So how are they making profits if they can't sell the console? You just contradicted yourself.

"Currently, as of the end of 2005, Nintendo has sold 20.61 million GameCubes compared to Sony's 100 million PlayStation 2's shipped, and Microsoft's 22 million Xbox's shipped"
As you can see, Ps2 has the majority lead and deserves it since it was out a year before both of them and GameCube is only slightly under Xbox. And plus that is only how many Ps2 and Xbox's were Shipped, not actually sold.
I got my information from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameCube

Quote: Need i remind you, how many gamecubes were sold in all compared to ps2's and xbox's
Um, the GC and Xbox were pretty close. The ps2 annihilated both of them.
Quote: I know nintendo is making profit but lets think about this for a minute, do profits really even matter if you can't sell the damn console, NO
right, back to my point that the gamecube did better than it's reputation.
Um, if Nintendo didn't sell any consoles, than they wouldn't have made a profit. But Nintendo sold consoles, and thus, made a profit. WTF is the matter with you?
I have a better question for you:
Does the number of consoles you sell matter if your company never makes a profit? If microsoft was a console-only company, than they would be in debt about 4 billion dollars. If sony was a console-only company, than they wouldn't be doing to hot either.
Luckily Microsoft and Sony are large companies and are allowed to continue to have a presence (especially sony) in the video game industry.
And I say luckily because A. no one likes a monopoly, and B. customers love choice.

Haha. Last I recall Nintendo was the only one who made profit from this console war. Meh. Somehow, I think Sony is doing the same thing Sega did. Put alot of faith and effort into their new system. Why? Because of fear... They know what is coming. They have to try their hardest to push out everyone else. The 360? Ha! Did you guys hear they are gonna push out another system late this year or next year? Why so soon? Cuz theyre afraid. And I sit and laugh. Blueray? 100$ A game? Who would pay that? Who can afford to keep that company alive? Buy 2-4 games max for that system, maybe the top hits. What if you think you get a hit, but dont? Take it back? Waste more money? Rent games? You think companies like Blockbuster can afford to keep PS3 games in stock at that price? Insane. And I'm right, the company losses money on the system, hopes to sell games, but doesnt, and dies! Mwhahaha!
Now on the other hand... any Mario fans out there... Have any of you seen the new DS title? New Super Mario Bros.? Looks great. Semi-3d/2d classic platformer with lots of kewl moves, powerups, and new stuff being announced all the time? Maybe 2player co-op? That would be tizight! Just waitin for the Zelda DS title too. Even its a little fourswordsish. Or Z64...
Anywho. We all know who will win. Sure, the war will long and draged out for gens, but thats cuz Sony/Microsoft have the funds from their other departments, whereas Nintendo is using money from its history in game sales. All these new things that Nintendo are using to make this system revolutionary are just things that M&S will copy down the line to become uniform, but... N is still 2-3 steps ahead.
Your blind ignorance and faith to the Halo gods will betray you.
Hate and violence will lead you down the dark path, forever to dominate your destiny. *force choke*
I was born with Nintendo, Its what I've stuck with, and I stay happy and entertained.

100% agree with you there. It will be like it was at the beginning of video gaming, Nintendo will make something super cool and everyone will copy them. Wanna know why? Because there is no creativeness to what Sony and Microsoft do. They just go by the book while Nintendo writes the book.

any proof to that ??
the reason nintendo didnt die this generation is beacuase all of their profit was coming from their hand held monopoly market which had ''ZERO COMPETITION''
also launching a new hand held each year must help alot too.
2003 - gba sp
2004 - nintendo ds

I agree as well. The similarities between the games for Gamecube and Wii are nearly inexhaustable compared to the similarities between xbox/xbox360 and the ps2/ps3.
And I think everyone here knows that the DS is the same as the GBA.
Why doesn't Nintendo try to do something different?
(Trolls piss me off. They sound as bad as NINTENDO FOR LIFE fanboys.)

