I went back to Best Buy( that place is so dang expensive, Verbatim cost 15 bucks a pop) and bought two DVD-R disk Verbatim 8x, like you said. I burned my back ups with it and it WORKED!!!!!! It played my imports and Back ups. However, a few things puzzle me when burning.
A) I couldn't read what type of coding it had on the DVD-R media ( I did this with DVD Decrypter and imgburn)
B) I burn the DVD-R (Verbatim 8x) with 2 times the speed and it worked well)
c) Why isn't my swapmagic 3.8 working for the playstation 2 slim lite? Is there like two version swapmagic, Like one for fat playstation 2 and playstation slim lite?

Good to hear you got it working!
1. Hmm, strange, try "DVDInfo" < Google it.
2. 16x media provide mixed results with the PS2. 8x media is better, though I would reccomend burning at half the maximum speed on those 8x's.
3. You don't think Sony would let them run Swap Magic that easily would you? :P
Basically, there are two sensors inside the PS2, that when the lid is down, are pushed it, and execute the reading of the disc. If the lid is lifted, the PS2 will re-check the inserted disc after the lid is closed. And will notice that it is not a legit original pressed disc.
So, there are two little switches than need to be taped down inside the slimline PS2.

Thanks for reading my post.
I finally figure out the problem why my playstatio 2 lite won't load the swapmagic. It seem that the swapmagic dvd disk doughtnut hole can't fit the small gear cylinder where you put the disk.. I don't understand why it doesn't fit. Weird.I might have to get another swapmagic disk. I think maybe. Mike, did you heard of anyone having this problem where the swapmagic dvd wouldn't fit into the playstation 2 lite. I know you need the tools to use the swapmagic properly but I just want to load the the swapmagic and see if it work. Anywoans

Sounds very confusing. The size of the disc is the exact same of that of any other disc.
Make sure the disc is pushed all the way down?

It JUST won't fit. I don't want to force swapmagic in if it doesn't want to go in. Anyways, I probably get another swapmagic disk, I need the tools for the playstation slim. I never understood why sony didn't do what pioneer do. They have a little button that let you push on the disk. Therefor you can take it out with ease.

Thanks for letting me know about the links, I will fix them ASAP.
As for the tools, - you can use sellotape. I've done it many times to other peoples PS2s for them. Just tape down the sensors, trust me it's very easy, if a 15year old kid can do it, you can ;)
-Mike
EDIT : Links fixed :)

No worries, here's an excellent guide :

EDIT : Although I'd forget the tissue and just use sellotape, including on the power switch sensor, just use tape on that too, makes life easier, tissue is just annoying and unnesscesary (sp?)

Hi there.
It sounds to me as if it was the media. I'd get some "Verbatim" or "Taiyo Yuden" DVD-R, and burn at half the maximum speed. Good luck.

In your initial post, was MGS in fact a DVD9?? In isobuster layer 0 is under iso and layer 1 is under udf....and it seems you only extracted layer 0 to reduce the size of the MGS iso. Just curious because some random noob is saying he fixed Rogue Galaxy (which is 6.4 gigs) to 3.2...which sounds a bit skethcy. My thoughts is that he just extracted the layer 0...any idea?
