I'm new at this so I'd appreciate if someone explained what I was doing wrong. I read through this thread and the various programs people used to try and copy Ratatouille.
I originally tried DVDShrink 3.2 by itself with DVD43 running to remove decryption. It got to like 5% and errored out due to cyclic redundancy check.
I downloaded RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0 and ran it. Through the process it loaded DVD Decrypter (probably old version) and DVD Shrink did a VOB cleaner and some other things. DVDShrink analyzed fine, I put in writable media, and everything worked up until the end where the writing failed.
So what do I do differently? Would doing the exact same thing but choosing to just rip the movie only and not any of the menus or other stuff work? (and which program do I do that in)? Any different settings I need to choose?
I also have a couple other burning programs on my computer of various versions (old CloneDVD, just downloaded DVDFab 4.0.1.0 but haven't ever used it, etc.) so not sure what I should use or do for this?

from browsing the thread it looks like dvdfab will do the dvd.
how to use it.open dvd fab. select main movie or full disc click start.when done tick finish
it will save to a file. then open shrink and browse your file to load and burn.

Has anyone looked over the thread before doing these last posts?
@uncdwm
DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 are supposed to be installed before installing RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0. If older versions of the software were used, I suggest deleting and reinstalling the software using the right versions. RipIt4Me needs to be installed last.
I did the Full DVD with RI4M and the movie played well. There was a disc error on the player, but pushing play started the movie which played properly. I'd suggest going with Movie and menus or movie only.
The last version of DVDFab is supposed to be doing the job. It was updated for the more difficult structural protections we're seeing. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm There's a new stable version just out, 4.0.1.0.
And the combo of AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter (decryption off) + FixVTS (Full DVD) cleaned the files to where any of the transcoders and encoders should process properly. Ratatouille can be done with a number of different programs.
@TheBrave1
Did you try using DVDFab HD Decrypter, open the files in Shrink, transcode, and burn with a supported burner? Using a transcoder, CloneDVD, to burn the transcoded output of another transcoder is a bit redundant. You're processing the files twice to burn once. If it works for you... good. But I'd suggest the short route for most users.

hi fellas. check this out. i've burned a couple of flics w/dvdfab, shrink and imgburn. on 1 dvd player it'll bring up the subtitles
automatically. on my other one it won't. previous to checking the flics
out on 2 different stand alone players i thought dvdfab or shrink was
contributing to the issue. now i know the flics are ok, but that i need to turn off the subtitles on the player that automatically plays them.
has anyone encountered this issue? if so how did you fix it? i used dvdfab in movie only mode, compressed w/shrink, and built and burned w/imgburn as i've been doing.
also other movies i've done the same haven't come out that way.
3 of the movies are spidey 3, old school w/will ferrell, and whirlpool.

I've had that happen once in a blue moon on 1 player and since it's not a regular thing I just turn them off w/ the remote.
If you don't want the subtitles at all then just uncheck them in Shrink.

call me weird, but i like subtitles and prefer them to auto start. On one DVD player it seems to autostart subtitles and on my other DVD player and the PS2 it doesn't...

You'll be glad you have the subtitles for your native language in case of hearing loss. You'll still be able to enjoy the movie.

You got that right garmoon, I won't even watch a movie without them, and thats of course because of some hearing loss, but even with perfect hearing, I love to watch many brit and irish films, and with many of them without subtitles or c.c., good luck.

i gave up and just opened the files i already had with dvdshrink, chose the main movie only, and burned. it worked fine but unfortunately i guess i lost subtitles, menus, and bonus features.
i'm off to get spiderman3 and shrek3 today - hopefully those will work easier. i have so many diff programs i don't know what i'm supposed to use anymore - is there a faq for the easiest most direct way? i guess i will plan on using dvdshrink by itself and crossing my fingers again.
btw, none of these dvd's play in my dvd player - only in my computer dvd players. what kind of regular dvd player do y'all use? mine is an onkyo which is older and probably just doesn't handle burned discs well. maybe oppo?

I still don't understand this, ok if your low of funds, or just like a challange to mess with those free programs cause of all the different configurations etc. I,m no techie and never will be, but if you have the funds and don't like those complicated programs, just buy clone and anydvd, I am totally computer stupid, and if I can run those two programs anybody can, and clone with anydvd is 99.9% succesfull all the time, and its not like those two cost a fortune, they don't.
Bottom line is, if your broke, ok, if you like to challanges with all those crazy different configs, fine, if those two don't apply, I'll never figure those people out.