Nope, completely based off of what I believe. Zero Competition? What about the PSP? The DS dominated it. They sold more DS's in a year than the GBA and PSP did so far.

nes,nes,n-64,game cube ?? whats the difference ? better gaphics.
gameboy, gameboy pocket, game boy color, game boy advance, gameboy advance sp ?? whats the difference ,yep only better graphics.
so nintendo ds is actually something new just beacuase it has a touch screen omg a touch screen in a hand held product ??? any more buttons to the system ??? nope.
the same thing is for wii, and who is anyone to say nintendo didnt rip off the idea of playing different games from the sony eyetoy.
----------
the psp just came out last year ,march 2005.
this generation started in 2000 with the ps2 and 2001 gc and xbox.those times nintendo was not selling gc's at all even though it was the cheapest console of them all. and they got all of their profit yeah yo u know it hand held products.
so for 2001,2002,2003,2004 nintendo hald held was a complete monopoly. zero competiton like i said.
so yeah they were making bigs bicks of their monopoly just like microsoft is making big bucks of his OS monopoly, just like appple is making big bucks of his ipod.
sony doesnt have any monopolies though sony is the world wide leader in electronics.

Actually if you stopped and thought for a minute, you would realizie that from generation of system to generation of system, the biggest advancement besides graphics has been the controller... and all of the new styles of controller were done by Nintendo.
The origional Nes control pad took over from the old Atari joystick. This became the industry standard and Sega used it for the Master System as well.
Nintendo for it's SNES added two more face buttons and two shoulder buttons.. At that point, the Genesis only had 3 buttons but came out with a new six button controller.
Nintendo for it's N64 added the analog stick, and rumble pack. At that time the PS2 was just a Snes controller, 4 button face, D pad and shoulder buttons... Then 6 months later they had a 2 analog stick controller with rumble built in...
For the gamecube it added the Wavebird, which was the first RF wireless controller to take off.. This has since become the industry standard, with the 360 premium package coming with Wireless controllers as the pack in.

Correct. All the while the video game industry was declining and becoming more hardcore-gamer oriented. Hence Nintendo trying to change the trend with the DS and the Wii.
Quote: so nintendo ds is actually something new just beacuase it has a touch screen omg a touch screen in a hand held product ??? any more buttons to the system ??? nope.
What's your point? A system is no good unless it has more buttons?
Quote: the same thing is for wii, and who is anyone to say nintendo didnt rip off the idea of playing different games from the sony eyetoy.
If you want to play the rip-off game, then Nintendo beat the eyetoy with the Game Boy Camera.
The eyetoy and the Wii controller are completely different. On top of that, the eyetoy is an accessory for the ps2 with a puny library of games using the device for actual gameplay. (10-20 I believe. Not including Cameo compatible games)
Quote: and they got all of their profit yeah yo u know it hand held products.
Nintendo also made money with almost 22 million gamecubes sold for profit, as well as sales from games and accessories.

Ok, let me ask you guys this, what is really "new" with the xbox 360 that makes it so much better to play games than on the original xbox. And let's say that I didn't have the internet so i couldn't use the market place.

ualoser: quit being a troll already. No one is releasing the "same crap year after year".
You run around blabbering things that make no sense, you have no grounds for your claims, and overall you're just here to piss people off, so do us all a favor and leave. You're not adding anything to this thread, and honestly I don't think you would have anything meaningful to add to an Apple or Sony discussion either.
I find it irionic that an Apple supporter would bash Nintendo's handheld diversity, when the Ipod is continuously re-released in the same fashion and manner.

What I meant was that you have been bashing just Nintendo for having nothing "new" and their is plenty of things you could say about other things ( xbox360, apple for example) that aren't new. I guess I just don't get why you would have to bash Nintendo when Nintendo is actually mixing things up and coming out with new styles and ways to play games. Mis-placed aggression?

Man. I'm pissed. Nintendo comes out with this awsome new controller, and Sony goes and pisses me off and copies it. Gee, I wonder why. Cuz they know thats how controllers will be! Sony just thinks at the last minute they can change their controller and be ahead of everyone! But... since they changed it at the last second it's probably gonna suck. This is what I get for watchin E3 on G4. Oh well. -_-"

I was more surprised than mad, but I was definately feeling both sentiments.
But this also makes it harder to bash Nintendo's controller. At some level, Sony, the dominant name in the Home console war, has in replied that maybe this whole motion sensing thing might not be such a bad idea after all. I mean sony has begun to latch on even before the Wii has even had a chance to prove itself in the market.
It certainly seems sony took a huge shit on Nintendo to a lot of Sony-haters, but as a Nintendo Rep quoted the famous phrase "immitation is the most sincere form of flattery".
I take this as a victory for Nintendo's idea.
Now we just have to see if games can deliver on it.
