Most factory DVDs nowadays are double layer. As for RipIt4Me, if you want to read back through the thread, it's been discussed in detail. Ratatouille seems to work best when ripped and the files processed for compliance.

I managed to copy Ratatouille perfectly with RipIt4Me. I then attempted to copy it with AnyDVD v6.1.9.3 and CloneDVD and it worked 100%.
Even passing it through DVDShrink and AnyDVD worked fine.

ahhhhh!!! cobras

i had no problem w/ratatuoile. used dvdfab hd w/shrink and imgburn. movie only.

spidey 3 however was ok except when it played the subtitles would pop up towards the end of the sentence. that was w/shrink alone. was in a hurry. i cleaned it up w/dvd fab hd and boom perfect copy.

i had problems w/"whirlpool"an old b&w flick on dvd now. it didn't want to rip w/dvdfab hd. that pathplayer screen popped up. i have to check into that function more as i have no idea what it's about.

anyway i used anydvd w/shrink and imgburn and bam. great copy. but it needed some cleaning also as the subtitles popped up again.

you know what. my experience period is what 1 proggie won't do another will. when i had 1-click it would do what shrink couldn't and vice versa.

p.s. i couldn't find a thread about the beta upgrade to dvdfab hd and what beta means so i posted it in my other thread. please excuse me for breaking any rules.

that being said what does beta mean? and is the trial version of anydvd which includes hd and blueray support the one i would get if i purchase it before the trial is up? i see they have 2 versions. plain anydvd and anydvd w/hd and blueray on their site.

I've never let a DVD copy defeat me before, but it's about to happen. I'm just about ready to give in the towel.

Ratatouille: I've decrypted successfully with RI4M and DVD Fab and AnyDVD. I've run those files through FixVTS and VOBBlanker.

No matter what I do, when I open DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, the program shuts down. I've turned off preview (although it opens anyway), I've turned off burn with Nero, I've turned off CSS. I've tried reauthoring the movie only. If it was in this thread, I've tried it.

It still shuts down DVD Shrink (or Nero) each and every time.

Before I lose it, what can I do to get this sucker to shrink and burn?

Beta is a test version - the developers will release these to have users try and work out any bugs before they release the official version.
Doesn't always mean a bad thing but I usually just wait for the official version unless I having problems.
For AnyDVD unless you have a blu ray burner and player I would just buy the 'regular' AnyDVD not the AnyDVD HD.

@certgirl
Download a trial of CloneDVD - give that a whirl with the files you've already ripped.
This the only movie that shuts down Recode and Shrink?

Yes, this is the only movie I've ever had this problem with, with Shrink and Recode.

I'll try the Clone option and report back in a bit.

Thank you!

@binkie

I used AnyDVD and Recode movie only and it worked. Did not shut down R1.

Keep up the great new job you're doing. :)

thnx binkie7. i was thrown off by that requirement of having a blu-ray burner and player on slysoft's site. i thought it meant that if you use blu-ray or hd blank media that you needed those requirements.

doesn't anydvd rip the hd or blu-ray dvds so you could burn them on regular dvd-r/+-rw blank media? or does it just crack them and leave them in hd and blu-ray format?

this might be a good suggestion to slysoft if it just does the latter. almost like converting pal to ntsc.

@garmoon
Txs!
My guess on why some can do it one way and others can't might be due to the different pc specs and keeping up on the maintenance - might be coming into play.

@dr_ml422
I haven't ventured into ripping or burning BluRay or HD cause it's a little too rich for my blood :)
The blank media alone is close to the cost of what an original BluRay or HD dvd costs.
To rip one yes you would at least need a drive that supports reading either format. This isn't standard in most pc's. Then you would somehow need to convert and shrink the format to fit on a dual layer disc. They each have a different format from the 'regular' original dvd's and hold approx 5x the amount of dual layer.

Region 2 Spidey 3, and Region 1 Condemned come to mind. They cause the same error. Shrink reads unable to compress, the language audio is wrong, and the comrpession reads 98.8 with the slider locked to the left. It's a simple fix, but it does stop the software up front. It's just a matter of ripping and then processing for compliance. That's the same method that works best for Ratatouille.

Tried CloneDVD. Got to 98% of creating the DVD files and then CloneDVD shut down.

I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Ok let's try this:
Reboot
Run a disc cleanup and disc defrag. Reboot again.
Already try running the files thru either vobblanker or FixVTS?
Now try one of the programs removing all but the ac3-6 (clone) or ac3-5.1 (shrink and recode)

This may be out in left field, but is your pc heating up? If programs are shutting down might indicate a heat problem. Is it full of dust bunnies, fans working?. Try what binkie said, I would go further and re rip the files before opening them in clone, recode, or shrink. You may have a corrupted rip.

