Hey all
I know your all probably tired of hearing this but I have my psp at 3.52 m33-4. But for the life of me I can not get the 3.71 Update file to work on me psp. I have put it in every file it just keeps coming up as corrupt.
Thanks

I need help, i am a n00b at this custom firmware stuff.
maybe you're using the pandora battery tool used for the 1.50ofw.. i think what you need is the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL, this uses 3.xx so any CUSTOM firmware can be used to convert the battery to service mode.. if you dont have a psp with a cfw, borrow a psp with cfw or try to get a pandora battery..
OR.. look for a psp with official firmware 1.50 then run the pandora battery creator on that psp..
oh I forgot to ask this :) what is the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL? because maybe we did download the wrong pandora zip file. and NO Aceman82 does not have CFW he is on SLIM 3.93 OFW, Is his only options buy or borrow or use a CFW psp to get the pandora batt?
okay.. i will help you with what i know and how i downgraded my brother's psp slip with an ofw 3.90[sorry, i just have a business of fixing psp's.. i dont have a psp myself].. dont think that 3.90 and 3.93 ofw have different ways to downgrade because they're both official firmwares, and that's what we're trying to fix..
by the way, i have never used despartar cementerio.. sorry, i have no idea how it works.. i just use pandora..
here we go..
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610312
this is the step-by-step guide to downgrading a psp with ofw using another psp with CFW installed.. after formatting the memcard while on the psp using the cpu[what you told me you did], and after you have copied the necessary files[it is written on the thread i gave you], run the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL on the psp with the custom firmware.. because the os pandora batt tool runs on 3.xx, it will work on ANY CUSTOM FIRMWARE.. this will convert your battery to service mode [PANDORA BATTERY].. then place the memcard[after formatting and copying of the files, it is already the magic memcard okay?] and the pandora battery on the psp with the ofw.. it will install a 3.52CFW on the psp..
so this will be your problem.. you can easily have a magic memcard[you already had one earlier].. HOWEVER, you can't get a pandora battery because the pandora battery tool you got is meant for a 1.50ofw.. which will be resolved with the thread that i gave you because it has the OS PANDORA..[im tired of retyping this name.. haha] but, with the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL runs on cfw's, so now you need a psp with a custom firmware..
so here are your choices.. either get a psp with 1.50ofw, place the magic memcard in it and convert the battery using your battery tool.. or get a psp with a custom firmware, place the magic memcard in it and use the os pandora battery tool to convert the battery.. or just look for a ready-made pandora battery..
i hope i explained this clearly to you.. and i hope this helps install the cfw on your psp with a 3.93ofw.. if you have any questions, just reply to this thread and quote mine..
much appreciated for the reply mr whoopee, if any questions should come i will be sure to reply to you thanks again. I'm going back home in the middle of april i plan on visiting aceman and getting him squared away .

SicDude: Been eons since I messed with my psp. I have a fatty on 1.50 been using devhook which is no longer viable. I'm gonna use your guide and I take it from the title of the thread that I can go from 3.52m334 right to 3.90 then install the 1.50 kernal? Is that the correct order?

Hello Everybody
First of all thanks for the advices in the thread especially to sicdude. Your guide is simple and straight forward. Terrific!!!
I have read through the information in this thread and I will like to try to upgrade my FAT psp myself. My current psp was upgraded by a friend of mine long time ago to 3.52 M33. I would like to upgrade to 3.90 M33. However I am very new to this upgrading and I would really appreciate if anyone could advise me on the questions below:
1) Currently my psp system information is 3.52 M33. How do i know if it is a custom firmware (cfw) or a official firmware (ofw)?
2) If i want to upgrade to 3.90 M33, do i have to install 3.52 custom firmware (according to the information provide by sicdude) to my psp given that my current psp is already running at 3.52 M33?
3) I read from other forums about pandora battery and bricking. What are bricks? Is it something that crash your psp?
4) When I go to PSP recovery mode, I check the configuration and found that the kernel is on 3.52 and I can switch to 1.50. What are kernels and do I have to install the 1.50 kernals in each steps as describe in the guide?
5) Is 3.90 M33 stable?
6) I wanted to play final fantasy crisis core but the movies in the game are jerky. Why is it so?
7) When I played Chrono Cross on my psp, whenever I tried to trap the Red Wolf spells, the screen goes hang. Can any body advise why is it so? Could it be due to my OS problem?
8) Lastly just to confirm if i have understand correctly (provide question 1 is answered). I am currently running on 3.52 M33 and I have to upgrade to 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4 before I could upgrade to 3.71 M33. Once that is done only the I could upgrade to 3.90 M33. Am I right?
Can anybody help me please? Thanks

hi..=D
sorry, im not sicdude.. but since i have nothing to do, and noone's replying to my question, i'll answer yours..
1) the extension M33 already means that it's a custom firmware..
cfw: 3.52 M33
ofw: Version 3.52
>>that's the difference if you look at the system information..
2) i think it's not just 3.52 M33.. i think it requires 3.52 M33-4? look at the guide given.. you'll see it there..=) and if you already have a 3.52 M33, just continue on the guide, dont redo anything..
3) if you did something wrong on your psp, or something goes wrong in the psp, the worst case is that it will brick and you won't be able to use it.. a brick is a crashed psp, a useless psp..
but don't worry, like the pandora you mentioned, it can unbrick the psp and make it useful again..=D
4)to enhance the performance of the psp.. kernels are only meant for the FAT ones.. slims reject these kernels because they don't need it..
if you already have the 1.50 kernel, in recovery mode, change it to 1.50 kernel.. it's useful[for me i guess..].. and the installation? it's already in the guide..^^
5) i don't recommend 3.90.. it's somehow unstable.. the most stable firmware right now is still 3.71[ps1 games run best in this firmware]..
6) switch to 1.50 kernel addon.. and for crisis core? i'd recommend that you upgrade to 3.80 M33-5
7) what i said earlier.. ps1 games run best in 3.71 M33.. other firmwares have bugs when playing ps1 games.. upgrade to 3.71 M33
8) upgrade to 3.52 M33-4.. then upgrade to the firmware you like
[i don't know the firmware requirement of 3.90.. i haven't tried it.. if the fw requirement of 3.90 is higher than 3.52 M33-4, just upgrade to the required fw and upgrade to 3.90.. just follow the guide..=)]

just to clarify....the 1.5 kernel allows for homebrew, slims can't use it (sony made it so it can't be used w/ slims, hardware issue?)
I don't Usenet, it uses me.

Hi Zepplin! Can you access the Recovery Menu? You can do that by Holding down the R shoulder button while you turn on the PSP. If you can access this menu, you are in luck as you can do a clean flash of 1.50 from recovery and from there 3.52 M33 ==> 3.90 M33
Please reply!

the newer versions [the M33 ones] have more features than that OE cfw's.. the features that your firmware already have are updated in the newer versions..[that's why it's called update..^^]
and new games made for the psp now use the new firmwares.. some can still be played on your current firmware, but they can have bugs and ruin your game..

You'll have to use "Despertar Del Cementerio v3" :)
Note : Also, while making your memory stick using "Despertar Del Cementerio v3" do not forget to change back to the original theme as making the memory stick on a custom theme would lead to a sem-brick of the PSP that you were going to install the cfw :)
