800x600 is the limit we accepted in the graphics thread. Not sure if it's forum-wide yet though.

Rob,
My bad! I missed that little part about the 533/400MHz. It may still run 800MHz though. The first GigaByte MB I bought, the 965P-DS3R supported 800MHz memory, but 1066 ran fine on it at 1066. Give them 800MHz puppies a try! It won't hurt the memory and will either work or not work!

Russ

Cincy that board only takes two types of memory brother and
DDR 1 Pin size 184
ddr 333 (PC 2700) or DDR 400 (PC 3200)there's 92 connector on each side of dimm slots as well as the memory stick...
if I had the board I would slap one or two these in it and be done:)
Pin size 184
Kingston

or
step up to some

DDR II 240-Pin 533 (PC2 4200)

2 gigs maxs on both ddr and ddr2
i was looking at the memory specs of that board

Will,
I have a question. Why buy a single 1GB DDR chip for $36, or a single 1GB DDR2/533 chip, when he can get a matched set of DDR2/533 (2x512) for $16, and run in dual channel mode to boot? Same amount of memory, but faster in Dual Channel! Especially when the cost difference is $1.50!
Also, just because the motherboard doesn't support 800MHz memory, doesn't mean it won't work! My 965P-DS3R only supported 800MHz memory, but ran 1066MHz memory at 1066 in dual channel, just fine!
Rob,
I would try the Crucial you have now. It won't hurt the memory, but be sure to set the voltage according to the memory specs! If it doesn't work, so be it! At least you tried! LOL!!
Best Regards,
Russ

Well Russ he can just get 2gigs of DDR2/533 and just max the board out for less than $30 bucks
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144151
instead of 2x512 it can be 2x1 for less than $30 at dual channel mode by bad was'nt thinking of dual channel...I forgot all about it...I was thinking of just getting the board up and running...lol

Will,
I was just staying within the amount he had posted! LOL!! If I was Rob, I would still try some 800MHz first. It should work fine. Like I told him, my 965P only supported 533/800MHz memory, but it had no problem running 1066 memory!
BTW! I'm looking for a 1GHz PIII, socket 370. the server motherboard won't run the 1.4GHz one I have. It does nothing when I put it in the MB. It could be dead, but I doubt it as it was still in the sealed plastic bag, that has Intel written all over it! The highest speed you can put in it is 1GHz. I have a 700MHz Coppermine in it right now, and it's faster than the 1GHz Slot 1 in the Dell! LOL!! Anybody with a 1GHz socket 370 P-III kicking around that they don't want, send me a PM please!
I pulled that POS HL-DT-ST DVD/Combo drive apart and cleaned the lens, and that seems to help, as it now plays my burned DVDs without problems. Amazingly it will run Power DVD 7! Usually on lesser computers like this one I have to install Power DVD 5 or 6, but 7 works fine with this MB! I'm going to sell the Dell 420 Workstation and keep this one as our backup computer. Cost was $0, so all it took was a little time! It was fun too. Felt like I took a step back in time! LOL!! It does run better than I expected it to!

Russ

Sam,
Whatever it is, it's a POS! eMachines were smart to go to conventional Lite-On drives! I doubt that this drive was used more than a dozen times since it was new, as it was used to run the Cash Register. Pure Junk!

Because every one i have ever come across barely plays original DVDs and CDs. Most of the time they won't play burned DVDs or even most burned CDs! I've replaced over a dozen of this model for the same reason! I also took this one apart, and the quality is poor!

Other than noise, I never had any problems with LG drives either. The noise problem was about 4-5 years ago. In all fairness to LG, I think this was more a design that LG made for eMachines, as I've never seen anything remotely like it before. I also found sources that say it's made by Hitachi. Whatever it is, it's made exclusively for use in the older eMachines and it looks like Gateways too, the ones with the curved front. It won't really fit in anything else properly as it's too wide to fit past the bay sides because the plastic is on the outside of the drive like a sleeve. That and better than half the height of the entire front moves in and out with the tray. It also won't play burned DL DVDs. They just won't address at all. It tells you that there's no disk in the drive! :(
Opps, I just installed the latest firmware and it now reads DLs! :)
Best Regards,
Russ

ABIT Fatal1ty AA8XE
Cincy to my understanding fatal1ty is one of the most successful professional gamers in the world at it's time that's what..I read
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Abit/AA8XE/
the board looks something like this below
it will fit this cpu here
http://www.xpcgear.com/p4550oem.html
and by the looks of it supports 1066/800MHz fsb i believe you can put any 45nm chip in it as long as it's not above 1066 fsb of a socket 775 the drives would'en be hard to find for the board thru web sites and windows updates if the board is able to fire up it's worth keeping remember one man's junk is another man's treasure...and if you don't want that treasure send it my way...lol
i'll slap some of this in it...

Rob,
It's pretty old, in terms of socket 775 motherboards, at least 4 years! I've just checked with Abit, and it only supports 90nm CPUs! It does not support any of the 65nm or 45nm CPUs, which means no 800MHz P4s, Pentium Ds, C2Ds, or Quads! The last bios update available was 12/05! Looks like a P4/533 or a Celeron/533 are the only CPUs you can use in it. 4 Sata 150 and a max of 8 USB ports, and only 1 IDE for two devices.
One of my biggest gripes about both Abit and MSI is that they would bring out a new, fairly spectacular MB every once in a while, and then fail to support them for very long. I mean, what good is 1066 fsb support, if there are no compatible CPUs to run on it, as there are no 1066 90nm chips. From the looks of it, and how all the reviews I looked at tested, only a 533 fsb CPU will work in it. My reasoning there, is the 800MHz Prescots were around then, but all the reviews were done with 533s! There has to be some reason for that! Like I said, December 2005 was the last bios update!
EDIT: Mistake! LOL!!
Best Regards,
Russ

My WD AAKS apparently only makes a very loud pulsing noise when the OS is XP. For the past few weeks I've been running debian and win7 with the exact same setup and it was dead quiet, and then 2s after booting into XP it started to make that noise again. What do you guy's think of that? It doesn't make any sense to me no matter how I think about it.
Another strange thing, when I use a 64bit OS it only see's 3GB of ram instead of 4GB. Also noticed during post it only finds 3GB. Cpu-z reads 4GB though, any thoughts on what might be going on?
TIA

Mine was silent for about a year...the other WD that's older and been through a lot more is still silent and running fine so odds are it's just a defective drive. Still very odd as to what causes the problem though. In the end it'll probably just be RMA'd as soon as I have a place to put the data.
