Yes, you have to downgrade, i'm sure reading the posts in this thread would actually answer all your questions, but whatever.

1) Use Lumines (unpatched version) to downgrade from 3.50 to 1.50.

2) Use a Pandora Battery to downgrade from your present firmware to 1.50 or straight up to custom firmware.

3) After that, either way, install custom firmware 3.71 M33-4 (suggestion, you could go with 3.90 M33-2 if you wanted).

Lol, they're the unpatched versions, but also the Japanese unpatched version works too, plus the first "Greatest Hits" release...

Now that is just blatant piracy hansfroon.
Also if you would have taken just a few minutes to read this thread alone you'd know what to do.
Let's take a look at the rules - shall we... Link is in my sig.

Hi Guys!
Ok, so I recently purchased a Fat PSP with 1.5 firmware. Following a guide on here, I can see how to upgrade to a recent custom firmware release. However, I have a question regarding ISOs, and seem to be confused. Apologies in advance if I'm asking anything stupid.

Once I have updated my PSP Fat to a Custom firmware release by making a Magic Memory Stick, I need to put an ISO into an ISO folder in the root directory of the Stick. I also need a program like Devhook, Fastloader, or UMDloader. Which is the best program to use? Do I need to have an old UMD inserted with all 3?

In addition, I seem to be reading about how newer custom firmware versions do not require a loader. Is this true, and if so, what version should I look for? M33?

Thanks for the help!

Hey! Thanks so much for your help!
I was also wondering if it's possible to load ISOs from a fake memory stick, or would you suggest I just spend the extra money on an original?

Considering you're on 1.50, you don't need to make a Pandora/Magic Memory Stick, you can just upgrade straight to custom firmware.

What you have to do is go from 1.50 to 3.52 M33 to 3.52 M33-4 to 3.71 M33 to 3.71 M33-4 (or from 3.52 M33, you could go straight to 3.90 M33, but i think 3.71 M33 is a better firmware), yes it does seem like quite a long way round, but it's the way you have to do it, and it should all take under an hour, during which you could be doing other things too.

As for your memory card, a fake will do, though there can be problems with saves becoming corrupt and multiple games not showing up on the card etc. so i would suggest you spend the money on a genuine card, a 4GB is probably about £30 or even less these days.

Here is a upgrading guide for you ecnal. I tried to use the automated installers for you as much as possible.

From 1.5 to 3.52 M33 Rev.2

First download the 3.52 M33 Winstaller. When the download is complete run the program, and follow all the options accordingly. When it is completed, and with at least 75% battery life and have the PSP charging cable plugged in the whole time too, turn on the PSP and go to the Memory Stick option in the Game menu and run the 3.52 M33 Update. It may take a while so just relax. When it is done you can check to ensure your at firmware 3.52 M33 by going to system information and checking your firmware version there. You may also format your memory stick now.

From 3.52 M33 to 3.71 M33

First thing that must be done before upgrading to 3.71 M33 is to apply the patches for 3.52 M33. So download this M33 Update file. Extract the zip archive and place the folder in the GAME150 directoy on your PSP memory stick. Then simply go to the Memory Stick option under the Game menu and run the update. It shouldn't take that long. After your done format your memory stick.

Now heres were things change. I recommend for YOU that you use firmware 3.80 M33 because the creator Dark_AleX integrated a auto-update feature. So next time there is a firmware update instead of having to located a easy installer or do the update manually. You can select the "Network Update" function from your PSP when in a area with a WiFi signal and the PSP will check for firmware updates, if there are updates ask you if you would like to download them, and if you say yes it will download all needed files to the appropriate folders, and update for you.

So whatever way you decide to go be it 3.70 or 3.80 M33 here are easy installers for both.
3.80 M33 (recommended)
3.70 M33

Instructions are the same for both of them. Put PSP in USB mode, run your chosen easy installer, and follow its directions. When your done run the update from the Memory Stick option in the Game menu.

It's most likely a crappy ISO rip. Redownload/rip the ISO from a different source/rpogram. For future reference OE/M33 firwmares can all play .ISO's and .CSO's natively. Some reasons for non-playback include faulty iso/cso's, iso/cso's not being in correct folder, and improper setup of the firmwares UMD emulation service.

