hope this worked,is this considered a good burn then?
Seeing my speed won't go up beyond 0.83x
does this affect this test and for some reason no one knows how this happens?

I can see that one. That's probably a good scan, it's just not a 100% accurate. It doesn't appear your drive supports PI/PO scanning. Mine didn't either til I crossflashed. It's most like a 95+ with PI/PO scanning. Any particular reason you're using the German version of CD/DVD Speed?

hehe,it's the dutch version and i'm using it because i'm dutch.
I thought the benq 1620 supported PI/PO scanning?
I'm using the G7V9 firmware,is that the right one for the bulk version of this drive? the logo isn't on the front lid.

I'm not sure if the BenQ 1620 supports PI/PO scanning, the 1640 does. I think the 1620 does, I seem to remember Mort81 posting some scans awhile back on his BenQ drive. I'd PM him and find out. I know what'll get Doc in the fray. I'm tired of quality media. So I switched back to CMC Mag. Here's a scan of my latest backup:

I'm yankin ya, this was the first DVD I ever burned. I keep it around for a laugh. It's Dragon Quest VIII-Jap. I tested it. Do you think a 0 quality score would boot in any DVD player, let alone the ultra picky PS2? Hell no.

My retail benq dw1620 is capable of scanning with Nero disc quality. I'm not sure if the oem/bulk vs is though. They do use different firmware.

@Tokijin: Wow! Look at all the pretty colors! As much as I like my high end results, those reds and yellows are very stylish! I'm going to burn another TY here, pretty soon on my Benq and post the results. I want to get an idea of whether this Benq is performing as well as its predecessors.

Okay, here's my TY trial. It's only a 97%, and not quite as pretty as Tokijin's, but still okay. I think my Lite-On 1693S might be a little better with TYs, but the Benq 1655 is definitely great with Verbatim +Rs.

@ Tokijin

I just crossflashed my Philips 8701 to BenQ 1640 and it's working okay, I think (I haven't burnt anything yet), at least the crossflashing was successful =) So thanks for helping me out. I'm playing around with the QSuite right now and I just wanna ask how do I get SolidBurn to "learn" my discs. One more thing: do I just enable everything and leave it alone and it will help the burner burn the disc in its best quality?

I know this is the tayio yuden thread, but i was excited to see my first 98 quality score on any media and wanted to share.. seems like i do better burning 16x media at 4x rather than 8x. This is the first time burning at 4x.

P.S AHHH im almost out of taiyo yudens!! I am at school and left my MIJ sony's at home.. :-( Good thing their going on sale next week. :)

Very true, but I bought these verbs when they were on sale awhile back..50 pack for 14.99, which is a good deal. I have tested burning at 4x and also 8x. I get about the the same scores when burning 4x and 8x, but a little better with 4x. This was the first 98 score. I do buy from supermediastore, and must say thats a heck of a deal. Although, i still have some verbs and sony MIJ left. After those are burned..Then i want to try out DVD-R TY, cuz alot of people, including Doc say that lieton's burn better DVD-R, so I want to test them out.

Well he would be better off with 8x Discs rather then 4x.
AFAIK burn at 2x on 4x discs & 4x on 8x discs.

I don't know exactly how to get SolidBurn to "learn" your disc strategies. I simply enable it and forget it about it. Like Doc said before, as far as WPOC and SolidBurn actually improving burn quality, I assume it does, but it's hard to quantify. I know it's on, short of that, I have no idea how to tell if it's actually doing anything. I don't get all 99's, I get 95's and 97's quite frequently to. I don't think anyone, including the Doc, get's 99's all the time. Hang one someone's at the door. "Oh hey Doc. Oh I was just saying noone gets 99's all the... what's that no I don't need a free labodomy, Doc... no stop...."

As I was saying. DocTY good.. all scans 99.... brains.....

That's a pretty good deal. I've seen them cheaper at Supermediastore.com with free shipping once for $34.99. They change sales so often, you pretty much just need to check daily for bargains. Here's 200 TYG02's for $68 and free shipping. http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-...

Here's the Yuden000T02: http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-...

$20 more. I dunno. I've got a birthday in a month or so, mom and dad I got straight A's... buy me the 200 TY DVD+R's. I pretty much have switched to DVD+R's, at least for PS2 backups. I've noticed that my burner seems to get better results when burning to the edge. I seem more apt to get 95's when burning to the middle of the disc. Not always. Here's MGS3:Subsistence Disk One:

Actually darthnip - those prices are pretty much in line with both supermediastore and meritline's sale prices. I've seen slightly higher and slightly lower. The slightly lower ones didn't include the paper sleeves. For example last week Meritline had the same special with the cd holders (same as the site you suggested) for $41.99. But I've seen the same discs on sale for $37.99 shipped on occasion. All in all they seem to have good prices and thankyou for another avenue to go down when looking for media.

@Tokijin - Keep in mind the one's darthnip suggested were inkjet printable and not thermal and included the paper sleeves ;) These are the ones he showed:

http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yud...-media-100.html

They're $42.99 without the sleeves at supermediastore.

Does anyone buy those thermals? Two years ago those things were more than the inkjet printables, but now they're cheaper. Everyone has been dropping the prices on those lately. Personally I have no need for them since I don't have a thermal printer, but I even notcied they have a low end thermal printer now that's around $130.

Looks like they are. The same paper slip on top that comes w/ the Taiyo's in a cakebox and code for the 8x. Can't read most the language (german?) but looks like the real deal. Reputable online store?

Anyone ever try Panasonic DVD-RAM? I would assume that they are decent (being made in USA).
