I'm getting a revolution as soon as I can.
Partly because I'm a nintendo bitch, but also because I honestly think I'll have more fun playing it.
And I can always go over to friends houses to play some crazy multiplayer first person shooter or something.

one thing i dont like about nintendo is that there games are really only for die hard fans at this point
no dont diss me for saying this but do u think it would be a good idea if nintendo pulled out of the home consule race and put all of their money to the handheld race. I think its to late for nintendo in the home consule if this system fails nintendo will die. but its not to late for nintendo to gain alot of ground in the hand held department and kick psp to the curb

I certainly hope that Nintendo doesn't just go to hand-helds. I'm not that big of a fan of handhelds in the first place.
Besides, the PSP and DS are pretty different. Hell, the DS is as direct a competitor to the PSP as the new Ipod.
Holy hell. I just thought of something:
What if Apple decided to make a console?

Not really. There is already quite a few more mature games under development than their was for the Gamecube around this time.
Also:
Has anyone heard news about the rumored 4-core cpu and the dual core gpu? I don't really believe it (such powerful components would warrant a much more expensive console, and plus it's just too good to be true). One thing is confirmed: The CPU has been completed. No official specs as of yet, and probably not until "May 9, 2006", when Nintendo's email said a lot of stuff would be revealed.

Yeah, I've heard a few rumors about the Rev's specs. None that are confirmed I think. Codenamed stuff from nintendo otherwise. I'm actually happy they didnt release specs. Then I couldnt listen to people argue over which one is better. Wouldnt it be really really funny if Nintendo actually did have higher specs? For a lower price? Then I would sit and laugh, laugh so hard cuz everyone else would already have a 360 or Ps3, and then the shelves will be full of them as ppl try to return them... quite funny.
Of course, it doesnt matter if it is, cuz truthfully I dont care. I will buy it even it doesnt have the best specs. That is not what makes a console, Cpu's cores and Gpu's. Sounds more like computer talk...
If Nintedo did pull out of the console race... they would just make all of their projects smaller. Can you imagine a protable gamecube? What am I talking about, its already portable enough. But what if the Rev was a handheld? Next-gen power in your hands! And still have capabilities you use TV's and Controllers?! Technology is getting smaller and smaller, so I wouldnt doubt it.
Nintedo plans on going in a diffrent direction from now on. Diffrent controller designs, diffrent style of gameplay, diffrent almost everything, re-defining the game.
All I can think about mostly, is that when this snow is gone, Zelda will be out soon. Just cant wait....
I was born with Nintendo, Its what I've stuck with, and I stay happy and entertained.

Quote: gsuscrazy,a lot of people here at afterdawn cry there eyes out when sony showed the boomerang controller for ps3. now that sony shows everyone the graphics no one is crying over the controller. it like they like the new one sony made, now that they see the amazing graphics they don't care what sony put in there hands.
Sorry to go back to something posted long long ago, but the ps3 controller is going to be ergonomically better than the ps2 dual shock controller. If youve done your research, you'lle know that.

well think of who killed themselves when ( as i stated in previous threads ) sony will lose upwards 400 million a year for 4,5,or 6 years if they sell it for 400 - 450 bucks and xbox 360's cant even satisfy pre-orders, let alone regular gamers who just want to play. Stack a loss of $135 loss onto each xbox 360 sold and id say nintendo looks to be in pretty good sitting.

I have a problem with what you are saying. You say that they will loose 400million if they sell it at 400$ a year. Do you not know that prices will tremendolsy drop once new technology hits? Sony will loose money durring the first year, then durring the after years, they will gain that profit back. 1st year they loos money, then they drop the price by a bit, then make profit.(selling there system more than the make it durring the next year[s])

After I read all of this, one thing really stood out in my mind. How long will it take MS and Sony to realize that they are losing money through consoles? This is what I understand is happneing, if it isnt, forget i said anything...anyways, the whole thing nowadays is about money. If you dont have much free time, skip to the next paragraph. This reminds me of king of the hill where hank goes into a ma n pa store and hes a buck short. So pa says, we dont care about a dollar here or there. Then ma is like, you are pa-thetic. Pa s like they call you ma cause your always ridin ma ass! lol.
Anyways, all they care about is profit, right? So why spend money if you dont have to? Maybe they'll realize it and drop out...Nintendo is only gaming, so maybe it will win...if it lasts that long ;)

There was this thread a few months back, I think it's died out now but... It went on for about 25 pages. And someone posted this really interesting site that explains that. Something about the barriers Nintendo has set up preventing others to make a system w/o taking huge loses. It was on Wikipedia if you want to search it.

