@2IIPack,
The ISO and MDS file go hand-in-hand. Once you have created your ISO, you are done with it. You have either told DVD Decrypter to point at the ISO, then burn it. Or, you told DVD Decrypter to point at the MDS file, which will automatically point to the ISO that matches the MDS name, then will burn it.
If you delete the ISO, and leave the MDS, you have nothing but a file that contains the outline (like a for a book report) of the ISO file. Thus, if you delete the ISO, and leave the MDS, you have deleted all the chapters of your book, leaving just the "outline" or "table of contents."
In conclusion, the MDS file is not the game. The ISO is the game. You can safely delete the MDS file, and leave the ISO, if for some reason, you want to leave the image of the game on your hard-drive. The MDS file is not needed. However, leave too many ISO files on your machine, and your computer will become sluggish and slow, because ISO files in abundance, eat up hard-drive space quickly.

Thanks man? We need some more people here like you who really makes things easy for everyone and who also knows exactly what their talking about. Yeah I know that the ISO eats up the space on the harddrive like woa. My dad is talking about getting me a External harddrive for my computer in my room or like a 260GB Internal one. Thus, I wouldn't have to keep putting the games on the computer in the Entertainment/Den.

I enabled my DMS4 EZI Pro to play DVD+R DL and my 50 cent game still does not play. Do I need to patch my iso with the Toxic patcher to may it play? If I do will the game play on my friends modded PS2 that has a Dou 2 SE? I thought that when I bought the DMS4 chip it would play DVD+R DL.

@2IIPack,
I have a word of caution about that external hard-drive. External hard-drives can increase your burn time from 15 minutes to that of 45 minutes. Most USB connected hard-drives that I've came across, have promoted this lengthened burn time.
Data traveling through the USB cable isn't as fast as it passing through the IDE cable inside your machine. My recommendation is that you ask your dad to see if he will purchase an additional hard-drive that will be "internal."
All you do, is set the jumpers on the new drive to "slave." The jumper settings are found on the sticker on the hard-drive itself. Then, looking inside of your computer, find a free bay to slide the drive into, and fasten it down with the four screws that come with it. You fasten it on the sides of the drive (two screws on each side).
Then you locate the 2nd IDE cable (grey cable in your machine). It's the one the hard-drive pre-installed is not connected to. Connect the inner most black connector on that cable (there are 3 connectors on an IDE cable - one connects to motherboard, then a middle, then one on the end). You goal it so connect the 2nd drive to the middle black connector on the 2nd grey cable.
Finally, connect a free white tipped power cable to it, and you are done. Put the case back on the machine, connect the power cord, and follow the software installation instructions that came with the drive. Or, refer to the online instructions for that drive, prior to connecting that drive. In some cases, you have to download the software for the drive prior to installing it physically. The software is tranferred to floppy disk. Just refer to instructions either with the accompanying manual, or online instructions that are posted.

@ Brewgod23 You did enable DVD+R DL support, correct? You could try some Verbatim DVD+R DL media, that's what I use for my DVD-9 games. I've backed up God of War, Xenosaga Ep.1, MGS2, and GT4 on Verbatim DVD+R DL media, and they all play perfectly with my Matrix Infinity. Memorex DL Media is manufactured by Ritek and one other company, it's not on par with Verbatim DL media by a long shot. Toxic Dual Layer patcher is only for modchips that support DVD-9 backups. The DMS 4 EZI Pro auto patches DL backups. I don't believe the Duo2SE supports DL backups. Try getting some Verbatim DL media. I get a 3 pack at Wal-Mart for $12.
@ Joel23 What is with the 23? Lol. The first part of rar files combines all the info and puts it together for extraction, however the other parts contain part of the game iso as well. You can't extract the first one without the complete file, because of a piece of the game data is still missing. You'll get an error message if you try to do so. The whole file must be present.
@ Wolf 69 The free version of Apache 2 (is there even a pay version?) extracts DVD-9 games version fine. I don't know if you got the right one. There's also Apache software which pertains to servers and what not, make sure you have the one that's for extracting DVD's. Get it here:
http://www.sksapps.com/mis/Apache.rar or here (right click save as):

@ Auron Maybe your burner doesn't support booktyping/bitsetting. Is your firmware up to date?
53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
Booktyping with Nero and DVD Decrypter: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
92. Q. What is firmware and why should I care?
A. Firmware as defined by AD:
Sort of a "operating system of the hardware", an embedded instruction set built-in or flashed into a hardware equipment, such as a router, CDR drive, DVD-ROM drive, washing machine, etc.
Newer Firmware can unlock new features that are sealed on certain DVD Burners like booktyping, or simply enhance your existing Burner by improving burn quality and media compatiblility. Keeping your Firmware up to date is essential to ensure quality burns and maximum functionality from your DVD Burner. When flashing your burner with new Firmware, be very careful. Make sure you shut down all programs running in the background, the DVD-ROM drive is empty, and you follow all the directions included in the Firmware download exactly. A bad flash can fry your DVD Burner. Proceed with caution. You can find all the Firmware you'll ever need here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

Tokijin, The DMS4 EZI Pro does support DVD-9 backups. Why can't I use the patcher? What does this patcher do to the iso?

