That's what he is saying. He would not use RAID0 for redundancy, because if one HDD fails, the other one is useless.

Quote: Internet servers require redundancy, RAID0 is the last thing I'd use.
This is what I was responding too!
"Internet servers require redundancy" Very true. "RAID O is the last thing I'd use." Say what? The two things have little in common other than more than one disk. One is for a cloned backup and the other is for performance. The statement implies that redundancy for servers somehow is a reason not to use RAID O for performance?

I think you mis-understood him.

His intent wasn't clearly stated or written into his use of language! Don't you think that a consideration of you doing a budget build as an Internet server in RAID O as a possible backup is a bit of a stretch?

RAID has always stood for a "Redundant Array of Independent Discs." The Wikipedia definition is wrong.

Basically you said that I might have an Internet server and I also mentioned RAID0. There was no other kind mentioned. He said that Raid0 for Internet Server is a bad idea.
IDK, I got the message. Let's not argue about this lol.

I never implied anything even close to that, but if you can show me the quote I will read it.
Quote: I also mentioned RAID0. There was no other kind mentioned
Agreed! So when did the use of an Internet server come into play as even an option?
I wasn't debating any of those points, but I have used and will use RAIDO as a performance option. It won't do a darned thing for back up, that is unless I clone my drive for that purpose.

I'm not against Sam, I like Sam, but sometimes he exceeds his experience with conjecture based on tidbits picked up on the web. That alone is not a problem, but when he uses it for debate, he isolates some of us who knows the difference. I've known Sam for years and I've always liked him. I like him now and hope that he knows that.

Shaf, you mind fixing that picture? There is a lot of empty white space you can delete out. I have a widescreen laptop and it still screws up my borders. Plus scrolling sideways is a pain with this thing :)

The only redundancy in your quote is the redundant question that you posted.
I didn't see a point in comparing your choice to run a RAID 0 to that of redundancy as a back up. They are two 180 degree concepts.

No Sam, the same heart! Remember when I irritated you to overclock you AMD processors and you were reluctant to do it? Your concern was legitimate when one looks at expense but you walked past that point anyway. That's why I made you a mod, you were concerned about what was in front of you, not what seems to be the right answer.

True when seeking truth!
Quote: Any objective person can see what I' talking about.
I'm not certain what you're or were talking about with your previous statements. All that we have in this world is the use of language. It's the bridge between ideas! I merely took what you said and what Sam said which weren't congruent, and then elucidated on their obvious differences.
I am bit of a perfectionist, a flaw which my wife was never able to overcome, but has learn to accept.
True! But it's easy to be stubborn when one is right!

Look through again. Basically we were talking about Raid0. Then YOU YOURSELF said it's needed for some things, among which you listed an Internet server.
Then Sam said, why use RAID0 for Internet Server? It's a bad idea.

I read through again and no where did I see a good description of what is a RAID.
It was this specific quote that attracted my attnention.
Quote: Internet servers require redundancy, RAID0 is the last thing I'd use.
Internet services do indeed require redundancy, but that kind of redundancy has absolutely nothing to do with RAID0. They are black and white services.

Going off this RAID topic.....I need some case fans.
Sammorris: Did you keep your blackline case fans, or did you replace them? I feel like I need better ventilation...
Can anyone recommend a high performance (and if possible, SILENT) 120mm fan I can get for the back and side of my case? And one for the TRUE as well?

Quote: .I need some case fans
To some degree what you will choose depends on your mother boards fan plugs. If you have more than one plug with 4 pins then you should choose a fan when possible with PWM (pulse width modulation) because it allows your system to control its speeds and ergo its noise.
Scythe makes a good silent fan with PWM.

Besides my CPU fan, I have one other 4 pin fan plug, so I will only be able to control the speed of one of my case fans.
Can you give me a link or the name of a good scythe fan (Will this also be good for the TRUE?)?