Some of you guys are funny.
First of all, Microsoft IS INDEED taking a $130 per unit loss on every Xbox 360 sold. Where they are making up the money is with software sales. That is their whole business strategy. You take a loss on the hardware, but get it into as many homes as possible, and then make it up with the software sales. Microsoft uses a similar strategy with it's Windows products. You can buy Windows XP seperately for anywhere from $100 to $200.... but in a low end Dell that costs $399, it's pre installed.. How is that possible?? Microsoft doesn't mind taking a loss on the Windows OS, because they will make the money back on OTHER programs that are licensed and sold that run on it's OS.
Sony has employed the same strategy with the PS2.
Nintendo has never taken a loss on the Gamecube. When it first debuted, they were making something like a $1 profit on each GC sold at $199. And actually, with every price drop the system has seen, their profits have RISEN due to the fact that the price of technology goes down so rapidly. IT IS A CRIME that the PS2 sells for $150.
Nintendo has made practically every innovation that there is for video games. They made the first D-Pad controller for the NES. The first 6 button controller, with L and R triggers on the SNES. The first analog stick with the N64. The rumble pack made rumble features in controllers standard. Controllers...hmmmmmm...seems to be a constant with Nintendo.
What is also a constant, is that with every controller redesign, every other gaming company has completely copied it. And you wonder why Nintendo doesn't reveal much about their system??
Nintendo's biggest mistake was sticking with Cartriges for the N64. Had they shifted to CD's, Sony would never have been a factor, because Square would have stayed with Nintendo, and anyone who knows their gaming history, knows that it was Square that made the PS1 a hit with Final Fantasy 7. It was languishing before that alongside the Saturn, which was an abortion.
I concider myself a Nintendo historian, I am not talking out of my ass, and I am not a blind fanboy, I have all 3 systems current gen, and will probably own a 360 and Revolution for the next gen.
As for anybody who is touting the fact that Nintendo still doesn't play DVD's as a reason it doesn't sell, that's so foolish it's ridiculous. Using your PS2 or Xbox as a DVD player is doing nothing but shortening their lifespans, ESPECIALLY the PS2's, since they are made like crap. For the price of a PS2, you can buy a Gamecube pack with Mario Kart DS and a $40 DVD player.
Nintendo has always been about the games, I don't understand how someone can tout a company making computer software, or a company making TV's and speakers, as a STRENGTH in the video game department. if anything, it means that their attention is divided and not focused on games.. and that's what it's about right? The games?
Everyone has their own preference, but I'll take the Gamecube and it's limited library with titles like Metroid, Zelda, Tales of Symphonia, and the like, over the huge libraries of the other systems any day. The average gamer owns about 15 to 20 games per generation, and between 3rd party and Nintendo made games, there are at least 20 keepers in the Gamecube's library, that's good enough for me.
As for the Revolution, what has Nintendo ever done to make you think anything will be different? I know the controller will rule, it will have Zelda, and I most likely won't be bitching about a defective laser and returning it within the first year. Score Nintendo.

OMG Dude I love you. Someone who can stick up for their heritage! Congrats man!
This has nothing to do with the topic... but I got Nintendogs for xmas, I fell in love with it, its so fun with the mic and touch screen. Plus, I showed it to this girl today and she loved it. Bonus points, eh? 1up?
By the way, I dont know if anyone even answered the question... I think Nintendo isnt killing themselves, they're just taking a diffrent aproach, kinda like the tortise and the hare, whats everyone else thing?
I was born with Nintendo, Its what I've stuck with, and I stay happy and entertained.

Nintendo strategy:
1. Let Msoft and Sony duke it out in a war over who has the biggest...er...graphics capabilties (like nerds in a locker room)
2. Release a system that performs at a completely different level
3. Make it compatible with traditional game play
Result: The only MUST HAVE system...unless Halo 3 is worth 400 bucks to you.

I dont think its like that.
But then others can say "if mario is worth 299-$ for you."
Nintendo made the revolution not that powerfull.
To make the price CHEAP.
ou are just paying for what you are buying for any consol.
ps3 also has backwards compatability.
Why pay 7$ for a nes game when you can download the better version of the internet FREE? C where I am heading?

My point is that there is not much that Msoft has EXCLUSIVE rights to that has really gained much acclaim other than Halo. Nintendo has several solely owned titles that help it continue to sell systems. On top of that, it will play most of the great games the other consoles have. Then, there is the controller. While Nintendo will be able to function like an Xbox or Playstation as far as the contoller is concerned, the other systems will not be able to do what Nintendo can. I forsee a lot of gamers having and Xbox AND a Revolution or a Playstation AND a revolution. In the end, it provides a new form of gaming with which other consoles are not prepared to compete.
