To rick5446:

I use a product from a German company called "MARABU". It's called Klarlack, it's a colourless gloss transparent varnish, excellent results and dry in less than 5 mins. I have tried other sprays but this works for me beacuse of the fast drying time and the durable finish it produces. It's also available in a Matt finish.

I am unsure where you could buy this if you live outside of Germany, I get it from a local art store.

cdcover.cc has the most horrible quality of any of the cover/label sites.

I used it at first, but there are such better alternatives out there. Many of them I found through this thread even :)

There are a lot better in quality I will admit, but they seem to have the hard to find one's. I like Daproggers site best myself.

Personally i use http://daprogger.mine.nu/, or boosplaza but that has been off line i think for a few days. or i go to http://www.incomplete.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/covers.html

Not many covers at the mo but there is a very nice DIY tutorial available to have a go at your own. Failing that i use the newsgroups most of the authors from dvdcoverarts covers find there way there. The thing i find with covers.cc is the quality isnt there for a decent printout. Just my honest opinion as always each to there own.

Mayo

Don't be so quick to judge. I thought you were above that.
I wasn't making "smart arse comments", I was making a point.

This is a long thread and I have read a lot of it and the other cover sites I have found in this thread are quite lacking in content.

Is this how you welcome all newbies to the forum?

The point could be made that if you are backing up your own legal copy then you should already have the cover so you can scan it.

Well if that's not a smart arse comment then I am sorry, but at the least it is a dumbfounded point then. If you even read my post right above yours I did say Dapprogers was beter IMO. If you are that thin skined and can't take what is said in the forum then maybe you shouldn't make those sort of comments because I am sure any normal person is going to react to them the same way I have. I gladly welcome newbies to this site, and have helped a lot. I probly have also pissed a few off (very few) I am not one for bitting my tounge though and will speak my mind if you don't like that well then sorry, but I sure am not gonna change for you. If my wife of 20 years can't change me then no one here sure can.

Are you right clicking on the first smaller image and selecting save target as or are you opening the large picture and then saving it. It seems to be a little quicker if you just right click on the small image and select "Save target As". I can download a picture from there usually in 10 to 30 seconds some of them are pretty large 3000X3000, but that is why the quality is so good. :-) If you do a search for my name "bbmayo" while you are there you will see some of my covers that I have designed. :-)

I've had the R200 for about 8 months now without incident. It prints extremely good CD/DVD's with perfect alignment. It's paper printing quality, however, is sub-par compared to my Canon i70 printer. I still use my Canon for pictures and fine quality paper printing. The draft quality on the Epson is super fast, but set at a very poor draft quality, almost unreadable at times.

My recommendation: If you are looking for a DVD/CD printer, this is it, and it doesn't get any cheaper. I did read that the r300 has quicker printing speeds, but my DVD/CD's seem to print very fast none-the-less. The quality on both the 200 and 300 are identical.

Regarding inks: Yes, the Epson Ink is a rip-off. But I've received my ink thru two places:

PacificInk.com, which I used for my Canon makes great cartridges. But the two times I ordered from them for the Epson r200, they sent me cartridges that did not work. they looked the same, had the r200/r300 designation label but had a very slight difference in the latching lip on the cartridge. I had to send them back both times.

I bought my ink from allmediaoutlet.com and was very happy with both the price and quality.

I have perhaps printed on about 100+ DVD/CDs, and on a few the printer reports back that it can't print to the disk due to alignment. I found that the tray may need a slight nudge past the rollers on occasion. Not enough to cause any real concern, after all the printer is less than new ink, and it's not like you going to use it to mass produce, right?

Don't make the mistake I made and place it up against a wall or backside of your desk. This printer requires a clearence in back of several inches for the CD tray to extend while in operation.

I've also used silver topped printable CDs which gives off a beautiful finish. Wherever the white base was meant to show thru, instead you get this irridescent silvery glow, very cool. The dots, however, are easier to see with this type of media.

Yes, you can print onto CD labels, but why when printing directly onto the CD is so much better. This printer will not rub any more than any other inkjet will rub off on photo or plain paper. The first few minutes after printing are the most suseptable, but nearly impossible to smudge afterwards unless you get it wet (like any other inkjet printer).

One last point. The r200 (and I assume the r300) upon it's start up, does take some time to cycle the ink cartridges and makes a lot of fuss and noise before actual output. I think it takes a minute or more just to start printing (after it's power has been turned on). For this, I leave it on 24/7.

Doofy I just use Adobe Photo Shop for all my work, and when I use the Epson Print CD program that came with my R200 I just select the images as the background and it adjust the size all by itself.

I believe Nero has a cover designer you can use and also if you go to cdcovers.cc.com they have some free software you can give them a try.

Got you beat on ink for the Epson Stylus Photo R200 and R300.....

Abacus Private Store at private.abacus24-7.com is
6 pack set is 16.85 with 4.95 freight for a total of 21.80.
Works great. I have used lots of these cartridges and not a problem.

Have not found ink anywhere that beats this price.
