dude, nin is on another market now, their not trying to be a primary console, just a secondary unexpensive gadget, i mean can it really be taken seriously with the drastic change on the controller? this gen it wont be a "CONSOLE" it will be a "GADGET" im not saying wheater it will make or loose money, well leave that up to developers creativity with the controller, but i bought an xbox360 and if when the revo comes out its really fun and its like under 200 im definately getting it for the hell of it, and keeping my 360 as a console, while the revo will just be a plaything get it...i guess i agree with u in a way, but tell me that if rev is under 200 bucks u wont buy it....of course u will....

Nintendo is known for only using top quality things in there products. You talk about inferior products look at PS2's crappy laser, and guess what? Sony's using the same laser for teh PS3. Xobx had teh crappy fan. Nintendo hardly has any recalls.

Ever considered WHY Microsoft and Sony are actually spending so much and absorbing such massive losses? Ever hear of a REAL marketing 101 term called Market Entry Barrier? Take a gander at the following wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barriers_to_entry
They are spending all of this money in order to try to fully break into the market against barriers that Nintendo established decades ago. Nintendo is established and has controlled and profitable operation. And yet the only way MS and Sony manage to even make half decent games is to run at a massive loss. Ever consider what will happen when the two of them decide to pull in their belts and the funds start to run dry? I'm looking forward to the bitching and moaning all the Xbox and PS fanboys start with when their respective companies try to start squeezing the stone for a bit of blood and game/hardware quality goes to the shitter.

I heard once a guy saying that Nintendo had only make disaster in the gaming industry. The guy only has 14 yrs. I though, How can he said that!!! So, that commentary leads me to remember. Let?s point out Nintendo?s ?Disasters?
Would ppl play a game with a carpenter in overall and an oversized simian, and the only thing u do is jump?
Expert and Salesmen said that the game was going to be a ?disaster?, and it turn out Nintendo First Arcade Hit, Donkey Kong.
Would ppl play a game that it?s basically running and jumping over strange unrealistic creatures for like 32 times in a row, defeating the same boss?
Expert and Salesmen said that it?ll bore them to dead. History told us that Super Mario Bros. it was the best selling game of its year.
Would ppl play with a controller with 8 buttons plus a D-Pad?
Experts said that it?ll confuse ppl. The truth: It became the standard of today controllers.
Would ppl play with a controller that uses an analog stick and a Trigger Button in the back on the controller?
Experts though that people where not used to this kind of design. But actually, Sony, Microsoft, AND Sega copied this style. Makes you think??..
There?re other ?Disasters? that I can point out but, let?s just keep this. So?
Why is Nintendo Failing?
The Downhill began at N64, when Nintendo stopped hearing what ppl want. If they had closed the deal with Sony, instead of pushing them aside, Playstation wouldn?t exist, or maybe it?ll be called different. N64 cartridges where really expensive, also the controller it was a little complicated, but yet, it manage to survive. The Gamecube got somewhat the same issue. It doesn?t have the hardware capabilities to run most of the third-party games. It?s not because they don?t want to make their games to the console. They just can?t. Nintendo could revive his company if they start listening to what ppl want. I hope that the revolution controller get the add-on that look like a regular controller, ?cuz the motion sensor controller, doesn?t look appealing to me at all. But that?s my opinion and only the future can tell.

Hardware has nothing to do with it. Many analysts and game developers now agree that the Gamecube is more powerful than the PS2.
The problem was that Nintendo didn't actively seek 3rd party support enough, and game developers thought it would be a waste of money to develop for the GC.
BTW, Nintendo is more aggressively seeking 3rd party support for the Revolution.
Also, I think the controller is brilliant.

oofRome, I agree about the 3rd party support. the gamecube in numbers was more powerful than the ps2 but developers didn't want to put games on the gamecube because of the layout of the gamecube controller. I still think the new controller is brilliant not revolutionary, and this might sway away some of that 3rd party support.

I highly doubt that the gamecube controller was the issue. There was as much a difference between the Xbox controller and the Ps2 controller and the Gamecube controllers.
Problem was that with multi-platform games, GC sold the least, so developers calculated a loss if they made it compatible with GC. It was purely based on money, not difficulty with the controller.

Hey, I just spent a few hours reading through all these posts about Nintendo vs Sony vs Microsoft. And personally. I think that Nintendo will revolutionize the gaming world.
The other companies boast high graphics and more speed and realism.
Nintendo hasnt given out any specs for a good reason. Well, two.
1. Secrecy.
2. Just plain not caring.
My hope and dream is that Nintendo will end up being an insane gaming system that will wait till the other two are out, then like a ninja in the shadows assasinate both of them with new concepts in gaming.
If the whole ninja thing doesnt work, Nintendo can just send LINK in there to PWN all of them. Not the wolf-link, not the kid-link, Full Adult Master Sword Wielding Bad-ass LINK.
Anywho, good luck all of you Sony or MS Fanboys, you know what system you were raised on, and if your new, your parents. People eventually go back to their roots. That is the basis of Nintendo.
I was born with Nintendo, Its what I've stuck with, and I stay happy and entertained.

