Hey guys, if anyone is having trouble ripping God of War to DVD 5 and getting it to play, here is what I did. I booted it up with Swap Magic 3.6 (might have to use special boot if normal boot doesn't work) and played it for 45 minutes last night. Not once did I get a sound or voice hiccup or any delay in load times or cut scenes. So I thought I would let you all know how I accomplished it ( it was very easy).
1. Use DVD Decryptor to burn an image to your hard drive
2. Download the following software and follow instructions:
Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT:
From Anthony 05:
Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.
1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.
Make sure you do it in that order.
3. Burn the new iso image with DVD Decryptor at 4X on good media
4. Put you game in after booting up with Swap Magic and have fun.
This worked for me, as I said above I have only played the game for about 45 minutes so I might encounter promblems later in the game but I thought if this method works it would help some people with making a DVD 9 game fit onto a DVD 5.
I have also done The Guy Game using this method and it has played fine. I sometimes have to use the special boot, so if normal boot doesn't work then try the special boot. Hope this helps!!
Wow I liked that even better when it was part of my FAQ lol.
@ bigpoppa1 If you burned it to DVD-9 or Dual Layer discs, I'm assuming you have a modchip. Swap Magic doesn't support DVD-9 games. If you downloaded the game, it may already have been rebuilt. If you backed up an original and burned it to DL disc, all the video files would still be in the game.
I did copy and paste it from you faq I believe. I wasn't trying to steal it or take credit for it. I was letting people know that that is all I had to do to get the games to work on my ps2, not having to go through the 100 or so steps that are mentioned in this thread and others to make a DVD-9 to DVD-5. I have nothing but for respect for the guys who figured out how to do all the stuff talked about in this forum, I just found something that was easy to do and worked for me and wanted to share it with everyone. Sorry if any toes were stepped on in process, I sure didn't mean to.
It's okay, just give me credit in the future. I didn't come up with that method, in fact most things I've put in my FAQ, somebody else did first. Cheers!
please helpme !!! alkohol or some one that can help!
when I get to the part where you use PSS Down and you drag All the extracted pss files to that program and then I hit go.I get an error that says (Component 'ACTIVESKIN.OCX'or one of its dependencies not correctly registered:a file is missing or invalid.)Can you please tell me what Im doing wrong or how to correct this problem.Thanks...
I DID IT AGAIN
STEP BY STEP OF ALKOHOL GUIDE AND I HAVE THE SAME ERROR WHEN I DRAG THE PSS FILE INTO THE TOOL V1.01 AND THEN PRESS GO APPEARS THIS ERROR ...UNDER THE PSS Plex (Component 'ACTIVESKIN.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid)
I DONT KNOW WHY I RECEIVE THIS ERROR...IF I DID EVERYTHING LIKE THE GUIDE.....I OBSERVE THAT ALL THE FILES HAS THE SAME SIZES ...THE SAME FILE ...EVERYTHING IS LIKE THE GUIDE.. I PUT THE DOWNSAMPLE RATE AT 55% EVERYTHING IS RIGHT. I HAVE DOWNSAPLING TOOL V1.01 AND I HAVE APACHE 3 AND THE GT4 RIPPED TOOL 1.02 ...BUT I HAVE THIS ERROR ....MAN IM VERY SAD...PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Be patient and watch the all caps messages. Alkohol is busy with several things at the moment. I searched for a couple minutes and found the problem. Search a little next time.
From Alkohol:
Here's what you need to do:
If needed, place ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your C:\Windows\System32
Example: C:\Windows\system32\ACTIVESKIN.OCX <-- this is what it should have/read when you go into your "windows" and "system32 folder" after you've "extracted" and placed ACTIVESKIN.OCX in "system32" folder, now inside System32 folder, you should see your new ACTIVESKIN.OCX in there.
To get ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your "system32" folder, do as the following:
<> open up "gt4_tutorial" with WinRAR or WinZIP <> double click on PSSDown
<> click on ACTIVESKIN.OCX and extract to specified folder
<> browse to local Disk C:(your hard drive), Windows, System32
and now click OK
<> now it should put ACTIVESKIN.OCX inside your system32 folder
That's it... now try to rebuild GT4 all over again. Hope you'll get a success this time.