You can also change the UMD mode by pressing Select while on the XMB screen if you have the vsh menu enabled :)

Hello all.
Ok, first off I have no clue where this post goes and I'm sorry if this is the wrong area and second I'am a noob to the modding of a PSP. I need some help with the PSP Slim. I'm in the market of purchasing a new Slim PSP and I would love play some Emulators on it as well as one or two PSX titles. Now have been reading about this "Pandora" Battery and "Magic" Memory Stick and Custom Firmware and I'm comfused to all hell. There are no guides out there that tell you step by step what to do and how to do it, everything is spread too far apart. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could help me. Give me a full detailed Step by Step guide on how to just add some Emulators. Thank you for your time.

First get custom firmware JinnK. Use this guide and thread if you have any problems
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313

Once you have custom firmware then hit up the homebrew forums

Well I won't bother writing a install guide for the custom firwmare and emulators right now but I will explain Pandora and the Magic Memory stick.

The basics of the Pand. Battery and Mag. Mem. Stick are this. A while back a user who has returned his PSP to Sony for repair got his unit returned with a battery w/ a screen in it and a memory stick with some peculiar files. These two items were heavily studied and eventually a breakthrough was made. The news was broken of the so called Pandora' Battery and Magic Memory Stick. Every Sony battery (for the original PSP) has a circuit board inside. It was found that by installing software based on what was found on the Sony battery w/ screen that a special service mode could be reached when a special prepared memory stick was inserted. Through this service mode much can be done, with the most common use being downgrading. Now as saidb before the battery was "soft-modded" that being a software based modification/hack that is undo-able, but this process required a firwmare 1.5 or custom firmware PSP. Eventually it was also discovered that modifying the circuit board itself could be done to create a Pandora' Battery but then the battery was rendered useless for everyday use. And as far the Magic Memory Stick goes it is just any other memory stick that has been "prepared" with special files.

Ok - that is a great guide and the background of the Pandora's origin is great as well. I will have to try it once I get my PSP. The easy part, from what I can see, is making the Magic Memory Stick while the pain the ass part is the battery. Also, with this guide I can do this with a new PSP right out of the box? Also - are there any guides out there that tell you how to change the battery yourself? I really don't want to spend $40 for a battery if there is an easier and cheaper way. Thanks for all of your replys.

Sorry for this extra post - I forgot to say this in the last one. You say make sure you have custom firmware installed - how would I go about doing that if I need to have the Pandora battery and stick first? Is there a step before doing the pandora items? If so, what am I missing?
Also I have been looking at videos on YouTube and a lot of them are talking about using 3.71 M33-2. Is that the Sony version or a custom version? I'm sorry for all of the questions - I want to start this thing once I pull it out of the box. Like, what would we be the very first thing I should do once I get it out? And how to do it?

I would love to do what this guy has done to his:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxmUSdNl02k&feature=related
Not his style - but the emu's and PSX and the custom theme and sounds

Yes this Battery/Mem.Stick combo can be done right out of the box, to virtually any PSP.

Quote:

There are, I was going to post them when you needed them but I will post now anyway. This thread here will explain EVERYTHING :) Battery modding AND Magic Memory Stick creation.
is there is an easier and cheaper way

Quote:

This is was my reply...
"but this process required a firwmare 1.5 or custom firmware PSP. Eventually it was also discovered that modifying the circuit board itself could be done to create a Pandora' Battery but then the battery was rendered useless for everyday use."

Basically the original way of creating the Pandora battery required a custom firmware PSP, so only people who already had custom firmware installed could make the batteries for other people. But then a way to create the Pandora Battery was found that allowed anybody to create the Pandora battery through modifying the battery itself. So no longer was custom firmware needed.

Firmwares that end in any type of letters 3.71 M33 or OE or HX are custom firmwares with the M33 types being widely considered the absolute best custom firwmares. And the -2 in M33-2 stands for Update 2.

Quote:
Like, what would we be the very first thing I should do once I get it out? And how to do it?
First thing one should do is check to see what firmware is installed because some firmwares dont need a battery/memory stick combo to downgrade. To do this go to the far left menu option named "System", then go to "System Settings", and then go down to "System Information". It will list your firmare version there let us know that and we can tell you the best way to go about downgrading.
