I'll definitely be looking into putting a fan there. Shame I can't put that chipset in the liquid loop. Then I could really crank the overclock ;) If the cpu is only hitting 42-44C, I have some decent headroom :D

To be fair, the 1900rpm slipstreams, when mounted somewhere relatively free from vibrations, are very quiet for what they do. They're not as loud as the FM121s were at the same speed I don't think.

You have to be kidding me! The 1900 rpm slipstream is 37dBA, the FN-121 is 700 rpm slower at 1200 rpm, and only 26.6 dBA. It actually shows as 24.5dBA in the Anechoic Chamber. Of course it doesn't move 110 cfm either, only 53.7! Then again, it had been in use for about a year before it was tested, but that shouldn't matter as it's not ball bearing :)
I would imagine if you lowered the fan speed on the Slipstream to 1200 rpm, it still wouldn't be quite as quiet as the FN-121. When I built this computer the FN-121 was the second quietest fan in the computer by a wide margin, next to the Kama Bay's 30 cfm, 800 rpm fan. Even then I was pretty sure that the 26.6dBA figure was a little high, as you just couldn't hear it from 2 feet away, powered by an external PSU. So smooth and vibration free too. Maybe I got one built on a Wednesday! LOL!!

Like I told 3kJodo, don't use the one from the 965. It's slightly thinner and doesn't move near as much air as the ones from the aluminum block coolers. The fan is a Foxconn, 9 blade and moves lots of air quietly. I'm going to have to move my Cooler Master fan back into the lower fan spot on the front of my case, as the Silverstone FN-121 doesn't have enough head pressure to cool the HDDs as good as the Cooler master did! UGH! That means I have to pull the HDD bay to do it. I may try the 40 cfm 800 rpm Scythe Slipstream in my Kama bay in place of the 30 cfm 800 rpm fan that came with it, while I'm at it. I'll be starting that new build for my friend up in Mass next week, so my new ODDs should be here, so I might as well do everything at the same time. At least I can ship it with the CPU cooler attached. I couldn't do that with the Freezer 7 for Gina, as the push pins would have broken. I'm also upgrading the memory in Oxi, as when Russell is playing AOE II, and all the armies are at full strength, it runs out of nmemory, as there's only 2x1GB of ram in it. I got a good deal on some GeIL black Dragon ram, 2x2GB for $86.

Well, no offense, but the FM121 is the fan you were fond of for ages before replacing it with the FN. The FM is the one that was 2400rpm with the 3.5" bay controller. I was just using it as an example as it is the only other fan I've had that does at least the 1900rpm speed of the scythe with more than 7 blades. I'm well aware the FN121 can't do 1900rpm.

Thanks Sam. You had me worried for a moment. I though I'd gone "Round the Bend"! :)
I used to run that fan between 1300 and 1400 rpm. Full tilt was more noise than any man should have to endure! 37dBA is loud!

My mom recently went to a yard sale that had oodles of PC stuff. She wishes I was there to see it. I guess I wish I was there too LOL!
But she brought me home multiple pc screws, multiple fans/heatsinks, and a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz processor still attached to the heatsink. I wonder if one of those fans will serve the purpose.
This is my current stockpile

Looks like the mysterious Flash drive printer bug is back. I plugged my kingston 16Gb drive into the BACK of the tower, and for whatever reason, my printer no longer receives data. At least it wasn't in the middle of a print job this time :p Very weird. The 16Gb kingston is the only one that effects the printer. No other flash drive has caused it. So somehow, its disrupting the printers connectivity...
I wonder if anyone else has experienced this with the following drive

Fair enough. If any USB peripheral interrupts of any of the others, and it's only that peripheral that does it, it usually suggests a USB fault with said peripheral. This is actually quite common, my cheap nasty USB enclosure does it.

Oman7,
Measure those 60mm fans. They look more like a 70mm to me. A 70mm x 15mm is 2.75" x 19/32"

OCZ Unveil new 'affordable' PCI-E SSD drive.

Anyone know anything about these badboys ?. I know virtually nothing about SSD's myself, but we're looking at some of the above to replace our current SSD drives for the firm's MySQL database, they seem rather tasty, and blisteringly fast

I measured in exactly millimeters. I have a lovely little ruler, that measures both Metric, and Standard inches. What are the measurements of the fan you're using russ? You say you don't use the 965's stock, I'm not sure what fan you ARE using ;) Likely you've mentioned it before, and it's slipped my mind :S
Wow creaky! That sucker sounds highly impressive.

Is that PCIe 4x slot 2.0 spec? Assuming it is, there's 2GB/s of bandwidth to play around with, ample for the rated speeds. With Sandforce controllers, the random access performance should be pretty good as well. If all you need is 480GB of space (ample for most uses where this level of bandwidth is required) then it sounds like a solid purchase.

It's all gobbledegook to me at the moment, SSD's and databases. Am going on a MySQL course in a few months and i've yet to properly look into how our MySQL system is configured, the database replicates across 2 or 4 servers plus there's the webservers and all associated gubbins. The database itself lives on one or more pairs of SSD drives, the idea is to possibly upgrade from those to the OCZ cards

Grim ?, i take it you mean the course; no, (well i hope not!), but it'll be a bit different to what i'm usxed to i guess. Then there's php scripting to get into after that, which should hopefully just be an extension of my Unix & linux scripting, and loads more stuff that i wouldn't normally do. This new job means i'm finally working with all the Windows Active directory/Windows server stuff (which i'd never done before), as i expected that side of things is a piece of cake, but i'll certainly have my hands full with MySQL and php. But i'm always busy linux scripting for now in between other stuff, that's keeping the grey cells exercised 'til i go on the course.
Had just never been interested in SSD's before, as work uses them i'll be looking into how they work at some point. We are also about to undertake a project to see if we can find an alternative to the current (linux sendmail) mail server, and then migrate to the new one when we have found something and tested it, we're looking at something called Zimbra.

Oh sorry :). Just don't get much chance to drop by AD much nowadays so i thought i'd best explain my absence LOL. Was just wondering if the SSD PCIe cards sounded (to you guys) much different from normal SSD drives being as such technology is alien to me at the moment, i tend to only bother researching some things as and when they land on my radar.
