They have moved, do a factory reset first and then rescan.

Just got myself one of the downconverters from S&C. Did a manual and found channels at 690mhz, 706mhz, 722mhz, 738mhz, 754mhz, 754mhz, 770mhz, 786mhz and 804mhz.

So thanks mgb17 for figuring out that the problem was with my downconverter. Very happy now :-)

Only one slight problem remains. The channels on the higher frequencies (786mhz and 804mhz) are very poor quality, even though the others are fine. Is there any obvious reason for this? Could it be a weak tuner on The Box-T ?

Height vs Stability

I have my set up working now, but the quality of the channels vary. The channels on the lower frequencies are coming in ok and are watchable, but as the frequency increases the corresponding channels become unbearable to watch.

Currently the antenna is mounted on a long pole and moves a good bit in the wind. Should I buy a stronger pole and more brackets to make it more stable or should I be aiming to get better height? Its highly unlikely that I can achieve both. I guess my question boils down to: Is height or stability more important?

Thanks sc0user,

I understand that both are important. My problem is that I cant realistically do both. As my house is down very low I already have used the longest pole that I could source. Going any higher would require attaching 2 poles together. This will obviously mean less stability.

Given that channels on the low frequencies work ok (but not perfect) and the channels on the higher frequencies are really bad, would this indicate my problem. Is it possible that my antenna needs to be turned fractionally in one direction? As some channels are ok, does this not indicate that I have line of sight?

Looking back at your posts have you tried the Box T at your mates house, where he seems to have perfect reception?

Yes you could have line of sight to a point, (near LOS), but there could be a number of issues, which you have already spoken to mgb about. Are you pointing at a mast or deflector? And what is your approximate distance from said?

You have partial line of sight ,not enough judging from the symptoms you have described.
I had the same problem myself when there were trees blocking my line.
I could get the low freq channels but the higher end ones ,especially those with alot of channels on a single transponder, were unstable.
I had to use a larger grid and optimise the location of the grid.

Yes, I can confirm that there is no problem with the box. I also have tried a Eurovox TX and am having the same results at the same frequencies :(

I'm in East Cork and I think I'm pointing at a mast in the Cork Airport direction. That would be around 10 to 12 miles. There are other people in the area with original ch0rus equipment pointing in the same direction so I assume the signal is strong enough in our location.

Good, someone who has had the same problem. I was worried that my case may have been unique.

Do you think going higher fix this problem?
My grid is the same size as neighbors grids, so I'm hoping it should be ok.
What do you mean by "optimise the location of the grid"?

Thanks

Think Fano means creating a clearer line of sight. Either by elevating, (which you seem to have done), or moving it to another part of the house. It may be just the case as said you are just in an unfortunate position.

I am sure the position you speak of. The hill overlooking the Airport is just a deflector, "beam bender", etc etc, they are called many names :) It was the last time I had a look at it. But thats a while ago.

I presume your neighbour is quite close, (not sure if you are in a rural area where your "neighbour", could be quite a bit from you). If they are close enough as in right next door, then I assume if you replicate their elevation and direction then you should be able to attain a better signal reception.

Hi guys,
I picked up the EuroVox TX box and flashed it. I'm getting a list of Channels but most channels are 'Scrambled or bad Channel'. Can anyone give me some pointers on what to do to get these channels unlocked? Some Channels (Setanta Sports 1) for example work but the vast majority are locked. Thanks

Hi Yellow, I'm guessing your firmware is outdated. It should be something like 23_11_07, not 11_11_07. Check it on your system. You will need to flash your box. Luckily all the files needed are here, all you need is a null modem cable to connect your laptop and eurovox.

I assume then you have also performed a reset and scan again after the flash...

First of all this site has some great reading and thanks to all especially senior members
Hope someone can answer my question.
trying to setup eurovox tx for a friend. he has the old jerrold box which seems to be pickin up analogue channels. he is getting a couple but some are scrambled.
he is not sure how long the aerial is there.
how would i know if he had a downconverter on the aeriel?
would you have to replace the whole aerial or just add a downconverter to it?
I suppose i could bring my box and power supply and test but could this do any damage to it?
any help greatly appreciated

Your friend get no analogue mmds channels without a downconverter at the aerial. Beside that there should be a powerinserter which feed the downconverter with power.

The box and ariel you select are independent decisions.

You need a working ariel (with downconverter + power inserter). You also need a suitable box DVB-C or DVB-T (Cable or Terrestrial).

If you are on Ch0ru$ MMDS, you need a terrestrial box (eg. eurovox tx, dreambox 600t, the box-t). If you are on NTHell MMDS you will need a cable box (e.g. starview 3).

The ariel generally has the downconverter installed on it. The coaxial cable screws into the downconverter and is fed down to your TV room. In your TV room, you will have a device which plugs into the mains. This device is the power inserter and will have an input (from antenna) and output (to TV or Box). When you connect the coaxial from the ariel into this, it sends power back up to the ariel and receives the signal from the downconverter. The output from the power inserter is then connected to your receiver (dreambox, starview, eurovox etc.).
