its really great that you mentioned the quick scan.
if not i would probably go and try to buy more media more burner
and whatever i can get to see if i will ever get a 100 on my scan.
so i guess "OBSESSION" is proably the only word to describe this.
i used to be able to get by or satisfied with anything over 90. i really didnt know or use the Nero scan until couple weeks ago. i guess its just the more you know the better you want to become.
heck, the memosux was once my beloved mediat thats back when didnt know much of anything about burning. the reason for using memosux is because its first thing that was onsale at best buy the day i walked in. but now i would not use it even its really cheap.

@Yujenh: Yeah, a quickscan comes out higher, generally speaking, than a fullscan using Nero's CDSpeed. You can check Tokijin's posts and see that his quickscans are very high (98ish in most cases), but his fullscans are a bit lower, but certainly not "bad" by any definition. I think that my particular drive (Lite-On 1693S) just really seems to like TY DVD+Rs, at least for quickscans. The Verbatims I've done are coming out around 98-100 on a quickscan (again, DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM). As for grabbing what's on sale, there's nothing wrong with saving a few bucks when you can, but if you're shopping in the US, you're better off sticking with Verbatims/Sony/Fuji media, as it is more commonly stocked in retail stores and is actually high quality (MCC/MIJ). Speaking of which, if you're in the mood to try out Sony, I think Circuit City had a decent price on DVD+Rs... Yes, $7.99 for a 25 spindle of DVD+Rs, which is under .30 a disc, not too bad.

It would be almost impossible to get a 100 with CD/DVD Speed. It's quality score is based on max PIF spikes. A single PIF will drop you to a 99. Even on the best quality media, I've never known anyone who's seen a legit 100. That means it'd have to get a 100 on full scan, on a burner that supports PI/PO scanning. It's never happened, and I doubt it ever will.

That's a real good deal on the TY's. The high grade Hitachi Maxell's are good, maybe a little below Taiyo Yuden. I can only find them locally at Wal-Mart in 5 packs. It's not worth getting a 5 pack for $7. I'd snatch up those TY's, if you're interested.

Well you've got me beat. My worst scan on Yuden000T02 is a 91 and a 94, both of which are in the last week. I consider those poor scores for TY. I got that batch from a local K-Mart. Theu appear to be a little older, they still use the circular spacers at the top and don't have accucore on the disc. The newer Sony branded TY DVD+R's do.

Well, I had a chance to burn a couple of things on my new Benq 1655 today, and I must say I'm pretty happy with the results. I would say this drive (which uses a Philips chipset like its predecessors, but the chipset is not identical to the 1640) is a worthy successor to prior Benqs, from what I can see so far. It burns fast and quiet with very low PIF/PIE, even compared to my Lite-On. Well worth the $50 I paid for it.

@Jurgennop - start a thread in the Nero forum and put your Nero logfile in there and PM me with the link to the thread and i or one of the other Nero regulars (ok i'm busted, i'm not a regular in the Nero forum lately, but i digress!) will attack your problem for you..

ps if it's Nero 6, put the LAST section of your Nero log in there, which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

if it's Nero 7 put the LAST section of your Nero log in there, which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C' or similar.

either way you can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

thx, but here's the strange part,i just saw that it will burn with Nero at 4x where it wouldn't burn with DVD Decrypter at 2,4x although it states that that speed is supported, which i have always burned my sony's at(2,4x),so now i've tried burning with DVD Decrypter at 4x and it burns as well,so it's a problem with the burn speed,4x... yes and 2,4x...no
Anyone know why?

If your Verbatims come up with the MID Code beginning with MCC, they are fine. That stands for Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, one of the top notch disc makers out there, using high grade Azo dyes that are both high quality and long lasting.

Yeah I let my burner attempt to rip a horribly scratched copy of Lord of the Rings:Return of the King (the PS2 game) for 14 hours before giving up on it. I don't think that can be good for the laser, but I got my burner at Wal-Mart, so it's all good. Anyway fresh off that I burned Syphon Filter Omega Strain to Yuden000T02 and only got a 95. Then I burned Suikoden V, here's the scan. You know you're spoiled when you're a little disappointed with 95's lol.
