If that doesn't work, double click the first numbered rar file. That should show you everything that's compressed in the rar file. Right click the iso, and click "extract to the specified folder." Select a destination, and it should decompress the iso file.
@ Wolf69 You should get an iso and an mds file when ripping the game to your HD. I've always gotten those two files when ripping with DVD Decrypter. Maybe you tweaked a setting or something.

@ Joel23 Because the first file contains all the info, the others contain different parts of it as well. The first file puts it all together so to speak, hence why you extract it and not the other files. They can't function without one another.
Wolf69 Check your file split settings. It's under Tools-->settings-->ISO Read Mode-->File Splitting. Mine is set to auto. It shouldn't matter, when you load the mds file, it'll combine the two files. Same with Alcohol 120%. If you have the seperate image box set to 4GB's, but when you load the mdf file, it'll combine them. The 100 and 101 files are the iso. Load the mds file into DVD Decrypter and burn the game. Are you using Swap Magic or a modchip? You'll need to shrink the game to DVD-5 if you're using it with Swap Magic. If the process is too confusing, then find a torrent for a DVD-5 version of GOW.

What modchip do you have in your chipped PS2? If it supports DVD-9 backups, you won't have to rebuild anything.

I know I have to rebuild it.But My Apache 2 won'r extract the second layer.You have to use apache 2 to extract both layers.
The files must be placed together and fully
extracted (not in .iso form). But I get a error that says it has to be registered.Also I don't have pak2 file from layer 1. Only a pak 1 file.That Sucks.Help!!! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/174869

@Joel23: Sounds like the one who hosted the game for download has already rebuilt it. It would be easier to host rebuilt games rather than the initial images, because the rebuilt image will be smaller, thus faster to upload.
@2IIPack: The MDS file contains the structure info of the .ISO file. When burning an image back with DVD Decrypter after having created an image with DVD Decrypter, you can point to either the MDS file or the ISO file. The MDS file will point DVD Decrypter to the ISO file automatically.

Hey
I ripped Xenosaga using your guide, everything turned out perfect except CD 3 being 2.0 gig instead of 1.32. I burned it anyways and up untill i have to switch to CD 3 everything worked out nicely, when i do switch to CD 3, the cut-scenes are old ones that ive already seen and the game crashes after it displays them, I did try rebuilding it all over ceveral times, but i cant get CD 3 to work, always turns out 2.0 gig or 1.9 gig etc etc, is there anything i can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance

So after using DVD Decrypter to put the game on my harddrive, I can then delete the ISO Image to save GB on my harddrive?

@2IIPack,
Hey 2IIpack,
It's Phaser1 here, aka Digital9x. When you create your ISO using DVD Decrypter, don't delete it just yet. You have to decide 3 things. They are as follows:
1. Does the game need rebuilding?
2. Can I just burn this game right out?
3. Do I want to patch this game to play online if the option is there, whether I've had to rebuild it or not already. (You patch the final image to keep the process a routine to follow).
Instance 1:
If you discover you need to rebuild the game, do so. Then, burn your final image, and test it on your PS2. If all is well, then you can delete the original and the final ISOs that you created, as well as, you will want to delete the folder to which you extracted your files to from the image. Recall, you have to extract the files to a folder, then add them to CD/DVD Gen. Make sure you delete all three to regain your hard-drive space.
Instance 2:
If the image is relatively small (1-2 gigs), you already know you can just do a rip-and-burn. In other words, you create the ISO, then burn it right back. NOTE: If you are using high quality DVDS, (such as most any non-USA made DVD brand like Verbatims - go figure me saying that and I live here in the USA), you don't always have to rebuild the game, if the initial image files come close to 4.38 gigs. I've learned my lesson there all to well when using off-brand dvds. In any event, do your rip-and-burn of the image, test it, then delete the image file and the MDS file created by DVD Decrypter. Just make sure your game plays correctly first. Don't just watch the opening intro, test the options in the menu, and you might even play the game for about a minute or so.
Instance 3:
Many games are online capable. If you want your archive of the game to be network ready to battle it out with the masses over the internet, first decide if you can do a simple rip-and-burn (such as with MVP 06 NCAA Baseball) or if you have to rebuild the game (such as with Star Wars Battlefront II). Once you determine that, patch the image you will end up burning (programs like Windip and DNAS_ID do this). Once you burn your game, test it as I've stated before, then delete the ISO (if just a simple rip-and-burn), or delete the initial ISO, final ISO, and the extracted-to folder of the image files.
So many people get wrapped up in archiving their games, that they get so involved in the process, they run into a brick wall when their computers say "virtual memory low", or "insufficient disc space on volume so and so." The problem goes back to the non-deleting of the image files that have been created for the other games. Hard-drive space can go as quick as items on the McDonald's Dollar Menu when it comes to archiving games.
In conclusion, whether you are ripping from an original, or downloading your games, consider my three instances, burn and test your games, and delete the image for that game right afterwards. The more hard-drive space you keep available, the faster the ripping and burning process goes. Push your machine to the limits by crowding it with a bunch of ISOs at one time, and expect that computer to become sluggish.

I see so digital9x lives lol. Just to add to his post, always use good media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Just because a game is 1-2GB's doesn't mean it won't need rebuilt. Theoretically it shouldn't, but in practice, some games just run smoother when rebuilt (EA sports games are a well known example). If you can't get a game working with Swap Magic, and the media isn't the problem try rebuilding. As I often see Sulaim say "rebuilding won't hurt anything."

windows ME is fat32 file system,iso image limited to 4gb only,so you need the windows XP,or NT; NTFS file system,the iso image can over 4gb.

@Tokijin
Yeah, I'm still around. I love this stuff!! I'm just making sure I watch what I post. I have a bad habit of giving everything away!!! It's the techie blood in me - lol. Anyway, I hate that I lost my Digital9x name, but I'm still the same person.
I agree with "rebuilding doesn't hurt." However, every time I mentioned that, I was dogged for telling newbies to do it, because of the length of time it takes to get it done. Me, I'm a rebuilder, but lesser of one when using top notch media.
I also patch my games for online play. There are three games I've came across that don't seem to accept the patch correctly. They are Project Snowblind, Full Spectrum Warrior, and Socom 3. That's when using Windip though. I have thought about rebuilding all three games, and sliding in the patched DNAS files at that time. If anyone has successfully done that, and got the games to go online, shoot me a message.

Well Socom 3 is a waste of time, even if the DNA's are patched correctly, an online server checks for copy protection in the BCA area (area where commercial burners can't write), so you can't play a backup of it online. The other two I dunno, I haven't seen anything about them.

When using Windip 1.7, after it does the "verify", it reports that the DNAS files for both Project Snowblind and Full Spectrum Warrior are "offset." That seems to be the common denominator between the two.
I did try to be slick and use DNAS_ID to patch the files, then brought up Winimage to inject them in place of the originals. However, with those two games, Winimage reported "disc image full."
To ensure my "inject" option still worked, I recreated one of my other games, and slid in a DNAS file using that option, and it worked. So, I concluded this issue is something deeper than I know about with those two games.
The only other solution I know, which I haven't taken the time to do yet, is to rebuild the games, and when adding the files to CD/DVD Gen, add the patched files, in place of the original DNAS files. Seems like a reasonable back door solution. However, I haven't gotten an accurate definition as to the term "offset" that WinDip 1.7 reports. Any clues or info on that?
