I have read many threads which state this time consuming way to rebuild ps2 games. Well it just doesnt have to be that hard. I will tell you the easy way to copy, rebuild, and burn ps2 games in the easiest way possible. I have had a 100% success rate, and have coppied scores of PS2 games. This will work on every PS2 dvd game you want to back up. (mind you, if its a dvd9 game which is rare, you will have to lower the video/audio quality so it fits on a single layer dvd. This can be done using pssplex)

Step 1.
Decrypt the ps2 game to your hard drive using dvd decryptor.

Step 2.
Open up Isobuster and load in the image file.

Step 3.
Hold shift and highlight all the game files and put them in a folder.

Step 4.
Open up Nero burning rom and create a new UDF/ISO dvd (It's the last one in the list). Drop all the game files into Nero in the same order as it is listed in Isobuster. Just keep Isobuster open as a reference when you do this. Nero will change the order of the files graphically, however they burn in the order that you dropped them in.

Step 5.
Name the image and burn it at 4x.

Step 6.
Presto, you've rebuilt and burned a PS2 game. Play it.

note:
Some games have dummy files in them.(ie. guilty gear, spider-man 2). They are used to beef up the size of the image and to copy-protect the game. Burning games with the dummy files left unchanged will result in a game that does not boot (using swap magic anyway). To remedy this annoyance follow these fun steps.

Step 1.
Use Isobuster to copy the files to a folder.

Step 2.
Create a new text file. Open it and press the space bar, then close it. This creates a byte of data in the text file.

Step 3.
Rename the text file you made to the same name as the dummy file in your folder. You can point out a dummy file if its called DUMMY.DAT, DUMMY.000, DUMMY.001 etc., GARBAGE.DAT. These files will always be in the main folder of the iso.

Step 4.
Overwrite all those dummy files with the blank ones you've created. (games generally only have 1 dummy file, but some have multiple dummy files)

Step 5.
Patch complete! Burn it.

yeah, I know you're retarded.

The UDF/ISO can't hold anything more than 2GBs so how can you burn it?

I tried burning Ares with the DVD-ROM (UDF), it allow you to put the part1.pak and burn. Unfortunately, the disc won't play in the PS2. Poodude, can you elaborate clearly how you backup Ares? Thank.
On a sidenote, I never thought CQ titties would look so good.

I used this method for Backing up God of war.

Programs needed:
Dvd Decrypter: http://dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download
Isobuster: http://www.isobusterdownload.org/isobuster_all_lang.zip
Cdvdgen: http://www.btinternet.com/~ps2rippininfo/tools/cddvdgen.exe

1) COPY THE PS2 GAME DVD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE AS AN ISO IMAGE.
a)OPEN DVD Decrypter.
b)IN THE DESTINATION AREA, CLICK ON THE FOLDER ICON TO CHOOSE BOTH A NAME AND A STORAGE LOCATION FOR THE ISO IMAGE.
c)CLICK ON MODE > ISO > READ.
d)CLICK ON THE DVD ICON TO START THE PROCESS.
e)WAIT UNTIL THE PROCESS IS FINISHED THEN CLOSE DECRYPTER AND GO TO STEP 2.

2) EXTRACT THE FILES FROM THE ISO IMAGE.
a) CREATE A NEW FOLDER ON YOUR HARD DRIVE TO STORE THE
EXTRACTED FILES.
b) OPEN ISO BUSTER AND CLICK ON FILE > OPEN IMAGE FILE.
c) NAVIGATE TO THE ISO FILE CREATED IN STEP 1 AND CLICK ON ?OPEN?.
d) HOLD THE CONTROL KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD AND LEFT CLICK
EVERY FILE AND FOLDER IN THE LIST.
e) ONCE ALL THE FILES ARE HIGHLIGHTED, RIGHT CLICK ON ONE OF THEM AND CLICK ON ?EXTRACT OBJECTS?.
f) NAVIGATE TO THE NEW FOLDER THAT YOU CREATED ON YOUR
HARD DRIVE AND CLICK ?OK?.
g) WAIT FOR THE PROCESS TO FINISH THEN CLOSE ISOBUSTER.

3) CONVERT THE EXTRACTED FILES INTO 2 BIN FILES.

a) OPEN CDVDGEN.
b) SELECT ?CREATE NEW PROJECT? AND THEN SELECT ?DVD-ROM
MASTER DISC?. DRAG CDVDGEN TO THE LEFT SIDE OF YOUR
SCREEN.
c) NAVIGATE TO THE FOLDER THAT YOU CREATED ON YOUR HARD
DRIVE BACK IN STEP 2 AND OPEN IT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN.
d) SET THE WIDTH OF THAT WINDOW SO THAT IT IS ONLY 1 FILE WIDE. THIS WILL PLACE THE FILES INTO THE SAME ORDER AS THEY WERE ON THE GAME DISK BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM FOR CORRECT ORDER JUST IN CASE.
e) CLICK ON EDIT > SELECT ALL.
f) DRAG ALL THE FILES INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF CDVDGEN.
g) LOOK FOR A SLUS OR SLES FILE AND WRITE DOWN THE FULL NAME AND THEN CLICK ON THE ?VOLUME? TAB IN CDVDGEN.
h)TYPE SLUS OR SLES (WHICHEVER YOUR FILE NAME IS) INTO THE 1ST BOX NEAR "DISC NAME"
i) TYPE ALL OF THE NUMBERS FROM YOUR FILE NAME, WITHOUT THE PERIOD, INTO THE 2ND BOX.
j) TYPE PLAYSTATION FOR THE PRODUCER NAME AND SELECT THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE AREA.
k)CLICK ON "REC...".
l)SELECT YOUR DESIRED STORAGE LOCATION AND NAME THE FILE STAR.IML
m)YOU WILL GET 2 ERRORS, JUST CLICK OK FOR BOTH.
(If you get one error message, then you have to download ?WNASPI32.DLL? www.Nero.com/us/WNASPI32.DLL.html
and put it in your windows system 32 folder.
n)THE RECORDING SCREEN WILL POP UP, CLICK ON FILE > EXPORT IMAGE AND SAVE IT ON ONE OF YOUR HARD DRIVES (NOT IN A FOLDER) NAME IT STAR.LST
o) WHEN IT'S FINISHED, YOU WILL HAVE 2 FILES NAMED STAR.000 AND STAR.001
p)CLOSE CDVDGEN AND GO TO STEP 4.