@tokijin I looked around a little and found a hacked firmware that enables my Burner to use the booktype setting. Can i somehow check if the booktype setting was a success after i burned the dvd?
I am not really sure, because my Games still won't play even though i followed every step in the guide. At the moment i use Ritek R02/03 media which may be the reason so i'll try using Verbatim. Correct me if i'm wrong.^^

@Tokijin
Hey buddy,
You mentioned above that one of the other folks' drive was able to booktype. I've been trying to find out if mine will. I don't have any +R's at the moment to test it, but I'd hate to buy them to find out my drive doesn't.
I did discover that my HP 640i drive (though, after the flash update, it put it at a 640c) is actually a Benq product, just with an HP label. I wrote Benq about my drive, but they directed me to HP. HP hasn't replied as of yet.
Do you know, off hand, if my drive can booktype? And if so, is it using the Benq option?
Thanks,
Phaser1 (aka Digital9x)

Something does not make sense. I use to paly my 50cent backup using Magic 3, now I installed the DMS4 EZI Pro using ToxicOS v0.41 and now I can't play it on the same PS2 machine. It is the same laser, same media. Now you say I have to change my media to Verbatum?

@ Brewgod23 You booted a DL disc with Swap Magic? That's not possible, Swap Magic doesn't support Dual Layer games. If anything you rebuilt it or downloaded a version that was rebuilt. Well you can ponder why it doesn't work, or try better media. The choice is yours.
@ Phaser1 This an excerpt from a review of your drive:
Here's the Link: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/optical/hp640.html
Let's review peculiarities of this recorder with various media types. This drive records DVD+R DL only at 2.4õ., it automatically sets Book Type to DVD-ROM, which is necessary for maximum compatibility with old DVD-ROM drives and consumer electronics. DVD+R DL record quality is good, consumer electronics had no problems with detecting and reading all recorded discs.
The drive can speed up to 16x when recording DVD+R discs. The recorder uses the CAV technology to burn DVD+R discs at 16õ. At lower speeds the drive switches to the P-CAV mode.

You need to copy and paste/place or extract ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your C:\Windows\System32 folder
If C: is your hard drive, if D: is your hard drive, then put in D:\windows\system32 folder
Once you've done the above, you should not have any more errors/problems.
Good luck!!

Ok now i have a problem. I just tried burning Devil May Cry 3 on a Verbatim MCC, since i thought the media could make the difference. BUT the game still won't play even if i try everything in the guide or is there a problem with the firmware of the DMS4 pro se, i think it's the 0.6 upgrade. Anyway i can't find a another reason why it doesn't play.
Pls help me! I already failed 9 DVDs.
The Chip should be working, since i can disable and flash it with a cd-r.
BTW: the PS2 is telling me after a few seconds of black screen to insert a PS2 CD/DVD-Rom
Edit: It really was the firmware. I got the game to play using the toxic firmware. You should say that at the beginning of the guide, would have saved me a lot of trouble.;)Anyway thanks for the help.

Glad you got it working. I've stated several times on AD that you need Toxic OS to boot/backups imports for the DMS 4 Pro. Not be a smart ass, but there are no less than two questions about this in my PS2 FAQ. If you'd read it, you would've realized this. There's also a Modchip FAQ in my sig which explains it. So in the future, utilize the resources AD has to offer. Anyway not trying to be a spoilsport, but you said I should mention this more clearly, I mentioned it all over AD, you just didn't see it. Cheers!
41. Q. I have a DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity and I can't play backups, what's going on?
A. You need to flash the chip with the latest firmware. Download it, burn to CD-R using the Alcohol 120% burning guide posted earlier in the thread, put it in your PS2, and follow the onscreen prompts.
Matrix Firmware: http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=news Note: There are Matrix Infinity clones out there called "modbos." If you flash a modbo with the Matrix firmware, it'll destroy the chip. Before flashing make sure your Matrix is the real thing.
DMS 4 Pro or Pro SE: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=3138141 DMS 4 Lite or Lite SE: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=8823396
104. Q. I can't get my DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity to boot backups/imports, what's going on?
A. You need to flash the chip with the latest firmware to boot backups and imports.
DMS 4 Pro SE or Pro: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=3138141 DMS 4 Lite or Lite SE: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=8823396 Matrix Infinity: http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=news
Note: There are a ton of Matrix Infinity Clones out there. If you flash a Matrix Infinity clone with the official MI firmware, you'll fry the clone chip. That's a little gift from the Matrix Team to you for not researching and making sure you got a legit MI. After reading this FAQ, there's no excuse for ending up with a MI Clone.
Use Alcohol 120% to burn the bin file to CD-R.
Alcohol 120%: Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_
Burn the Firmware to CD-R with these instructions:
1. Unzip the firmware.
2. Insert your blank disc.
3. Open Alcohol 120%.
4. Go to File-->Open and browse to the cue file. Double click it.
5. Once it's open under Alcohol 120%, right click the cue file and click image burning wizard.
6. Select your recorder, leave the write method alone, set the write speed to 4x, set the datatype to PS2, and click next.

@tokijin I am sorry if I offended you and I really wasn't trying to be a smartass, but I really didn't find anything about needing a hacked firmware to play imports with the DMS4 SE Pro. I did find something about latest firmware and I thought it would be the latest official one. And believe me I read every single stickied guide in the last few days. I just thought it would save some people from some trouble if it was mentioned at the beginning.
So forgive me I am inexperienced in backing up PS2 games. ;)