THANKS!!!! OK YOU R RIGHT I NEED MORE PASCIENCE!! IS THAT THE GAME GT4 I RETURNED BACK TONIGHT ITS FOR THAT REASON I WAS DESESPERATED ...BUT I RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND I HAVE NOW THE GT4 BACKUP AND RUN PERFECTLY THANKS ANYWAYS
TO ALKOHOL AND Tokijin .....WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT TO REBUILD THE GAME GOD OR WAR....USE THE SAME STEPS OF 50 CENT?? ITS BECUSE I READ THE SONIX GUIDE BUT A DON'T LIKE IT!! ITS TO COMPLICATED...
Joel23 make sure your caps lock is turned off when you're typing. You'll get banned quickly if you keep that up. There are a couple guides to backup 50 cent bulletproof. This one, and here's another: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/259903
Hehe Tokijins a busy guy, wonder where he has time to be an "Afterdawn Addict." Well hes good help, thanx! Anyway DQ8 should be downloaded in a couple of hours, then theres the problem of putting it on my HDD. Not really a problem, just very time consuming lol at least i don't have to do anything, HDL_Dumb will take care of that. The 80 minute wait takes piss tho...
I don't know. That's the correct iso size I believe. All I can think of was a bad burn. I hate to tell you to waste another DL disc, but I can't really think of anything else. Is your firmware up to date?
92. Q. What is firmware and why should I care?
A. Firmware as defined by AD:
Sort of a "operating system of the hardware", an embedded instruction set built-in or flashed into a hardware equipment, such as a router, CDR drive, DVD-ROM drive, washing machine, etc.
Newer Firmware can unlock new features that are sealed on certain DVD Burners like booktyping, or simply enhance your existing Burner by improving burn quality and media compatiblility. Keeping your Firmware up to date is essential to ensure quality burns and maximum functionality from your DVD Burner. When flashing your burner with new Firmware, be very careful. Make sure you shut down all programs running in the background, the DVD-ROM drive is empty, and you follow all the directions included in the Firmware download exactly. A bad flash can fry your DVD Burner. Proceed with caution. You can find all the Firmware you'll ever need here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
2/5/07 UPDATED: uploaded tools for downloading, tools available now.
OK... folks, finally here's the XENOSAGA Episode 1 (US version 7.88GB NTSC) guide. I know, I know it's late (old news), but some people are still trying to rebuild XENOSAGA Episode 1 and I believe a lot of them are having a hard time trying to rebuild this game. With that being said, even if the RipKit is out there, there is not really any good instructions on how to do it. If you read the "readme instructions via the Xenosaga 3 discs ripkit", you may get lost/confused. So for those that still need to backup this game (XENOSAGA EPISODE 1 US), I suggest you carefully follow this guide and you'll be fine.
(Credits goes to the original creator of the Xenosaga 3 discs RipKit, revised guide by Alkohol)
<><> XENOSAGA Episode 1 (Der Wille zur Macht) US Version NTSC 7.88GB - 3 discs rebuilding guide <><>
Actually I didn't really do anything much - basically I just followed the "XENOSAGA RipKit" and it worked for me. Except I have some issue (i.e. x2 disc didn't boot), so I did tried to use Gnie's ExPERT to rebuild the whole game (7.88GB) just to see how it goes and it looks like it worked too, but I have not finish the game yet, so I can't really confirmed that it has everything (100%) on it. However, I did have to rebuild the x2 (disc 2 of Xenosaga) again, but using the "tree files" from the x2 ISO, using Apache 3 or ISO Buster for reference when I used CD DVD GEN 1.5 to generate the IML files, rebuild with Gnie's IML2ISO v4 and burned with DVD Decrypter. Again, I did another rebuild using Gnie's ExPERT Tool for the x2 ISO alone and it looks OK, but freeze at certain point eventhough I used genuine media like YUDEN000T02. At last, I started everything over to see if I'll get a "green light" results using the Xenosaga 3 discs RipKit again and was able to get x2 (disc 2 of Xenosaga to boot properly).
