Hi their..smigs..Sorry but U can't just take a standard DVD Movie that U just bought & put it on a blank 4.3..Don't worry U will get their!!1st off U need a program like DVD Shrink,Clone DVD2,DVD2ONE,etc just to name a few of the better ones, these programs compress the Video to fit your Disc"with very little quality lose".NEXT IN ORDER FOR THESE TO WORK you'll need a small program called ANYDVD,or DVD43,these programs relieve the Video protection, that Hollywood imposes on us.next you will need a full head of hair, cause you gonna start pulling it out.JUST kidding..YOU'LL LEARN

An after thought just to keep U confused !!

It's common knowledge that out-of-the-box, DVD-R is a little more compatible than DVD+R. However, it appears that you can actually burn information onto DVD+R media to trick DVD players into thinking it's a regular DVD-ROM, thus increasing the compatibility. This is generally known as bitsetting, or modifying the DVD booktype, and is fairly interesting as well as fairly easy to do. I know a bunch of you out there have DVD burners now, so I figured this would be a useful bit of information.
ITS NOT REALLY ALL THAT HARD ONCE U GET THE JEEST OF IT
FORGOT! U will need a special program for burning like Nero,a good free one is DVD DECRYPTER..but U need to save your DVD movies in ISO Mod..We'll talk about that later,U got enough on your plate for now right.Look forward to hearing from U again, just as soon as U get a handle on some of the above mentioned..Have a good GOOGLE

Got a Plex 740A for Xmas from the wife and it came with 20 free TDK TTG02 disks. These are the worst disks, do not know if they are a bad batch but I think it they may have killed one of my drives, NEC 1300A that I have had for a long time. Put the first disk in the Plex and the darn thing started rumbling and grinding. So put another one in the NEC and same thing only it froze up the whole drive and had to power it off and then on to get the disk out. Needless to say I am telling all to stay away from these @*%* disks.

hehe, i can not re-emphasize my views on TDK's own manfactured media enough~ :) you probably have noticed arniebear buddy that whenever the TDK name is mentioned, i go OFF on my rant about how much i HATE/DESPISE Tdk's TTG01/TTG02/TTH01, etc discs...

now i am NOT the ONLY ONE here that has such a hatred for TDK's crap~ :) i'm sorry to hear of your misfortune in TDK's crappy discs killing one of your drives...that is one of the worst things that can happen, i am at a loss of words as MY various drives hold a sentimental value as well~ :)

now when i recommend everyone to stay away from TDK, perhaps YOU can assist me with YOUR experiences as well...

2 words: TDK sucks!

To say the very least. However, because I am a guy who buys two of what they like, I have a spare NEC 1300A. I know it is a slow drive but it works well and never fails me. Just cannot believe those TDK crap disks, they you used to be decent media. Should have known if they are giving you 20 free disks their is a catch. Live and definitely learn.

i am very much the same as you arniebear, i have 2 of almost every drive i currently use...can never know when one might unexpectedly DIE...it's always a safe precaution to have a "backup" no pun intended, of a drive as well~ :)

luckily for me, all my 1st drives (Liteon, Pioneer, Sony, Nec, Benq) are still working strong...while i had VERY POOR results with TDK media in the past on ALL my drives at the time, i STILL to this day will not let TDK near my burners...i will undoubtedly put a CMC MAG disc in my burners BEFORE i knowingly put a TDK media in to use...

if that doesn't speak volumes of my hatred, nothing will~ :)

have a good one buddy, i'm glad you have a spare NEC to use...it's too bad with your original though...is there ANY way you could get an RMA on it? most likely not, but worth a call to NEC? on a FEW occassions, i've gotten lucky with speaking to a kind customer rep. and they offered to replace the equipment even though it was POST Warranty date...it doesn't happen OFTEN, but it HAS happened to me...

Nah, the drive is over two years old, was the first one I ever bought. A BackPack USB and a real workhorse. I will give it a decent burial and sniffle a little at my loss, and join you in that hatred of TDK media.

It just so happens that Costco sells TDK as their brand of printable disc. A few months ago I bought 50 of each not knowing any better. The +R were CMC MAG. The -R were TTG02 or something like that and were only marginally better. I did manage to use them all eventually although a large number went into the trash. I probably won't be buying any more.

Thank you for the condolences if you are lusting after that BenQ my 740A is really a BenQ 1640, by using DVD InfoPro it booktypes fine and produces great quality backups.

Wow arnie,
sorry to hear you losing your NEC. I still use and love my 1300. Yes it's slow but that is one of it's forte. You gotta have one of those :)

@dr_no

Yeah it is slow at only 4x burn but it never fails and keeps chugging, I got over 1000 burns on that drive. Just returned the 740A too, the drive was messed up after those disks. It would burn a 4x okay but if you put it up to 8x it developed some kind of stutter noise from about 50% to 65%. Whatever was wrong with the TDK's they sure were killer, considering that Plex ran smoothly before I tried out the TDK disks. BB did not have anymore 740A's so I ended up at Circuit City and ordered another Plex 716A, should come tomorrow I hope, I got a big hole in my computer and the bios keeps complaining it can't find its PATA drive.

Bought these from OfficeMax, during the Black Friday sale(day after Thanksgiving). Bought 2 100 packs for $60 with a $15 rebate on each pack. Shiny tops, plain white color, and horrible quality. The discs were scratched, the glue was crappy, a large number of the discs were cracked starting from the middle and ending right at the beginning of the recording surface, and out of 200 maybe 120 were actually of any use. The other 80 wouldn't burn with DVDShrink or CloneDVD2. I kept getting media quality issues error or something to that effect.

Thanks for the input, glad to see this thread is getting back on track to media issues. Sounds like that was a bad purchase at any price. Not only does it sound like poor manufacturing, they may have gorillas in the shipping department. I haven't seen many forums putting Princo on their "quality" lists. Just a thought, any time a bulk purchase is made, open and randomly inspect and sample the purchase immediately following the purchase. That gives a chance to make a return instead of being stuck with junk. Some of us have learned the painful lesson that bad media at good prices is still a bad buy.
