The 1st card I got was bad, Don't know about the second one . But WinXP Recognizes it
How would one go about checking it ( the card )
As far as HDD and cables go all is well and Drive is Recognize when directly connected to the Motherboard
It will not Recognize either 2T Drive I've got. Gonna try a 1T next

omegaman7 : MONDAY I'll check with Roswell and Samsung to see what the problem is
in the mean time can You recommend a SATTA card with 4 connections that will definitely work
I'm going to need another card anyway for my other build. But I do need 4 SATA Lines
Also a link PLEASE

I've had a dead PCIe S-ATA card as well, same issue, wouldn't recognise any drives, just send it back, you get DOA ones from time to time as they're quite cheap, and presumably aren't QCed.

What are the odds of getting 2 in a row..Like I posted earlier WinXP recolonized it. But neither my Samsung 2-2Ts and WD 1T NOT recolonized
What would be an alternate 4 PLUG sata card rather then the Roswell
Newegg Revues show a pretty postive to this card

So you bought two cards and both are dead? Bad batches sometimes happen, typically if one product from many is bad, the others often are too. Rosewill isn't a real brand, it's just a covering that says newegg bought an OEM product from another manufacturer. I think Rosewill S-ATA cards are the same as the Newlink ones I bought.

I also talked to the ROSWELL Teck, so they have to be ROSWELL CARDS. Came in a roswell box

Same as you have. Windows recognises the card, but the card doesn't detect any drives.
Also, since it's an OEM product, Newegg (i.e. Rosewill) are responsible for the packaging, so they make the box. It's usually a Silicon Image OEM product.
Also, it's Rosewill not Roswell.

Rick, I wish I could be of more help. I've never owned a sata card. I desperately want one or more, and more hard drives than I can handle :D But it's not practical right now. If I were to buy a sata card, I would no doubt make it a promise card. I've heard good things about them, despite some of them having bad reviews. Promise seems to be the most revered in the forums ;) Promise is to sata controllers, Evga is to video cards, Western Digital is to Hard drives, etc.
I realize that the Promise cards are expensive, but we do get what we pay for eh ;)
Defective products can cause tiny bugs, and be fine for months, before they bite it hard. If your card is not working the way it should, I would return it. The Rosewill card you linked, has the 48-bit Logical Block Addressing, which allows for sizes over 137gb. I don't know what the limit of that addressing is. I think it may be exactly 2Tb. Don't quote me on that though :p It seems like I read somewhere that its more an OS limitation after 2Tb. I wonder if Windows 7 addresses that issue. Not that 2Tb drives aren't sufficient :p
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

Not really a valid analogy. I can't speak for Promise, but both the other companies have had severe QC problems in the past with certain products, neither of them are foolproof top tier brands (and before you ask, there isn't such a brand for hard disks).

LOL! Simply my opinion on what I've come across in the forums. Not only afterdawn, but forums like Tomshardware, even newegg reviews.

What do you mean by that?

Ha ha, of course. I've seen countless bad reviews for western digital. And I have had 2 of their drives act like they were going out. One was replaced rapidly, and the other was bought off ebay, so I won't be able to replace that one LOL! I suppose there's no perfect product. But machines don't make mistakes, humans do. If you get me ;)

Haha agreed. Remember the mass of Evga cards with blown caps? I do. I had two of them :P One 7600GT that lasted 11 months and the replacement that lasted 6 XD
Same for HDDs. Seen dead ones from every brand. Actually more WDs than anything but only because there are so many and they were old :P Still have to say the slimline style Seagates are my favorite. Not sure about reliability but man they do run cool :P

Other than that yeah AD is loading just fine here. Seem to remember regular issues with Firefox earlier in the site's history but not for a long while...

No issues with aD here lately. As for the Seagate drives, most of them were pretty bombproof, but Seagate's worst times were recent, as are Samsung's, as also have been some of WDs. If anything, HDDs in general are a lot less reliable than a few years ago.

Which is pretty disgusting if you ask me. I would rather spend 1,000$ on a drive that's damn near guaranteed to not fail, then 100$ on a drive that could quit a few years down the road. HDD's are highly important pieces of equipment. It's quite discouraging to read multiple bad reviews when searching for a means for archival of important data ;)
Which is why Raid 1 is a beauty ;) I'll likely be using it one day...

Used Raid 0 for a while but an MFT issue on one drive caused the whole thing to go kaput. Since then I've been just using single, separate drives. The ones I use most for storage are my secondary 7200.12 in my main rig and the two WD 1TB 5400RPM Green drives and I set the WDs to spin down after like 30 minutes of idle.
Oh yeah also have my WD MyBook 500GB USB and that usually stays plugged in as a permanent storage drive on my server unless I'm using it to move stuff.

Jeff, you leave the mybook plugged in? My brother and I find the 160gb model quite irritating. If windows has to query the drive, it usally takes ~5seconds to spin up, in which the system hangs. Though he's running windows 7 now. XP was worse. I suggested he only plug it in when he needs to transfer files. Because windows seems to query the drive in the oddest instances LOL!

That's only if the drive is set to spin down after a period of inactivity. That is true of internal hard drives as well.

Yeah it seems to spin up at odd times but I don't like to leave it running because it's tucked into a bookshelf :) It can be annoying at times but because the PC is mainly a file server with medium-ish gaming use I'm not too worried about it. Certainly wouldn't leave it running on my main rig.

Oman7,
I use Raid 1 quite frequently, since the majority of my customers are Accountants, Doctors and other professional people. The only down side is that when one drive fails, you really need the same size drive to clone the drive from the good one. A smaller one won't work, and a larger one will wind up only having usable space equal to the drive you clone. You can't clone to a partition either. Still, it's almost foolproof, and the likelihood of two drives going out at the same time, is pretty remote.