I can't believe that people are having trouble with this movie.

OMG. I can't believe that took as long as it did, but I was finally triumphant. I finally shrunk and burned that boring movie. In the end, I don't know what the successful strategy was (I did everything, believe me) but it did finally get done. I haven't tested it fully (the burned copy) but I think it may work. And yes, now my kids can ruin this copy instead of the original.

I'm so glad the DVD didn't get the better of me. :-)

And once again, I thank all of you. You guys are the best, you've helped me before and I really appreciate all the tips that you give.

Cheers!

I am currently trying to copy Ratatouille.

dvd shrink alone was getting errors also.. so i ripped it to my HD with anydvd. now when i try to load dvd shrink 3.2 or 2.3 it stays open for about 5-10 seconds then it automatically closes?!?!

why wont it analyse it on my HD?

Quick question about this "Pathfinder" in DVDFab... is this the same as Pathplayer?

I am using DVD Fab Platinum 4.0.0.8 beta on WinXP Pro SP2, and could not get full disc to rip, but when I disabled Pathplayer, it finally ripped all the way through with no errors (target=hard drive).

Now before I get ready to burn it to DVD-R, I tried playing it in PowerDVD from the hard drive, everything loads ok, previews play all the way through, and then the movie's play menu displays. When I click "Play Movie" from the movie's menu, it starts to load, but then 5-7 seconds later it returns to the main menu again... bizarre!

I am afraid to burn to DVD-R now, because I am not sure if I will be copying this problem with it, or if it's something screwy with playing the movie from the hard drive, or even if it's something with PowerDVD... ??

Anyone else have this problem?

@binkie 7

thnx binkie. i forgot about the reading part. wouldn't it be something if any of the ripping proggies would make it so that it could convert and rip at the same time. stta.

@ anyone else having problems w/ratatouille. my came off sweet w/dvdfab main movie, shrink, and imgburn to build and then burn.

a suggestion would be to not get too hung up on all these reading errors and so forth. like i mentioned before what 1 proggie won't read or do another will. right now i'm trying out clonedvd2 and anydvd.
pretty good so far. if any problems i'll use shrink w/anydvd. any problems i'll go and use dvdfab w/either shrink or clonedvd2.

i set my output to file set always now. i build and burn w/imgburn.
i 99.9% of the time copy movie only.

i chucked nero a while back. if you did also use cclean and get rid of every remnant of it as it always leaves something behind.
do a disc clean up and defrag as suggested by binkie.

good luck.

Probably not relevent as this thread seems to be dealing with 4.7 GB media but I used the new version of DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.0.1.0 and ImgBurn to make a DL backup and it worked fine. There was a sale on Verbatim DL media a few weeks ago so just giving them a try now. Using the Build and Output mode on Device in ImgBurn sure makes the process easy. I did not run the ripped files through VobBlanker or FixVTS.

Sounds like 4010 may have adjusted for the structural protection being used with Ratatouille. It hasn't been a matter of decryption software reading the files as much as processing them for recording and playback. I could play one of the DVDs I burned on the PC, but it had an error when playing on the standalone. Not a critical error as I could click play and continue, but it missed the trailers. Trailers aren't a must, but I like having them available if I recorded them.

Anyone not caring about extras and menus should have found this release easy. Creaky was telling me not long ago that he found most of the troublesome releases easier when doing movie only. I found the backup for Full DVD easy after ripping the files to HD (AnyDVD + DVDD) and then processing with FixVTS. As I mentioned before, I've noticed a similarity in recent releases. The studios are once again using bogus files (often a large number of them) to confuse the software. Spidey 3, region 2; The Condemned, region 1; and Ratatouille, region 1 seem to have the similar protection and the best solution I found was ripping to the HD, processing with FixVTS and then using the transcoder or encoder software. RipIt4ME does the job, but in Full DVD it left the error I mentioned before. I guess in Full DVD it went a little too far (but the movie did play proterly).

1. Rip movie to hard drive using DVDFAB
2. Open DVDshrink . Instead of clicking 'open disk', click 'open file'.
3. Open the dvdfab file that you saved to your hard drive
4. Click 'Backup' and make sure you DISABLE video preview
5. Save the new backup to your desktop under a NEW name
6. Open 'CloneDVD' and click 'Write Existing Data'.
7. Click the NEW file on your desktop.
8. Burn and Voila
9. Hope this helps to those who were stuck like me.
