is there any difference, for example in these two:
install 3.71 m33 -> install 1.5 kernel addon -> install 3.71 m33-4
and
install 3.71 m33 -> install 3.71 m33-4 -> install 1.5 kernel addon
edit: and,
what is the difference between kernel addon v1 and v2?

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this forum. It's been approx. 1 yr since I've done anything to my PSP. When I first got the PSP, it had the FW 2.71 on it (version 'K'). It was my brother-in-law that helped me with the downgrade and upgrade. Of course I had no idea what he did and I eventually ended up with FW 3.40 OE-A. I think he used devhook's down/upgrade or something like that. I did not have to use GTA's UMD disc for this.
I've been looking through this forum and did not realize how much stuff I had missed. Only recently, I tried to download a 'backup' copy of Starwars Battle Front II and it did not work. I can only assume that most of the newer games will not work with my current FW.
Now on to the questions....
1) What is the 'best' FW to have (not necessary the latest)?
2) What do I need to do to upgrade to this FW?
3) What is the purpose of the pandora's battery and magic memory stick? Is this only for bricked PSP? I'm guessing I will not need either of these since my PSP has already been downgraded properly.
4) What is XMB?
5) What is the difference between all the latest FWs?
I know these questions have been asked before and I don't want to insult anyone. My knowledge base on PSP FW is very small. The guide at the beginning of this thread even confused me further. I did download the 3.52 M33 Instalation files (form the first thread, approx. 3/4 down).
Please help....
Confused,
TL

One Question:
My memory space seems to stay at 855MB. Does this firmware takes more than 1GB space? O_O

Yes. But I suggest that you back the files just in case you had to change your firmware, but wanted to keep 3.90M33.

There is something from the main post that i don't get. Im sitting here with 352m33-4 and wanting to update to 371m33.
The party i dont get is this.
Quote: * Download the update 4 here . http://dark-alex.org/
* Place the update folder in the following directory; 'X:/PSP/GAME150/'
* Run the update from your XMB, under GAME > Memory Stick.
There you go 3.52M33-4
now on to 3.71m33
you will need
3.71 M33: http://www.psp-vault.com/UpDownload-req-...ls-lid-2140.psp
and 3.71 Update file: http://www.psp-vault.com/UpDownload-req-getit-lid-2123.psp
MAKE SURE YOU KERNEL IS SET TO 3.52
you can do this in recovery mode
start the psp up whilst holding the R shoulder button down,go to configuration find the option for kernel and make sure it's on 3.52
Installation instructions:
First method for both psp, the prefered when possible:
Requeriments: a fat psp slim with 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4. Previous versions of M33 won't work,
due to a bug that affects them and OE; or a psp slim with 3.60 M33.
- Copy the UPDATE directory into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE and copy the EBOOT.PBP of the 3.71 Sony updater
there but with name "371.PBP". Note: the program will not even show if you copy it to a different folder than that.
It says at the end that i have to copy the update directory of the 371m33 file from Dark_Alex into the psp/game/update folder and copy the EBOOT.PBP of the 3.71 Sony Updater. Now where/what is the sony updater? I dont see any link in the thread or any other mention of this.
I tried copying both files' eboot.pbp into the UPDATE folder, but both of them come through as "corrupted data".
It might be something im overlooking but ive been searching for over 30minutes now and could not find any clue :(.
Cheers
Fabian

Go to the PSP website and download the 3.71 firmware file. That's what sicdude means.

Basically i went to the pandora's battery firmware installer and pressed X, the PSP logo and sound starts, then I got a message that said "the game could not be started.(8002014c)"
that number(8002014c) is the error code i recieved.
I need help, i am a n00b at this custom firmware stuff.

maybe you're using the pandora battery tool used for the 1.50ofw.. i think what you need is the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL, this uses 3.xx so any CUSTOM firmware can be used to convert the battery to service mode.. if you dont have a psp with a cfw, borrow a psp with cfw or try to get a pandora battery..
OR.. look for a psp with official firmware 1.50 then run the pandora battery creator on that psp..