Burning with freeware doesn't have to be complicated. A lot of people seem to try to make it that way. DVDFab HD Decrypter for bypassing copy protection, DVD Shrink for transcoding and minor editing, and ImgBurn for burning to DVD are about all that's needed. The DVDFab HD Decrypter is the key to getting good cleaned files to process. It's a gift from DVDIdle and is updated regularly. Lately it's been ahead of Slysoft's AnyDVD for getting updates for problematic copy protections. It's the same decryption software used in DVDFab Platinum (retail), it just doesn't have the Custom features. Those 3 programs take the complication issue out of the loop. They're easy to use.
Granted, AnyDVD on the fly is hard to beat for ease of use, but the ripper portion is seriously lacking. I'm not putting AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 down. If a person wants to spend the bucks, they're getting good programs. It's just that good programs are also available for free.
Though RipIt4Me was closed down, it still does many of the video releases. Talk about easy, it rips, processes for compliance, and sets the files up in Shrink. If the user has ImgBurn set as a supported burner, then all it takes is a couple of clicks in Shrink to finish the backup task.
@uncdwm
I have a Philips multi-format player that's cheap and plays just about anything round and shiny.
Spidey 3, region 1, was almost devoid of copy protection. It can be done with Shrink alone. I've not bought Shrek the 3rd yet, but I'll probably have to. LOL The kids like the donkey.

Shrek 3 has a little more than Spidey so Shrink alone won't cut it on this one.

I just did ocean's 13 with AnyDVD and NeroRecode. Then I did amazing grace with the new upgraded DVDFab and NeroRecode. There is NO comparison to the ease of use with AnyDVD with Recode or Clone. It's fun to have all the other programs as a last resort and use them from time to time; but fast and easy can't be beat. I'll say it again, set it and forget it. You have to come back and open the Fab's files in a transcoding or encoding -burning program! JM2C

lol, don't get me wrong guy's, if all those other programs is what wets your whistle go at it, I mean like I said before, if you can't afford an easy program like clone, anydvd than fine, I can understand that, I don't know of any other program out there that can make a copy any better than those two, and look what pacman suggests, just in your paragraph all that freeware or programs you need to go thru just to make the same thing clone can do with one click.
And again, I guess some people like the challenge of these step by step freebies or whatever, I know you say not complicated, to many maybe, to me, forget it, that 60 bucks for me was well spent not to struggle with all those others, and they can be a struggle.
I don't remember any movie clone and anydvd didn't master, and yes there was a couple we had to wait a week for an update like saw 3 I believe it was that was giving everybody nightmares, but after a week anydvd had an update and solved it, a one click set it and forget it.
And quality of the movies, I have 4 other programs I purchased threw the years and nothing beats the quality of those two, (clone,anydvd) and I've seen some of the quality from some of the programs you guys mentioned, nothing there that would make me go the extra effort.
Nah, nothing there that would even come close and make me think twice about that 60 bucks I spent, plus its a lifetime buy with all the upgrades free, it's definitely a no brainier for non savvy people like myself, and again, sure if you don't have or want to spend a couple bucks and don't mind a struggle in backing up some of the time, by all means, go for it.
I'm just making a suggestion to people out there like myself that are not savvy at all, that there are programs out there that you can use that wont give you nightmares, and clone, anydvd is definitely at the top, and no I don't work for any of them just in case somebody wants to throw that in lol.

lord almighty. it started w/ratatouille, and now we're up to ripping and burning proggies. use w/e works and when you come across 1 that doesn't throw it in another one.
freeware is great. you can't beat shrink, dvdfab hd, and imgburn for all your video tasks. i'm going to buy anydvd cause it is simple and quick.
clonedvd2 i'll toy w/while the trial period's still good. it's not really faster than shrink as far as set up. transcoding is about even. w/shrink all i do is click re-author and drag the title to the left and bam.
@uncdwm
a generic dvd stand alone player will play just about any format available. best buy's own Insignia is great and will play everything. about $29.99 the last time i checked. easy does it w/this new world of digital media. i burned myself out a lil while back as a result of burning itself.
like kurt russell said in that cop flic "dark blue" i think was the name. "i'm slow, but i get there."

Yeah I've not had a problem with any new releases, AnyDVD usually takes care of em.
This however gave me a little problem but not much of one . I ended up using RipIt4Me went slower when it was actually ripping , but nothing big or real troublesome.
Also I did this movie in full disc mode, not just main movie.

I did the Rat R1 movie the day it came out with AnyDVD and Recode, movie only, with nary a hiccup and it plays without an error. I have watched it and wasn't that bad a movie either. And if Recode did it I would think Clone would have done it. This is why I'm amazed at why so many people are having problems.
