Nope. I don't play PS2 games online. If you could find a way to play a backup of Socom 3 online, you'd make a lot of people very happy. This sounds like an obscure issue that would require some hands on experience and research to overcome.

Actually,

I do know how to play Socom 3 online. I think I can safely say this considering it's not illegal, and no pirating is implemented. Socom 3 is one game I do play online, but not through the "online" option.

Via Xlink, I play rounds of Socom 3 with other internet gamers, but use the LAN option instead. Xlink runs via your PC, and connects to the Xlink servers, and announces to your PS2 that a "world" of other PS2s are connected to your LAN. It's sorta of like XBConnect, but I've found playing games on Xlink is a great deal faster and smoother, and you are not just limited to the Xbox as with XbConnect. With Xlink, you can play any game system (gamecube, PS2, Xbox, PSP, etc) via the same software, and you just use the LAN option on your particular console's game menu. Using the Xlink Software on your PC, you just select your system (console type: PS2, Xbox, etc), then the game lobby for that game. Pick a game that is ready (or host a game), click it, and select the LAN option on your PS2. The software connects your PS2 to the servers, and wa-la, you are looking at your tv seeing other connected players for that game session. Voice chat via your headset works as well.

I would say that Xlink is sort of like the MSN Gaming Zone to where you can take your online PC games to a different "zone" of gamers outside of the game's sponsored servers (like you would normally join blizzard's servers to play World of Warcraft.) Xlink is just a different avenue to get your game to play online. And, as with the MSN Gaming Zone, game play is free.

In conclusion, I can surely say that Socom 3 plays smoothly through Xlink. So, if you want to take your game to a different arena of online gaming (or any LAN capable game for that matter), then give Xlink a try.

Humm, I've advertised I'm back, but under a new name. Now, someone is asking for the free software (which is what I was banned for earlier). Is this a trap for me to step into? It's almost Easter, and I'd like to fill your basket with goodies, but can't. However, I can help you along your way down the rabbit hole.

You already know what you need. If you Google it, it will come. You may end up having to sign up as a member on the locations you find it, because it's the norm for members to have access to download links. That's a tip for you. So, if you Google an item, find it, but see no way to download it, become a member of that location. YOu can always cancel your membership afterwards.

It's not illegal to give links to freeware. If you give out links to pirated serials for copyrighted software, that's when you get into trouble. That being said, there is a giant link which contains all the necessary software stickied at the top of the PS2 DVD Forums. In the future read the stickies before posting.

I ripped Xenosaga using your guide, everything turned out perfect except CD 3 being 2.0 gig instead of 1.32. I burned it anyways and up untill i have to switch to CD 3 everything worked out nicely, when i do switch to CD 3, the cut-scenes are old ones that ive already seen and the game crashes after it displays them, I did try rebuilding it all over ceveral times, but i cant get CD 3 to work, always turns out 2.0 gig or 1.9 gig etc etc, is there anything i can do to fix this?

Until resently I was using Magic 3 DVD disc to play my backups like 50 cent. It played perfectly. The backup DVD disc was Memorex DVD+R DL. I did not have to shink the size to fit on a 4.7G DVD. I desided to put a mod chip DMS4 EZI and now I can't play the game. I get read disc error. Is it the media (Memorex)? I also fount that there is Toxic patch for DVD-9 games. Do I need to patch my iso and reburn my backup?

The DMS 4 EZI chip auto patches DL games. That's not the issue. Did you flash the chip with Toxic OS? You need to flash it with the latest version of Toxic OS (for DMS 4 EZI Pro) or Toxic BIOS (for DMS 4 EZI Lite) in order to play backups and imports.

