The reduced file size in this case sounds like the same reduction in file size I got when the avisynth screwed up. I don't know precisely were but you might uninstall everything then get all the latest updates then reinstall paying close attention to the guide.

If the encoding starts and the frames don't change and the bit rate stays low like about 1.2 or so then you still have a problem. Let us know.

Thanks for all the reply guys.

Heres what I tried out yet again. Uninstalled everything(CCE Basic,AVI Synth, DVD RB). Installed the following:
(1) Trial Version of 2.69 CCE Basic
(2) Latest Version of AVI Synth 2.5
(3) Latest Version of DVD RB-0.56
(4) Install the eclCCE.EXE file(as per instructions) and then point the CCE path located in DVD-RB's setup dialog to eclCCE.exe

But when I did that, an eclCCE error popped up:

"Unable to find the CCE window. Error 87. Parameter is incorrect"

Any ideas as to what this could be?? I just uninstalled the earlier version of CCE. Do I have to remove anything else from the registry etc??

Thanks in advance!!

CCE basic trial doesn't work with rebuilder.
I'm sorry, I was under the impression you already purchased the program.

To test you will need CCE SP trial. I used 2.50 because I had difficultly with my system and 2.67.
It is in the download section under encoders with the other trials.

Intstall 2.50 trial CCE SP then put eclCCE in a different folder alone then double click on it and point it to CCE SP 2.50.

In rebuilder;
The set the path to 2.50 seperately but point it toward eclCCE instead. It will open 2.50.

In rebuilder;
Go to options, then CCE then, set CCE SP 2.50.

With everything else setup like in the guide this should work.

If you purchase CCE basic you just follow the guide, don't use eclCCE. Thats only for trial CCE SP.

bappida, I think we all were under the impression you had purchased CCE Basic. Most of the problems have occured using these trial versions.

Even if you get CCE SP working you are going to have a watermark on your video.

Guys, I am sorry for the confusion here. Before doling out $60 I wanted to check out the quality of the videos actually.

So far I have been using DVD Shrink and so I wanted to compare the products before buying the software.

I will try out your suggestions once i get back from work. Thanks once again!!

bappida,

I'm not trying to spend your money for ya, but you won't find one RB/CCE user here that doesn't 100% agree that this is the BEST quality for backing up a DVD, period. The only drawback is time constraints, but with the batch method one can get around that to some extent, you go to bed or work, you wake up or get home and you have several movies to burn at 10 minutes or so each. Done.

I went ahead and bought CCE Basic right away to avoid the trial and error plagues of the trial versions. So did others. Again, everyone that has used these trials has had problems as you yourself are finding out. We are not trying to sell you a pig in a poke. No one here is getting paid, you asked and we answered.

I understand the need for trying something out before I buy, It is a good rule to follow, I have been burned in the past becuse I didn't but I might suggest in this instance to trust the forum. I have done 52% compression with RB/CCE and couldn't tell a difference between it and the original(as I have stated many times).

There have been some problems with errors 0003 and 0004, but with some of the guys help here, they have all been resolved. You couldn't ask for better support as you have the author of Rebuilder and the author of the Rebuilder and CCE guides, not to mention other extremely knowledgeable people, a lot of whom use RB/CCE exclusively for all their Backup needs.

Of course, in the end it is what makes you happy, that is the no. 1 objective. As for the money, you are in essence buying the same engine of a 2,000.00 encoder for 58.00, seems like a no brainer to me. :)

Well there is 1 who owns CCE and doesn't agree but he is a DVDshrink affiliate.

CCE SP is fine for testing but with the watermark it is wasted on a marked backup. So if you are actually entertaining the use of CCE then a purchase would make things easier.

Has any one here compared the quality of ripped DVDs using rb+CCE and rb+QuEnc?

I don't believe anyone has, but I'd love to see such a comparison.

I have noticed when they talk about QuEnc, they use CCE as the standard it is measured against, saying that, and I quote, " produces video that compares in some cases with the quality of videos encoded with CCE". That leads me to believe CCE is better, but I would certainly like to know 1st hand.