Hello, I was trying to help Aceman82 over the phone with the downgrade. Everything was going ok until we got the error code displayed above. We were watching a couple of YOUTUBE videos , the first thing we did was try to create the magic/pandora mem stick, we used the c+d method to do it , first we had to format the mem stick using the cpu while the psp was in usb mode, we had to run a command prompt using the pandora zip files, everything was going correct according to the video, we even watched a little asian kid do it but he already had the magic mem stick and the pandora battery , his pandora batt and mem stick downgraded his slim psp 3.93 ofw to 3.80m33-5, I was wondering how he did this? the video only required (psp mem stick supported/1.50 OFW eboot renamed to UPDATE.PBP put in root of mem stick/ and a 79% charged regular psp battery/......I was a little confused about what the diffrence was between using "Despertar Cementerio v4 versus using the Pandora method?
Did we really have to format the memstick thru the computer for the pandora method? it seemed a little excessive but we did it anyway, Could that have caused the error? I'm stumped , and I'm not a complete noob but I dont have any experience with the SLIM, I personnally have a 3.80m33-4 cfw on my FAT

Hi Everyone. Since I did not receive any help from the forum, I went ahead anyways and upgraded my CFW to 3.52m33-4 without any problems. Yeah!
I went to another thread.."1 stop guide to 3.52..." and downloaded the 2 files. It looks like the instructions are quite easy to follow (from larrylje). But what is the advantage of upgrading from 3.52m33-4 to 3.90m33-2? Or what is the advantage of 3.90m33-2 over 3.71m33-4 etc...? Say if I want to play the most current games like GOW or FF, whic CFW do I need? How stable is 3.90m33-2? Does anyone know where can I find the latest or most popular homebrew aps? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

okay.. i will help you with what i know and how i downgraded my brother's psp slip with an ofw 3.90[sorry, i just have a business of fixing psp's.. i dont have a psp myself].. dont think that 3.90 and 3.93 ofw have different ways to downgrade because they're both official firmwares, and that's what we're trying to fix..
by the way, i have never used despartar cementerio.. sorry, i have no idea how it works.. i just use pandora..
here we go..
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610312
this is the step-by-step guide to downgrading a psp with ofw using another psp with CFW installed.. after formatting the memcard while on the psp using the cpu[what you told me you did], and after you have copied the necessary files[it is written on the thread i gave you], run the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL on the psp with the custom firmware.. because the os pandora batt tool runs on 3.xx, it will work on ANY CUSTOM FIRMWARE.. this will convert your battery to service mode [PANDORA BATTERY].. then place the memcard[after formatting and copying of the files, it is already the magic memcard okay?] and the pandora battery on the psp with the ofw.. it will install a 3.52CFW on the psp..
so this will be your problem.. you can easily have a magic memcard[you already had one earlier].. HOWEVER, you can't get a pandora battery because the pandora battery tool you got is meant for a 1.50ofw.. which will be resolved with the thread that i gave you because it has the OS PANDORA..[im tired of retyping this name.. haha] but, with the OS PANDORA BATTERY TOOL runs on cfw's, so now you need a psp with a custom firmware..
so here are your choices.. either get a psp with 1.50ofw, place the magic memcard in it and convert the battery using your battery tool.. or get a psp with a custom firmware, place the magic memcard in it and use the os pandora battery tool to convert the battery.. or just look for a ready-made pandora battery..
i hope i explained this clearly to you.. and i hope this helps install the cfw on your psp with a 3.93ofw.. if you have any questions, just reply to this thread and quote mine..

Hi, I'm trying to go from 3.52M33-4 to 3.90M33 but it is hanging. It shows unpacking...done and then Please wait... and seems to be hung here. I must have made a mistake. I have PSP\GAME\UPDATE\ and have Dark Alex's EBOOT.PBP and and Sonys 390.PBP in this directory. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey thanks for the guide, im have a small problem tho, im trying the-
Installation for an OE/M33 firmware
Installing 3.52 Custom Firmware on an OE or a M33 PSP:
I currently have 3.51 M33 and am trying to get to 3.52 M33 i followed the guide exactly like you said and when i tried to run the 3.52 M33 CREATER the message...
Loading 1.50 firmware... file 1.50PBP couldnt be openeing press x to exit.
Came up, at that point i looked back at your guide and i checked i had done everything correctly and i had, then i remembered i recently bought a 2gb sandisk ms so maybe it didnt work because of the new MS. I formatted the memory stick, put the M33 folder back on there and i still got the same message.
The i downloaded the 1.50PBP of a different site and tried again but still got the same message.
Have you got a solution to this problem? Is my new MS missing a new file or something? My psp is the fat version btw.
Thanks any help appreciated
