See gang, this is what I'm talking about
Quote: Kool, I'm from Charlotte, NC too.
Anyway, Coyote, I've gone back through the posts, I've culled out 27 posters so far, all but 2 or 3 have given (somewhere in there posts) city, zip or cable company, I'll get that typed up and entered in a few minutes here, but the pattern I'm seing is a few of us here in Oklahoma/texas area, a few in the northeast (some in N.C. and GA) a few in the Chicago area (within a state or 2) a few in calif, 1 or 2 in Vegas, but nobody from anywhere like central u.s., N.D., Tenn., that could be attributable to the fact that the Panny's might not make it into the central U.S. most of what we're hearing is from major population areas. Or, it could be that the people in other areas aren't posting here cause they haven't found it yet.
Not sure, but I think it's kind of coincidental that we are in sort of specific areas through the country.

Well, true, but we've covered every continental time zone EXCEPT Mountain, and we're not seeing any from the northern/central plains states north of Oklahoma and Kentucky (save Wisconsin and Illinois).

You are correct: OKC,73107, Cox analog
Been getting U99's everyday. Channels OK, no listings, no ads.
I wonder how timdf is doing. We'll now have photoman2 to watch also to see if this "post" 970 firmware is an answer.

I bet alot of people are unaware of the problem with the TV Guide and are clueless of this forum. I would bet the bank that it is a bigger problem than the ones that have noted it on this board. Some people aren't technically inclined like others and have no idea where to get support from besides Panasonic and hence are getting the "Well your HDD is bad so take it in and get it serviced." or "Your PCB is bad so take it in to be serviced.".
Ohh by the way, forgot to include some info earlier with my zipcode

UPDATE ON POSSIBLE TVGOS WORKAROUND
Doesn't work.
U99 today after 5 happy days of using a neighboring zip code. Must have been a coincidence. Talked to Cheryl, she punched up my zip and it DOES work in her database, she wasn't sure why it dissapeared from the TVG website.

rekoj: I don't want to kill your HT1500 by doing this, but...the DVD recorder in that home theater package MUST be essentially similar to the DMR-E80 and E85. *IF* (and I state IF) some people have success with this new firmware, perhaps the firmware for the E85 will work for your unit, as the E80, E85, and the one in the HT1500 package have 80GB hard drives...not sure what other features are similar. I'm sure flashing with something not meant for your unit has the ability to render it completely DEAD, *but* if you're desparate, it's returnable to where you bought it, and the new firmware proves to be effective...just a thought.

Just had another U99 show up after a full week of perfect operation with the new firmware - thus I conclude the problem still exists and the new firmware I loaded is ineffective.
I'm right out of ideas and figure we have to all rely on Cheryl to help sort this mess out....
Sure puts me off buying another DVD recorder with this feature for the foreseeable future - I was about to upgrade my entire home theatre system, but that's on hold right now.....

timdf: Thanks for the update--so the "new" firmware DOES NOT fix the TVGOS problem. I wonder if I'll last a week without it.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
Whatever happened to anncoates who lives somewhere in New York state and has NEVER had our U99 problem? If she still looks at this forum, I'd like to get info like her exact location, unit production date, etc. to have a "control" who has this unit but no U99s.

O.K., here's what I go, lots of holes in it, will update as we go along, if needed, I may pass it on to Cheryl, ... I might give her a call, Saturday I did a CH up/dn reset, got me listings up through tuesday, and never updated from there, with daily (nightly) u99's, Last night, did another CH up/dn reset, I'm betting I'll get a channel lineup today when I get home, adn Promo's, then tonight, I'll get listings for days 1,2,3 and 8, and loose the Promos, then the next night,(will be friday night, when I get up saturday morning) will give me a u99, and no more data except what was there before going to bed friday night.
Anyways, heres the list, not sure how the editor here will work, gonna cut and paste. ......

After last night channel up/down reset at 10:39PM and turning off the unit, I found the unit with U99 in the morning. At 1:40AM everything was OK; so it must occured between 1:40AM and 6:15AM.
No channel lineup and listings. I am lucky that I already have another DVD recorder - DMR-E80H. It does not have TVGOS, and I have no those problem with it.
Im summary, it looks that from a variety of DVD recorders only a few new models of PANASONIC are affected by this error.

A nice try, but ...
Tim's firmware installed in my 85H, but seems to be having no effect on the U99's, which are back this morning. TV schedule is complete, via standard antenna connection.

rekoj,
If you're used to not having a TVGuide from using your other unit, disable the TV Guide from being downloaded to your new unit. Instructions appear several times in this thread. I disabled the TV Guide weeks ago and have had no U99 since then.
There is a poster who is having a problem with the menu to perform an Auto Channel Scan (i.e. disables the TV Guide download from that point forward unless you lose power or reset manually). His Auto Channel Scan menu option was greyed out. That may be due to the fact he is trying to control a cable box (if so, that is quite a stupid design "feature" by Panasonic). I don't have a cable box.
That menu option may also be greyed out if your unit has downloaded the TV Guide already, so you'd have to reset the unit to re-enable (i.e. "un-grey-out") the Auto Channel Scan menu selection.

RX7Fan,
I have E500H and Comcast.
After resetting my unit 2 days ago using ch-up/ch-down and removing power I didn't get U99 since than, but still no data/no adds. I notice that my unit changing channel to channel 40(MSNBC on Comcast over here) about every minute.

Bwooley and I are both in the Walnut Creek area under Astound Cable, my zip code is 94597. Astound only covers Walnut Creek and the Minneapolis area.
For those in contact with Cheryl - has she been directed to this forum? It would make sense for her to responding directly to all of us and askiong everyone on the forum questions at the same time.
For those who are having trouble turning off your TVGuide - try looking in your manual, it's fairly simple and easy to follow. You will not get any more U99's, but you won't have any listing information either. If you lost your manual, I belive you can download it from Panasonic in pdf format.

GRCompton, ... That is strange, Walnut Creek, and Minneapolis in california, I thought they were in Minesota .... Like Little House on the Prarie. :)
and what unit do you and Wooley have? I'm trying to keep track of that also, .... If you have something else like Coyote24 and I do, (I've got a GE TV that has "Guide+" , we're trying to track the data on the second TVGOS device too, a comparison if you can.

Here's some info on my experiences today in case it helps:
1) I did the ch up/dn reset last night and loaded timdf's firmware update.
2) This morning, I had no U99, I had ads for the first time, but no listings.
3) Sometime mid-morning (I think about 10AM), while in standby, I got the U99. My ads are gone too.
For the last several days, I've observed that the late night TVGUIDE update does not produce the U99, but the mid-morning update does. Whatever is sent mid-morning but not during the late night update seems to be the culprit.

Had U99s 3 or 4 times a day for last 2 weeks of Sept and first week of October. Used CH-up CH- down and then 30 sec with plug out of wall to reset.
Had 2 more U99s as I went thru the setup process that first day.
Now 5 days and have 7 days of programing fully populated and more adds than I have ever seen before. Live north of Boston Zip 01887
Have not had a U99 for 5 days straight and have even recorded using the TVGOS schedule without a U99. I think I am finally fixed.

I notice that it is two Boston-area posters who are reporting "tentatively fixed" with a firmware update and reset.

I'm in Boston and it's not fixed yet. I did a hard reset Tuesday. So far it hasn't gone to U99 however it still doesn't list any of the TV program (just the channel lineups) I also do not have any ads anymore.
I sent Cheryl screenshots of the code this morning.
