I have put on sporster & the cabels, bouquet and service files on my box. If I back this up via the TV screen it creates an image. Can I flash this onto my mates dbox and give him a box just like mine, i.e. does it save the sporster and all my settings?
I planned on doing this but was having trouble, I ended up putting on sporster and the rest separate. I am getting another box from germany so will have to flash sporster anyway, so I do not see how it would be more difficult for me since I will have to flash an image anyway.
The files are pretty big but it would be nice if you could get a "sporster1.7-1x-dublin.img" file.
I had more trouble trying to get files on the box since I never used FTP stuff before. Flashing was the easier bit for me, just took 15mins to transfer.
Yes! You can do exactly that. Back up your image and flash your mates box with your image. As long as you're both in the same area, he shouldn't have to even scan. And this is a project I'm hoping to get into play, so that people can indeed download a "sporster1.7-1x-dublin.img" as you say, for example..
This is being worked on by myself and Tam over at http://techno-source.co.uk/phpbb/index.php but everybody's contibution is vital. Therefore, please email me your image (once working without problems), to dboxme@googlemail.com stating what box it's for (Nokia / Sagem / 1x / 2x) and also the city/area you're in..

OK, will do. When I go into the option to back up I am presented with lots of options. Which one is the one I should go for? I made one and IFA said it was the wrong size, it accepted another one but I had wrong IP settings (or something). After that I flashed sporster and manually put the files on as we didnt have time to wait another 15mins.
I have a sagem 1x and TV3 and some other stations can be jittery sometimes. My mate got a sagem so I will find out if his is jittery too, he lives a mile away. If it is still jittery I will try out some other images first as I would not like to release an unstable version.
Also I just noticed setanta golf is now being picked up (well the subscription screen). This is listed in "others" in my bouquet under the name "flaunt" I figure they just used that channel to replace flaunt. I can pick up the channel but its number is 141. I cannot seem to be able to bring this back out of "others", therefore I cannot change the channel. I would like it grouped with the other sport channels. Am I best playing around with the files on a PC? or is there a way to do it via the TV screen.

To back up the image, choose "read one partition", then "without bootloader"..
Regarding arrangement of channels, try using your web browser and just type in the ip of your box. This will load the web interface and allow you to make amendments from there..

Hi,
First thanks to all who contributed and especially those who maintain this great thread.
I got a Nokia DBox2 from Germany and I am in N*L cable area in Dublin. It came flashed with Sportser 1.10.
In the service scan section the provider's were all German "Kabel" this and that. I could only get 5 channels despite putting in the irish cable.xml (and service.xml) into var/tuxbox /config/zapit. I also tried cable.xml in var/tuxbox /config/
I am unplugging the box after each FTP config change.
I reflashed with Sportster 1.7 as suggested by Benifa
(a saint, :) ). Now I get a choice of three providers, Bruteforce for UK, cable 6887 and cable 69??. Can get 52 channels but not RTE or other local channels
Changed the image to Commando 6, very long weekend via kein system. Still only getting same providers as with the Sportser 1.7 image. Can get 62 channels but not RTE or other local channels
I have seen reference in this thread to selecting the provider N*L but that is never in the provider option.
What am I doing wrong?
Driving me nuts.

Hi Setanter, let's try and get you sorted..
The reference you've seen for the "Irish" cables.xml is one that I created by merging others that I came across, to produce one, handy file. It is actually a universal cables.xml for all UK and Irish providers. However, if you're on NTL in Dublin you need to scan on Sym6887, and the "CableUK Sym6887" option that's in the cables.xml of the other images you've tried will be fine. Nevertheless, the cables.xml in question can be found here:
http://www.ifawilson.com/downloads/Dbox/cables.xml
To download the 2x Sportster 1.7+ UK05 image that contains this cables.xml and has been always successful in Waterford, click here:
http://www.ifawilson.com/downloads/Dbox/...+%20uk05_2x.exe
Alternatively, try Sadam34's image. He is in Dublin (though I forget where abouts), and he says this image is working and has all channels:
http://www.ifawilson.com/downloads/Dbox/...Dublin%202x.exe
Lastly, after you've got all your channels but they're in the wrong order, transfer this bouquets.xml:
http://www.ifawilson.com/downloads/Dbox/bouquets.xml
Good luck!..

