xer0_cool: DO NOT use tools that shrink iso's to copy PS2 games that are smaller than 4.3 GB. just rip the image, use hd dump/dumb!

I followed the guide for GT4 , but i cant get it to work.
I burned it on a TDK 16X dvd , and swap magic returns this error " Invalid ps2 disk".
Anyone knows where can i get a backup of the packed version?

Hi. Is there some difference between the original version (DVD-9) and the downsampled (DVD-5) version? Are the graphics of the game worst or something like that? I have now the PAL version but want to play GT4 at 480p/1080i.

Well , listen..
My friend gave me his original dvd because he wanted a backup of the game.
I made 1 copy for myself , and 1 for my friend. So, i had to test the 2 backups(i had to rebuild the iso with alkohol's guide @ page #5) , plus the original dvd.
All i can say is that both versions (orginial&backup)work great, i didnt noticed any glitch/delay/big loading times(YES,it loads just like the original) or WHATEVER..
Try it..

Hi folks
Tried the GT4 ripkit again and sorry to say that much of the rip kit software doesn't work for me.
Couldn't back up my GT4 and the game would patch either so i think
I'll give up
Thanks for the guide and tools though

Hi,
New here and new to the PS2 scene. Owned a grey PS1 for more than 8 years. Am 41 now but still game crazy.
Thanks for the guide Alkohol. It worked for me. I had ripped an iso from a European original to pc and put burned it on a Toshiba Samsung Writer on a dual layer disc. Needless to say it did not work. So I ripped it again from the "not working" copy to try things out. I managed to make a copy with VOL1 being about 1.8G. It worked but not perfectly. The game runs somewhat slow between screens. It takes ages to load but when it does it works. Will try again when I 'll get my hands again on the original.
Someone has complaine that when muxing and de-muxing Windows throws an error about MSCOMCT2.OCX. Pzych0 if you got the same progs as me from the same links there's a text file saying that if this problem arises just copy the .OCX file from the downloaded zip to /System32 of your pc. It should works great.

i did it, got it working, but some how i realise i have ended up with a PAL version of GT4, and not NTSC.
I followed the guide and everything went fine, but the game does not boot up.
It goes past save-game part of the game, then it just goes to a black screen, even the controllers analog light goes off.
Well, i might aswell just go get another copy.

Try pushing the X button as soon as you see the grayish screen & if it starts go into options & turn intro movie off... Just because it did not start up,doesn't mean your copy not working. Try a save from your orig GT4,turn intro movie off & try again..
PS Many thanks to Alkohol for your excellent guide..

How do you burn a built iso onto a disc using Nero StartSmart??"
- use Nero express. choose data dvd, then choose open file/ image
- OR you could install Daemon Tools, set # of drives to at least 1, then mount the image (makes windows think you have the cd in a drive, but you don't, you have the .iso in use there) then you just do a copy disc in Nero

Hi, i followed the guide to use the 3 disc rip kit for Xenosaga,
i do everything in the guide and everything goes well till i get to doing disc 3.
the first 2 discs come out perfect with the right file size and stuff, but disc 3 always comes out too big its always over 2gbs.
I've tried doing everything from scratch lots of times with the same problem, does anyone know what might be up with it?.
Even if anyone knows away to manually make the 3rd disc it would help alot if you could post how.
Maybe even let me know how many files and their file sizes on your 3rd disc?.

If you need the alucard.cc ripkit by NDT, I just uploaded it along with some general instructions. This was the same ripkit used on Xenosaga 1 & GTA long before GENIE's tool info became public.
Alternate download

I would like to know that also, I have looked at the file format of Rogue Galaxy and it seems the same data that is one the 2nd layer is on the 1st, so I am not sure what to do.

It seems this game is going to be one of the hardest yet.Someone also pointed that even removing the dummy files and videos you still get over 4.3gb, im starting to remember God of War all over again.LOL

Just like Xenosaga Episode I, this will likely require 3 DVD-5's (single layer). Anyone up to the task of using GENIE'S tool to shrink the videos? If the data on both layers is the same, it would become another Xenosaga I rip project which took a long time. Best reason to buy a m0dchip that supports DVD-9 dual layer discs.
