there seems to be a lot of people looking for the downcoverters that cho**s supply. Just got off the phone with the American divison of Transystem ( the company that supplys the downconverters to cho**s) and they sell indavidual units for $28 plus p&p...
hope this helps...

I could be wrong on this, but I think you don't need the downconvertor for N*L mmds, I am sure I saw a thread about this recently, and I think the downconvertor was the reason you needed a TX box for Ch@@us mmds but not for N*L mmds. But this a bit technical for me so don't take it as gospel!!
Whatever you say, say nothing when you talk about you know what for if you know who might hear you, you know what youll get. Youll be sent off to you know where for you would not know how long. Maybe I could search through the threads so you dont have to ??

You need a downconverter for any form of mmds.
The signal is being transmitted through the air at ~2.5Ghz.
The grid picks it up then its downconverted to a lower frequency range so as it can travel through coaxial cable without major loss.
A 2.5Ghz signal wont travel far through coax cable without huge loss and reflection.
The downconverted frequency range is formed by subtracting an intermediate frequency IF from the input frequency.
This lower frequency spectrum is then fed to the set top box which can decode it.
The actual signal contains data coded in different formats.
Chorus MMDS uses the DVB-T transmission format while NTL MMDS uses the DVB-C format, that is why different receivers are used.

Anybody know the network number for NTL mmds for input to a sagem box (cable) to receive RTE etc . Box is asking for this and the frequency and symbol rate. I know the symbol rate and the starting freq of my aerial.

google "transystem downconverter" click the first result (not the sponsored links) on that page the first downconverter is the one we use "AiDC+ Integrated MMDS Downconverter" click the "contact us" button at the top of the page. then under the U.S.A heading use the telephone number for the east coast divison. when your talking to him he will tell you that the downconverters are made in ireland just tell him that dosent matter that you would like to go ahead and order one anyway...
Hope this helped...

I live in a Ch***s MMDS area, we had an old chorus aerial(moon shape)from many years ago which I reinstalled on the roof at the weekend, using the Box-t and power supply from s&c I could get no signal on the auto-scan or on any of the frequencies mentioned on here. As the box-t works fine in my brothers house with Ch***s MMDS subscription I am putting it down to the downconverter on the old aerial being busted. I have ordered the downconverter recommended on here. Am I missing anything or if I replace the downconverter, should I be good to go ?

Wonder who owns that site must check whois. Just checked bit pricey and they actually give their name, address and phone number.
Not unusual but with the CC cracking down on those selling MMDS equipment stating that it can be used on "other" boxes isnt very wise.

130 channels for ch0ru$ would be typical, how many transponders are you picking up and at what frequency ?

hi at night you can see a red light blinking on the tramsmitter on woodcock hill. have you tried turing your ariel 90 degrees as i was having trouble setting up mine untill i realised that woodcock hill is on "vertical polarisation"
Hope this helped

I had the same problem myself when there were trees blocking my line.
I could get the low freq channels but the higher end ones ,especially those with alot of channels on a single transponder, were unstable.
I had to use a larger grid and optimise the location of the grid.
Im back again! Ive increased the height of my antenna (at least as high as the neighbours a few doors down). And through a lot of work Ive also made it that bit more stable. The reception has improved, but it is far from tolerable. I often get 10 to 20 seconds of good reception. Then, as I get my hopes up it gets all pixelated for the next 10 seconds. Then the cycle starts again. Its very frustrating.
There are some trees in the distance. Maybe they are interfering when it gets a bit windy. Is there anything I can do? After 3 months of moving the antenna, changing downconverters and trying different frequencies - I'm out of ideas and almost ready to give up :(
The only other thing I can think of is getting a stronger antenna. The one I have is a standard Ch0ru$ antenna with a SatAndCable downconverter attached. Would purchasing a 27dB Gain Antenna get a steady reception or would it just be a waste of time and money.
Really appreciate all the advice. Thanks.

The pole is around 14 ft long. It is attached to the wall of the house using strong external wall brackets. There is no chimney on the house.
