i think i got a bad disc

You can try RipIt4Me - I think you can still get it from softpedia.com.
You'll need dvd shrink and dvd decrypter installed 1st.

It Works for me!
The copy protection is in the files accompanying the main movie. Any time you can rip the main movie by itself, that's a good means of eliminating copy protection problems. Copy protection in the extra files is why doing Full DVD is sometimes more difficult than movie only. In some cases though the copy protection is so heavy the decrypter can't open the DVD. That's when updates come in handy. ;)

Got it done with DVDfab hd decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero. No problems. Plays great.

well here's my $0.02
downloaded the 4.0.0.8 beta this morning, since the current install of DVDFab wouldn't work. After it ripped flawlessly, DVDShrink crashed upon reading the DVDfab output until i disabled the preview, then i converted to ISO and burned w/ ImgBurn.
haven't tested the backup yet, but so far so good. Love the new BETA, hate the monkey icon!!!

I know so may of you have already put in your $.02 but let me tell you anyway how I did Ratatouille I ran it through dvd shrink while running Any dvd and then I backed it up with Dvd Decrypter....and it went off without a hitch.

Ok, well i managed to rip the film only with the new platinum edition of dvd Fab, and then re-rip it with dvd shrink just fine, eliminating the 5.1 track and compressing only 86%, not to bad--i never compress lower than 90% usually, but occassionally to 85% depending upon the product. i still cannot do the entire disc option, as it keeps stopping with an error message about some player i need to attach or something? pathplayer? what is that? any ideas on what it is, what it does, and how to activate it? also, how much is this dvd fab platinum edition cost after the trial--no link takes me to a purchase page for a price. and if i save it to a dvd (the initial download) can i kep reinstalling and getting it for another trial period (as i've done with anydvd ofttimes)? and vts 06 01 will not rip--why?

OK, I got the newest version of ANYDVD and with that runningin the background, DVDShrink ripped the movie and the extras fine! i put it on 2 discs, no compression, as i wanted some of the extras. thanks folks!

I also had no problem doing Ratatouille with AnyDVD 6193and NeroRecode-main movie only- region 1.

I have successfully decrypted Ratatouille with DVDFab 4.0.0.5 Beta; it worked perfectly. Now when I use DVDShrink v3.2, the app gets to about 25% of the Analyzing process then the program closes. So I posted a thread. A moderator suggested to run Fixvts and VobBlanker on the files before using DVDShrink. I have now used both of those apps on the decrypted files and DVD Shrink is still doing the same thing. Any more ideas?

You can also try the new beta out of DVDFab - 4.0.0.8 out today.
I used AnyDVD -6.1.9.3 w/ CloneDVD - almost a full backup - unchecked which special features I didn't want.

jaywest--try getting the new anydvd and running it while you use the regualr dvdshrink--it worked for me. and i used the new beta dvd fab to get only the film itself, which worked; the extras, or #^, did not work and got it stuck

Since we know the newly updated programs AnyDVD and DVDFab are doing this movie. The only conclusion seems to me is that you have a pc issue or you got yourself a badly pressed spanking new DVD- exchange it for one that can be backed up. JM2C

RIPIT4ME doesn't work...after cleaning out the VOB it starts to run DVD Shrink and closes down. DVDFAB Movie Only worked fine.

I ripped Ratatouille using DVDFabHD v3.2.1.0 and had absolutely no trouble whatsoever. On the other hand, a week ago I tried ripping Spider-Man 3 using the version of DVDFabHD prior to the 3.2.1.0 version and while it seemed to work just fine, the resulting files would not play. I was eventually able to extract the full movie without the menus but I'm going to try again this week using the latest stable version or perhaps the newest Beta version of DVDFabHD. Hopefully that will give me a complete rip.
Interesting how the same program and same version of the program works for some people and fails for others. I wonder if it has anything to do with the variations due to Region? Mine happened to be Region I.