4) MERGE THE .000 AND .001 FILES INTO A SINGLE ISO IMAGE.
THE EASIEST WAY TO MERGE THE FILES IS FROM A COMMAND SCREEN.
YOU WON'T HAVE TO INSTALL AN EXTRA PROGRAM THAT MAY NEED
EXTRA FILES TO WORK AND COME ON, ADMIT IT, DOS IS SO MUCH FUN!!
a)CLICK THE WINDOWS START BUTTON AND CLICK ON RUN.
b)TYPE CMD IN THE BOX AND HIT ENTER.
c)CHANGE THE DIRECTORY TO MATCH WHERE YOUR STAR.000 AND STAR.001
FILES ARE STORED.
EXAMPLE- IF THEY ARE ON THE C DRIVE, TYPE CD C:\ AND HIT ENTER.
IF THEY ARE ON ANOTHER DRIVE, TYPE THE DRIVE LETTER WITH A COLON AND HIT ENTER.
d)ONCE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DIRECTORY-
TYPE COPY/B STAR.000 + STAR.001 STAR.ISO AND THEN HIT ENTER.
e)WHEN IT'S FINISHED YOU WILL HAVE A NEW ISO IMAGE NAMED STAR.ISO THAT YOU CAN NOW BURN IN STEP 5.

5) BURN THE NEW ISO IMAGE ONTO A BLANK DVD.
USE YOUR FAVORITE DVD BURNING UTILITY TO BURN IT AT THE
SLOWEST SPEED.

I think that you messed up a step. Thanks for the info by the way, I was getting caught up with the Image maker, as I didn't have the DLL file I needed to extract the image. You rock.

But... I got 4 Star.00X files. You said two in your tutorial... yet there were 4 for me. The total size of the image file when all 4 are copied totals 3.96 gigs, which is very close to the 3.97 folder size. I'm sure that you meant to add all the files together.... or perhaps I just got 4 for another odd reason. Eather way I'm burning the Image right now to test.

Thanks again. I'm sure this will work though.

Maybe we need to merge the STAR.IML file in with the other for STAR.00X files... when we create our ISO... I'll try that next.

When I followed the directions to the T, they worked... When I mixed the STAR.000 and STAR.001 files the game booted and played fine... I don't understand why the other files aren't needed... how can the game only be 1.99 gigs... you mean to tell me that Sony put 6 gigs of dummy files in the game? Something's gotta be wrong here.... Hummmmm... Time to play my Orig, and Back up both to see if I notice any diffrences.

-----------------------------------------------
EDIT!!!!!!!!

I can't save this way... it freezes up when I walk in the save point... anyone else have this problem?

Just open up Command Prompt like he said, and merge the two files Star.000 and Star.001 Ignore Star.002, and Star.003

Once 000 and 001 are made into a image of about 1.99 gigs, then burn that image on a disc and it plays...

HOW EVER!!! I can't save... I have to eject my back up and throw my orig in to save. It could be my media, so I'm burning it on a diffrent kind of media how ever I doubt that's the problem.

Let me know what you get. I'm sure those other missing files are worth something.

I purchased this horrable SuperMedia Store brand dvd-r's... needless to say they are total trash. I use them for experiments when my RW discs have stuff on them I don't wanna erase. Well I used one of those cheap media discs when I was testing a second ago. I don't know why it wouldn't let me save, guess it couldn't read that part of the disc. But it seems to be letting me save with my Memorex DVD-RW right now. I guess I'll burn a copy on one of my good SONY DVD-R disc and give it a go tomorrow. But I haven't been to sleep in almost 24 hours now, so it's nighty night time for me. It seems to be working ok for now. I just don't understand how the game can be that small when it came from a 8.2 gig Image... I can't belive they'd use 6 gigs of dummy files.

If there is any easier way to merge the files,by all
means let us know. But we need more detailed information.

I used the only way i have heard to merge the files.
*NOTE*
Somehow it came up with 4 files also.
i merged 000+001 into 00a and 002+003=oob
I then merged 00a+00b=Godofwar.iso

I dont know why it made 4 files never happened before.

I mounted the .iso before i burned it.
And it exactly matched my original at 3.96gb

Good luck people it is possible.

ok very easy : use cd/dvdgen till you make the .iml file (thats before all the 001 filemaking stuff AND THE ERRORS) and the dumb copy a + copy b is not needed . OPEN APACHE OR ANY IML TO ISO PROGRAM AND MAKE THE ISO , ISOBUSTER CANNOT EXTRACT THE SECOND LAYER , APACHE CAN

oh yeah jizmak , did u rebuild a lot of games ? cuz it always makes 4 files with that filesize, 3 from 1 gig and 1 from whats left , but all that stuff isnt needed if u use iml to iso