**NOTE: extremely important here, for this game, I recommend at least 25GB - 30GB of free space on your hard drive.
<> burning with DVD Decrypter at 4X with high quality media like Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell (mij by Hitachi).
<> make sure your burner's firmware is up-to-date with the latest firmware available.
**NOTE: before getting start, you need to create 2 separate folders in your main hard drive (C or D)
<> make a KIT folder and another folder name XENO in your hard drive (C or D)
<> you will need to Extract the "ripkit files of the Xenosaga 3 discs" from the KIT using WinRAR into your KIT folder in the hard drive.
<> the XENO folder is for storing all of Xenosaga's files of both layers when using Apache 3 to extract the Xenosaga's ISO.
<><> STEP 1 <><> <> Rip the game (XENOSAGA Episode 1 ) with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 <>
<><> STEP 2 <><> <> Extract the Xenosaga's 3 discs RipKit via WinRAR <>
<><> STEP 3 <><> <> Extract both layers using Apache 3 <>
**NOTE: at this process (step 4), I recommend you NOT to touch your computer at all. Shutdown all other programs/inqueries (disconnected from the net, no multi-tasks).
<><> STEP 4 <><> <> Rebuilding the 3 discs ISO with the XENOSAGA's RipKit <>
*** PROCESS Disc 1 ***
<> go to your KIT foler in your hard drive (C or D), and double click on "go MS-DOS Batch File" <> once CMD or Dos Command launched, press any key to continue (it will do its thing)
<> once DVD IML2ISO Tool v@3.1 lauched, use the browse button on the right after "TEST.IML" to browse to your KIT folder and select x1.IML, click OPEN, then click START.
<> DVD IML2ISO Tool v@3.1 will run and will eventually rebuild a new ISO for the x1
<> this will take a while (approximately 15 minutes), so don't touch your computer at this time, it will looks like it's freeze at 28%, 31%, 38%, 41%, 44% ect., but actually it's running.
<> once "DVD IML2ISO" says: "Rebuilding ISO Done! => C:\KIT\x1.ISO", click OK, and EXIT out from
DVD IML2ISO.
*** PROCESS Disc 2 ***
<> now Dos Command will run real quick and DVD IML2ISO will pop up again
<> browse to KIT folder in hard drive again and select x2.IML, OPEN, then START <> let it does it's thing, when it's done, DVD IML2ISO will say: "Rebuilding ISO Done! => C:\KIT\x2.ISO, click OK, and EXIT out from DVD IML2ISO again.
*** PROCESS Disc 3 ***
<> Dos Command will run again (this time a little longer)
<> DVD IML2ISO will launch, browse to KIT folder again and select x3.IML, OPEN, then START.
<> let it does it's thing, when it's done, DVD IML2ISO will say: "Rebuilding ISO Done! => C:\KIT\x3.ISO <> click OK, then EXIT out frm DVD IML2ISO, then press any key to continue (this will EXIT out at Dos Command).
That's it... once everything is done, you should have 3 new rebuilt ISO (x1 ISO is 4.16GB, x2 ISO is 4.36GB, x3 is 1.32GB). Now just rename them to whatever you like (I called mine REBUILT XENOSAGA1) and burn with DVD Decrypter at 4X with some high quality media. Good luck and enjoy your backup to the fullest now!!!!!
If for some reason any of the newly rebuilt x1 ISO or x2 ISO or x3 ISO did not work/boot, then you may have to try to rebuild the x ISO using either Gnie's ExPERT or your usual rebuilding process. Yes, I did wasted tons of good discs (at least 10 YUDEN000T02, one of my favorite high quality media), but managed to have a successful backups afterall - what a pain huh.
Again, credits goes to the original creator for the Xenosaga 3 discs RipKit (sorry I don't know his name).

Jesus, makes me glad my modchip supports DVD-9 games lol. Nice guide Alky, very much overdue. I'll add it to my FAQ and give you some more free publicity. Cheers!