I was an IC8 fan also with an interest in Shrink. I like to keep the menu and 5.1 sound + DTS if present, but I don't need the extras if they compromise quality. Now, thanks to you guys, I am a DVDRB/CCE convert with absolutely no setup problems thanks to Vurbals guide! I would now appreciate some advice in fine tuning the process. PC specs are XPSP1, Intel 2.4GHz, 512MB Ram. Here is my Rebuilder ini file

[CCEOptions]

Q1. Should I change any of the above settings?
Q2. What is the difference between CCE Basic 2.67 and 2.69?

The difference between 2.67 and 2.69 is that 2.67 doesn't support the Quality_prec setting (it's a static value in that version). Some people have reported having problems with it and gone back to 2.67, but fortunately I haven't had any issues I couldn't trace back to other programs.

As far as your settings go, VBR_bias and VBRpasses aren't user accessible in any version of CCE Basic, so they don't really matter. If you wanted to really push the size of the DVD, you could add this setting in the [Options] section to change the output size:

CCETargetSectors=2256000

Beyond that, there really isn't much to tweak, although I could be forgetting something. If you haven't read the advanced guide you might want to take a look at it.

All!

I just wanted to pass a simple word of thanks onto many of
the folks on this thread. I was a little weary of spending some
cash on some software. While most software is over-
rated and flawed in one way or another, DVD-RB & CCE
Basic is not one of them..

The DVD-RB & CCE combo lives up to its advertisements.
The software is a little slow.

Good deal. As you use DVDrebuilder you will find a lot of flexability in how the picture looks. Combined with DVDremake you can do just about anything.
Like both Schindlers list discs on one dvd and still a good picture.
I just don't like switching discs.

Donald,

I have seen a lot of post's on DVDRemake.
However, I do not know how this product
could help me in making DVD backups. Is this
product hard to use and learn? I know this is
a rookie question, but one does not learn by
being silent.

I've just written a guide which should be up soon. It's basically a walk through of basic operations using the basic version of DRM, although you can set DRM Pro's interface to Simple and use it with the guide. I'll have a more advanced guide done some time. I was going to start with that guide, but it was getting way to big to be useful for a beginner's guide.

Ok, I'm using CCE SP Ver. 2.67.00.27 non-trial version.

I did everything in the tutorial on the front page of afterdaqwn.com and everything went great except my VIDEO_TS folder is 6.44 GB's which won't fit onto a DVD-R.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Escobar22...this has been covered in a couple of posts on this thread already.

In short, there is nothing that can be done with this version right now.

As a huge DVD Shrink fan I decided to have a go at the RB/CCE method to see if it's all it's cracked up to be. (I'm sure it is)
Anyway, followed the guide to the letter and attemted to convert The Two Towers.
Everything went well when I clicked on prepare, but when I clicked on encode I keep getting this message.
C:\TWOTOWERS\D2VAVS\VO1000 10000 1002.avs: unknown type
I don't understand what this means.

It sounds like AviSynth isn't installed. If it's not installed, an AVS file is just another text file.

Hello,
I am new here.

I am using DVDRB v55b. CCE 2.50. I have also been using RB-Opt v0.12.

I have had this problem occur on 2 projects now. I get through adding the IVTC:
10 - Telecide(Order=1,Guide=1,Post=2,vthresh=65)
11 - Decimate(Cycle=5)

in rb-opt. And then process and encode. and when i check the final product, the audio is out of sync with the video. Please help.

thanks alot in advance!

I believe that if you IVTC video that was originally encoded interlaced, there's no way for DVD-RB to keep the audio in sync because it won't add the pulldown flags neccessary and you'll end up with video that's sped up because of this. In other words, if DVD-RB recognizes your source as Progressive (which it should if it was actually encoded that way) it will telecine the video during the Rebuild process so it's read at 29.97fps. On the other hand, if the original had a hard telecine (encoded as 29.97fps interlaced with a telecine pattern) it will assume that all the required frames are there, and during rebuild it won't add pulldown flags.

Since DVD-RB encodes everything at 23.976fps (to keep hybrid sources from being damaged), there's no way for it to tell that your video is supposed to be telecined other than looking at the original. In the case of a hard telecine, it would look at the original and see that it's 29.97fps interlaced. That would cause it to simply change the framerate of the new video to 29.97fps instead of telecining it. As a result, the video would speed up, while the audio would remain the same speed.

This assumes I've understood what jdobbs has said about how DVD-RB works, so if any of it is incorrect he'll hopefully post any corrections.
