One of the reasons why we have all these custom firmwares is so people can keep their 1.50 firmware and play games needing higher firmware.

I'm having a bit of an issue recompiling the files into an .ISO.
I have UMDGen 4.00 and a slim already running CFW 3.71 M33-3. What i'm doing is trying to put Juiced 2 on my PSP. I dragged the PSP_GAME file and the UMD_DATA.BIN file into UMDGen. and it does it's thing saving it as an ISO file. But my problem is when i go to retrive my newly minted ISO it shows up as a winrar archive. But it's not a rar file...or is it?

Do i need to then unzip it again!? Of is it just wrongly listed? As long as the file extension ends in .iso, it's an ISO file correct? So in theory i could just slide that over to my GAME folder in the PSP's root...right? This is very confusing. I've followed your walk through...but this part is not covered.

kewl beans, that was making me friggin' crazy. And does it go into the ISO folder on a slim PSP?
I read elsewhere in a "how-to" stickied here that for slims...all game files have go into the Slim PSP's Game folder in the root. Does it really even matter...Since fat or slim it's all the same FW anyway?

@jookycola

The reason that the .iso file is listed as a "WinRar" file is because you have WinRar set to be the default program for .iso files. So even though it is a .iso file it will have the WinRar icon, which is fine as long as the file extension is .iso. Also the question about the Slim PSP's and the GAME folder. The original PSP's had a GAME, GAME150, and GAMEX.XX folder. THe GAME150 folder was for homebrew that needed to be run under the 1.5 kernel and the GAMEX.XX folder was for homebrew that could run under the higher firmware. And the GAME folder was a common folder, you would set the kernel, either 1.50 or X.XX) for the GAME folder in the recovery menu. Now the Slim PSP's can't use the 1.5 kernel period so there is no GAME150 folder, and since there is only one kernel there is no GAMEX.XX folder all that is needed is a GAME folder because everythings run under the same kernel.

@jp282002

That sounds like a bad firmware flash. I would reinstall the M33 firmware you are using.

Oh no, it's a good flash, don't get me wrong. I just wanted to clarify if that info was correct. I made my ISO folder and everything works perfect. I just spent hours...like a total boob using UMDGen to compress then i'd see it as a winrar file so i'd unzip it again. over and over.
HaHaHaHa.
can someone say...moron?
LOL.

Well now that i'm officially back in the thick of PSP modding again i guess my next question is. Is it possible to compress these ISO game files more and bring their size down at all? If not i'll be in the market for some 4gb MS's cause it looks like 2GB's just ain't gonna cut it. A friend said he just stores a bunch of 2giggers in the UMD drive. That sounds moronic to me though. Anyhow thank you guys for helping me.

No, you've got official firmware, stop hoping anything unsigned would ever work on official firmware (Apart from downgraders).

Fastloader would be useless anyway, it only plays games that require 1.00 or 1.50 firmware, meaning anything released in the last two+ years won't work with it.

Next thing; you can't mess up your PSP unless it's something to do with flashing (Which this is nothing near).

Though, you will need a Pandora Battery if you want to downgrade to play ISOs and CSOs.