I think on my sagem the cables and service were in different folders. When you flashed on sporster1.7 I think it will put on english settings, then you need to put on irish verisons of cables.xml and services.xml.
AFAIK the providers are in the cables.xml file and you will need to put it back on (I think it will disappear when you reflash). I tried rescanning mine the other day and nothing really happened.
This is what Benifa is talking about, and irish version of sportster where all the files, cables.xml & services.xml will be irish.

Well, almost. Actually the said cables.xml is for all providers in the UK AND ROI. As an Englishman living in Ireland, I have mixed interests - lol..

It looks like you never understood the way the scan is working. With a brutefore scan all defined frequencies are scanned. With a network scan only the default frequency is scanned and that frequency hold all informations from the provider about the other frequencies in use. You get with a network search exactly the frequencies the provider defined for that aera. With a brutefore scan the frequencies can slightly be different from the real frequencies.
In the irish cables.xml there are network scans for all irish areas defined. The bruteforce part is only a second chance if the network scan fails. You should always try a network scan first,
Upload the irish cables.xml to /var/tuxbox/config, reboot the box and choose your area in the scan menue.
In some UK images the cables.xml go to /share/tuxbox.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the prompt replies.
I didn?t realise there were different incarnations of an image file, I suspect that?s where I am going wrong. I will try them tonight, let you know.
As a matter of interest what files should you see in var/tuxbox /config/zapit? Should it just be services.xml?
Does the cable.xml go in var/tuxbox /config? Does it matter what other files are in this directory?
If you gotten a file such as ?6887_services.xml? of the internet would you have to rename it to services.xml in the var/tuxbox /config/zapit directory?
The site http://techno-source.co.uk/phpbb/index.php looks really helpful, wish I found it earlier

@Setanter
If you use the scan feature you don't need a services.xml. The scan create one for you.
In a sportster the cables.xml go /var/tuxbox/config. Over write the old one.
Reboot your box, go to the scan menue, move the highlighted bar to the provider line and select with the ok button what you want.

var/tuxbox/config/zapit contains services.xml and bouquets.xml
var/tuxbox/config/ contains cables.xml
Your ?6887_services.xml? file from the internet, I'd say yes, it's probably indeed a services.xml, so rename it as such and put it in the directory as above. Don't forget to refresh channel list..

A copied services.xml makes only sense if someone is not able to get scanning proper working.

This is true. It is always advisable to scan your channels yourself, which will result in you producing your own services.xml, thus removing the need to use anybody else's..

Can someone explain to me how to use the locked and hidden flags in the bouquest xml file?
Is there a password to unlock locked sections? If so, what is it, and can you set your own?
How do you unhide hidden sections?

Parental control pin is the password and if parental control is not enabled its not possible to lock bouquets.
You unhide hidden bouqets the same way to hide it via the bouquet editor or via the web interface.

That's the nub of my problem, no matter what image I loaded the providers in that highlighted bar are not "local" eg N*L etc but I am working through the suggested solutions,
Thanks again

I tried the NTL bruteforce scan on mine. picked up all the channels but nearly all were jittery. Changed VH2 to MTV flux, and picked up stetanta golf no problems.
I compared the service file with my working one and noticed the frequencies were all different. so 35500000 was 34750000 on the ones I checked were out by the same amount, 750000.
My mates TV3 worked this morning but he had a stronger signal than mine. My channels seem to be out in groups, and I see the service file assigns frequencies to each group of channels, and I think it might be just one frequency that is wrong for me. i.e. maybe I could manually edit the service file trying a new frequency on that particular group.
I manually edited my bouquet file and was able to put setanta golf back up with the other sports channels. I still cannot get this to be editable using IE

Had to do a channel scan and got 136 channels but crucially not the RTE's and TV3, which were there with the dublin image. Repeated the channel scan with IE Bruteforce, still no joy so I reflashed to the Dublin image
I think the moral of this weekend is if buying a debugged and flashed box not to assume it is flashed, even for the UK. Thanks again for all the help

Oh boy, which file did you delete?
You have to delete the file scan.conf in the folder /var/tuxbox/config at a sportster and pull the plug. After replug a sportster recreate the scan.conf with Kabel Deutschland as default provider and that name is included as place holder in the irish cables.xml. Only with a valid provider name in the cables.xml you can select other entries. If UK sym6687 was previously selected a simply overwrite of the old cables.xml and a reboot is needed.
Reboot means pressing the up arrow and standby button at the front panel simultaniously until the display changes. If the display changes release both buttons.

Use the irish cables.xml and do a scan via NTL cable Dublin if you live in Dublin.
