Welcome back Doc ...
Now to addressing Taiyo Yuden stuff ... why doesn't TY make DVD+RW discs? and Doc, why do my set top LiteOn recorders have trouble recognizing Yuden 000 T02 discs that have been recorded in DVD+R, DVD+VR and DVD-ROM modes? The recorders have no problems reading Ritek, MIT Sony and Verbatim ...

Good to see ya back around Doc. Take better care of yourself! I know the repetitive noob questions are annoying, they're definitely not worth getting sick over lol. Anyway Welcome back! Here's a little challenge for ya.
Quote: So, after reading the first post here, I went to the store to buy me some DVD's. Futureshop (Canada) has these DVD's called Comstar. I bought a 200 pack for $40. I have to say, I got a good deal, I think. I used DVD Identifier, and the media code is MCC003. So according to the first post, these should be first class media. Has anyone else ever heard of Comstar? Also, I had the same problem as Rockk. I had a v9 that lasted a year, then suddenly died. I do think it was media related, so I'm going to give one of these comstar's a shot.
Quote: Then he posted, Yep, definitely fakes. Ran Nero CD/DVD Drive Speed. Started out at 71, and just went down hill. Definitely not using these for my PS2. Movies and Data backup only. If these weren't on sale, I'd be pretty pissed off, lol. But $40 for 200 blank discs, I'm not complaining.
So do you or Mort81 know what the codes on the inner hub are for legit MCC03?

@catfreak
thanks buddy for the warm welcome back...
as to why TY does not make DVD+RW, that is just their choice of production, much like the way TY stands about producing dvd+R/dvd-r DL media, it's not gonna happen in the foreseeable future i'm afraid~ :0
we all know that DVD+RW has been out for AGES, i only have a few in that particular format, but mine are ridata riteks 4x speed...they work just fine for me...i'm sure the Verbs/Maxells or whatever might be "better" in terms of quality, but, since i rarely use that format for anything...i found no need to buy any...
as to your Liteon recorders not "appreciating" the YUDEN000T02s, this might be a case of "taiwanese firmware" (ie. Liteon) not being up to par to recognize the JAPANESE media ID coding and media~ :) as you have mentioned, the Liteon's can read/play the TAIWANESE made media just fine...ie. Verbs, Ritek, MIT Sony..etc...if you notice the "trend" there...they are ALL Taiwanese manufactured media...
there is not much you can do to resolve this issue against the TYs, until Liteon comes out with newer/better firmware to accomodate the japanese media/media ID coding...sorry~ :) naturally, taiwan drive companies like taiwan made media...
@binkie
thank you very much girl, i appreciate the kind words...and i'm glad to be back~ :)

@tokijin
thanks for the welcome back, yeah, some questions were beginning to get on my nerves, however, that was NOT the reason i was hospitalized, it was due to fatigue and stress from work, and only partially from AD~ :) LOL
as to the validity of MCC003s...of course i know which the "good ones" are...c'mon now, who do you think told creaky bout genuine Verbs in the beginning? hehehe
for real MCC003s...on the inner hub (where the TY coding is near the center) look for the following:
ZD3596-DVR-X47B
mainly look for the "ZD" or a "ZC" at the beginning...this holds true for the MCC003s that i have under the Verbatim brand as well as others...

@Jurgennop: Sheesh, that'll teach me to try remembering a name instead of cutting and pasting. :P Sorry for the numerous times I'm sure I misspelled your name. >_< Really, though, if you've got a decent burner and nothing accessing your hard drive (assuming you are burning from an image file) while you burn, you should see as good, or better, quality from an 8x burn versus a 4x. It seems like the better quality the media is, the better it responds to faster burn speeds.

Yeah I wasn't sure if that joke was in good taste after reading it over. Anyway thanks for the info. I'm on somewhat of a hiatus from AD as well. I'm just sick to death of the noob questions myself, so some downtime is necessary. I'm definitely on the DVD+R bandwagon now, I get stretches where I get 3 or 4 99's in a row with CD/DVD Speed on Yuden000T02. Out of a 50 spindle I finished the other day, the lowest scores I got were a 91 and a 94. The other 48 discs were a 95 or better! Anyway it's good to have ya back Doc. Cheers!

In reading in the begining of this thread I noticed that there are certian numbers on the inner disk. the person had xxxx in his number... can anyone tell me about these numbers- I am at work and will not be able to run it through my dvd idenifier... My TYs No. are GGOOOO77 theres an other set but cannot read it. another question is how reliable are those dvd idenifiers? and what is the best one?

those "xxxx" digits i mentioned earlier represent numerical values of the batch number on genuine Taiyo Yudens, they will be numbers, i used xxxx as a reference only~ :)
you got authentic TYs...no worries...your "GG" preface gives it away as being TYG02s, or the 8x dvd-r format of Taiyo Yudens, regardless of which 'brand' you purchased them under~ :)
happy burning
docTy~
p.s. edit, as to the dvd identifier programs, they ALL do the same thing, there really is no "better" or "best" one~ :) the only problem with them in general is that there are SO MANY FAKE TYs out there that companies FAKE the MID reading on them too~ :) hence, the need to educate people about how to CHECK 100% for GENUINE TYs as i mentioned at the beginning of this thread~ just because you see the dvd identifier program say they are "taiyo yuden" or use a "ty coding", DOES NOT guarantee they are authentic, the inner hub readings along with the complimentary rated speed DOES...also, they MUST BE "made in japan"...that is a dead-giveaway~ :)

cool thanks... I really want and have used DVD+R- but I just dont see much differance... could be the size of a T.V. cause I see more defects on my 35in. then my bedroom 27in. on high compression, anyways they say better tech. w/ the DVD+R, just cannot justify the priece... TYs have been good to me

Quote: cause I see more defects on my 35in. then my bedroom 27in. on high compression
well, whenever high compression is used, naturally, the defects/artifacts will be more prevalent and noticeable on a larger screen size...this holds true with ANY media in either format (dvd-r or dvd+r)...it's the COMPRESSION used to fit those larger discs (dvd9) onto a single layer (dvd5) disc that causes this, using DVD+R over DVD-R or vice versa will make NO DIFFERENCE if you are using that much "high compression" as you stated...even on Taiyo Yudens~ :)

thanks for the kind words buddy, been out of it for a few weeks now, but i'm back on the media warpath...
btw, that link you posted to supermediastore for the DVD-R TYs, is this a recent change in their description?
Product Code: DVD01X0238
Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden - Made In Japan
Media ID: TYG02
they list the media ID coding as TYG02 now, whereas a few weeks ago when i was looking, they had TYG01/TYG02/TYG03 listed...just curious as to whether or not they GUARANTEE the 8x rated TYG02s now? or they just saying that?
lemme know if you have more detailed info as to what they are sending out...due to the recent reviews i see, many people have been getting the TYG03s (16x dvd-r), just curious that's all~