104. Q. I can't get my DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity to boot backups/imports, what's going on?
A. You need to flash the chip with the latest firmware to boot backups and imports.
DMS 4 Pro SE or Pro: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=3138141
DMS 4 Lite or Lite SE: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=8823396

Alcohol 120%: Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

Burn the Firmware to CD-R with these instructions:
1. Unzip the firmware.
2. Insert your blank disc.
3. Open Alcohol 120%.
4. Go to File-->Open and browse to the cue file. Double click it.
5. Once it's open under Alcohol 120%, right click the cue file and click image burning wizard.
6. Select your recorder, leave the write method alone, set the write speed to 4x, set the datatype to PS2, and click next.

Straight from Toxic OS Manual PDF File:

DVD+R dual layer media support
Until now it has been impossible to play DVD9 games backed up onto dual layer media on the PS2 due to a problem with reading from the second layer because the data format on burnt DL discs is different than on pressed discs (burnt = OTP, pressed = PTP). However, we have discovered a software hack which enables the PS2 to read even burnt OTP discs meaning it is now possible to make backups of dual layer games such as GT4. ToxicOS includes an "auto-patching" mechanism which applies this patch on the fly. The auto-patcher is disabled by default, to enable set "DVD+R DL Support" in the settings menu.
NOTE: Unfortunately due to software restrictions the auto-patching will not work if you boot your DL backup from the updated Sony browser stored on the HDD. If you are using the updated browser then in order to play your DL backups you must boot them either with fastboot or from inside ToxicOS ("Launch Disc" from main menu). If you are not using the browser update then there are no limitations regarding how you can boot DL backups.

I don't know what this trying to say. What do I need to do when I start the PS2? Can I play this backup or do I need to reburn it?

Reread it. It's telling you to enable DVD+R DL support in the settings menu. Go to the Settings Menu in Toxic OS and enable DL support. I thought it might be something like that. The Matrix Infinity is the same way. The chip doesn't support Dual Layer backups without enabling DL support in the firmware menu.

@zangakat

Honestly, I don't know how your x3 (disc 3) end up with 2GB. Since you already got disc 1 & disc 2, and disc 3 is what you need, so I suggest you delete everything and start all over again to see if you'll get a different size of file/gb for disc 3 (x3).

Is your original Xenosaga Episode 1, a US version with 7.88GB once DVD Decrypter successfully ripped the original ISO Image into your hard drive?

The most critical part is using Apache 3 to extract both layers and when you're using the "go.bat" process sequences. I recommend you NOT to touch your computer for the 2 steps.

Again, like I said, delete everything and try to give it a shot from the start by ripping the ISO Image from the original dvd using DVD Decrypter and continue on with the guide and you'll be fine. Yes, for this game, I recommend to burn the x1, x2 and x3 ISO with DVD Decrypter.

Good luck and let me know how it goes. Just incase you need to know, here is/are my final x1, x2 and x3 size/GB -- look at picture for reference.

UPDATED....

@zangakat

You have use my "Gnie's ExPERT auto rebuild guide" on page 18 to rebuild the whole ISO that you used DVD Decrypter to rip from into a DVD5. Try it... that should work. I told my nephew to do that and he said it's working too. So it won't hurt to try you know, afterall, it's only one blank disc you know.

@Brewgod23 Quite frankly if you can't find the settings menu in Toxic OS, you need to familarize yourself with the chip a little more. I could hold your hand and link you to directions, but I think you would do yourself a favor by figuring it out how it works. There's a very detailed easy to understand manual that's included in the Toxic OS firmware download. If you can't figure it how from that, search around the dms3.com forums: http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4198

The answer is in that thread. If you can't figure it out from there, then you need to do some research. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but this is very simple. I've probably been a little more patient with you than I should. The rest is up to you. Cheers!

Thanks Tokijin, I found out how to get to the settings.

When the console is booting, holding down certain buttons on controller 1 will activate certain modes/features. These are listed below:

CROSS- Use standard boot (over-ride default boot mode setting)
R1- Boot into ToxicOS
TRIANGLE- MC Dev.olution modeSTART- HDD Dev.olution mode
R2- Flash Dev.olution modeSELECT- Fast boot mode
L1- Disable modchip

I am just not good at looking at the whole picture. Thanks for opening my eyes.
