Hi Smudger, is that link in reply to my Dbox 1 Dilema? I think all I need is to get an old modem and modem cable and I should be able to flash it no problem?

There is another thread regarding dbox1 on this forum - can't remember where it is, but search for it. Basically the dbox1 is 100x more hassle than it's worth. My advice would be to try and get as much money for it as you can on your favourite auction site and put the dosh towards a dbox2.
Anybody got any better pearls of wisdom?

Anyone know what these cam and key files I hear about are for?
Also, if I want to try and flash with a UK 1.08 sportster image, what do I need to do to get it working? Do I just take my scan.conf, services.xml, cables.xml and bouquet files from my current 1.7 dublin sporter image and FTP them over once flashed with 1.08?
Having a couple of issues (see previous post) with 1.7 image.

Maybe a hardware fault. If the memory for the digital picture is faulty at some bytes you get garbage at that position at the screen.
If could be also a problem with a hardware driver. Try first a other image.

I got both of my sagem 1x's working fine in the end. Will post a more detailed post but basically mgb17's dublin scan worked. I combined benifas and mgb17s cable files, so it now contains about 12 services. For me I got dublin and one of the UK ones to work for me (I have 2 UK 6887s, only one works well).
I have just forwarded the bouquets, cables, service and the full pacinosporster1.7-1x-dublin.img onto benifa. It should be on his site soon, if you are in a rush pm me your email and I will forward them to you too.

Including radio - yes, it would be about 160 channels. Sorry I've not been around for a while lads, had things on..
Ruprect I'm going to upload your files when I get home - thanks for your contribution..
There's another forum actually, I've been spending most my time online there, it's http://techno-source.co.uk/phpbb/ check it out..

I get 184 "things", 141 TV stations, some radio and some data. There are about 110 "watchable" channels on NTL, i.e. lots are crap like QVC, bloomberg & all the euronews ones.
If you are on NTL you should be able to just flick through the pace box and this shows you all the channels you will get.
If people are having trouble, try all the scans you can, even if not for your region, and in slow and fast scan mode. With one scan I got more watchable channels using fast scan, but less channels picked up overall, e.g. ~70 perfect vs, 40 perfect +100 jittery. It might tide you by until you get it sorted.

It probably only came with UK scan options on it, which may not work for you. have you got the cable to load on a new cables.xml file?
try benifas or mgb17s

It needs to be a crossover ethernet cable. This is not the usual one you might have. A crossover cable will usually say crossover on it.
You can get them cheap on ebay. It is worth having if you are into computers at all, it is handy being able to connect to a pc with the box.

If your mates is all working OK and you have the same type of box he can just backup his image, this will contain all his cables files & tv sorting etc. Then you can simply flash this to your box. It also helps since he can reload it on his if it ever goes wrong. It is handy if you want to play about with settings, if something goes wrong you just reflash, sort of like the windows "restore to last known good configuration"
To do this he needs to press dbox, then go to back up the image (might be in backup/restore), choose "read one partition", then "without bootloader"
This will make a img file in a folder, usually tmp, this is about 8mb. This is then transfered onto yours using IFA with no need for any other FTP software.
If you do get it working forward on the image file to benifa at dboxme@googlemail.com stating where you are, what box, what image, what cable provider
he is compling a list of known working images for different areas so people can just download them and transfer with IFA with no need for FTP software.