Well I found the controller was an issue. Think about how hard is to play (if you're new to the Gamecube Controller) a fightin game, or a game that requires to enter a series of buttons rapidly with the GC controller. My bro found its hard (still does) to play with it. Also, How much a GC disc can store?? I dont know but it cant get closed to 4.7gb of an standard DVD Disc.

Out of everyone I know who owns a Gamecube, I don't think I've met someone who had troubles with the controller. Seriously, anyone who had difficulty with ANY controller (Minus small-handed people with Xbox original controller) isn't too coordinated. A few minutes playing Halo and the controller was a cinch. PLaystation wasn't a problem because it's the same as ps1. A quick round of smash bros melee or 007 and the gamecube controller was a piece of cake.
It's not the controller, it's the person who's holding it.
And I mean all that in the nicest way possible. ;-)

oofRome, there were actually game developers that couldn't put the same games as xbox and ps2 becuase the gamecube did not have enough buttons. It was limited. Thats what I meant with the new rev. controller. even if newly developed games are designed to use its scheme, think about all those other games for ps3 and x360 that you want to migrate to the rev. Dont get me wrong my favorite controller is the wavebird, but the layout is limited. Also, this is just my concern and personal opinion on the new rev. controller. I want to see Nintendo suceed (-;

I can understand that nintendo does use its franchies a bit too much. I could be seen that Nintendo didnt want to take a big risk during this current gen. Nintendo came out with a more limited system that keep it simple. For more simple games that are based on entertainment. Mario games, and yes, even Zelda games.. are indeed the top parts to nintendo, but I feel that now that they have more producers, nintendo will end up having more of the games that we see now with the other systems, and even more fun and entertaining games that involve mario and co. Mario Party 7 just came out on the GC, I hear no one really plays it, and I played it, of course I found it fun with my younger siblings, with all of the fun little mini-games, expessially the ones that involved the mic. Nintendo is really thinking out of the box as far it comes to gaming systems. For example.. was it not the N64 that came out with the Analog stick? The rumble pack? Then more currently, the touch screen, the Konga drums, the classic retro arcade style (NeS) controller. (Which I thought was tight.) and even the wireless controller.... At least I think of Nintendo as the company that started all of this.
Oh, and I forget, Zelda may come out a little late. Big deal. Just means its gonna be better. Either that, and talk says that it may come out for the Rev. Just imagine for a moment, swinging Link's sword....
Just saying, think about it. Think back... remember the good old days..

mario could very well be the biggest gaming prostitute.
3rd party titles are gonna be hard to create for the rev because the system has less buttons than the x360 and ps3, and with that controller it will be difficult to hit 2 buttons. i like nintendo but i think it has revolutionized the industry but it will never revolutionize it again. the next-gen war is against sony in japanese polls it is the least anticipated system. but nintendo has always been the underdog, when the gameboy came out the atari lynx came out, and then that hand held sega genesis.
another thing i would like to point out is that nintendo still cant play dvds unless u buy a special attachment. how can nintendo call it self revolutionary when its always the last system to do something, last system to use disks and not cartridges, last to play dvds, rev still wont have online play and hd games, and its always been the system with a weird controller
nintendo just needs to make a traditional and easy to use controller that everyone can look at and think its great like the x360

Except for the fact that If the 3rd party wanted to make a traditional game, the Revolution's controller can fit into a "shell" and still retain all of it's functions, theoretically giving the controller more buttons than either the 360 or PS3 controller. (Along with the motion-sensing capability)
Also, I'd say a controller isn't that large of a barrier if you consider that games may have to be developed for a 3 core CPU or a "Cell" processor that is completely new. Each system has potential barriers.

hey im all for the rev. i cant wait to use that controller and play the origional metroid prime, mario, and zelda, but what im trying to get across is that nintendo always closes doors for 3rd party developers and it hasent even released its specs.
wouldnt it be awesome if sega came back with a consule that you could play every sega game. ohhhhhh that would be way better than the rev. im still a major sega fanboy

It makes me glad that there is actually people out there who can at least understand nintendo's point of view. Oh well. It really really does matter about the games though. I play to be entertained. Mario Kart DS, I'm friggin obsesed. Anywho, I also spend time on Call of Duty 2 for Computer, and I can handle that, its a lot easier for me to shoot with a mouse and keyboard, must mean I can trace my roots back.. back to Medal of Honor or CS. Thats mostly why I cant play shooters on the Xbox, or even PS2. The point is that its all up to personal preferance really. And if you really cant decide, then you should look into the games, and wait a bit. I tell everyone who is set on getting a 360 just to wait a bit, let microsoft fix it.. let the price go down... wait a bit. Dont rush into it. I'm prolly gonna wait on the Rev too. Maybe then they would include the DVD thing with it later. Other stuff too. Nintendo can be cool like that. Meh, all really depends on Zelda tho.
I dunno... what do you guys think?
