Thank you Wolfie! I don't know how I was supposed to figure out that I had to name the rename the file. Did it say that somewhere? Anwyay I think it's important to note that the iso file the patch created was the same size as the original. NOT 1.8 gb as with the other method. I FINALLY got it working by
1. Creating an ISO file with DVD decrypter
2. renaming the ISO file ptc-merc.
3. Installing the patch in the same directory as the iso file
4. Applying the patch
5. Taking the newly created ISO file now called DKC-merc or something like that, and burning it with Nero.

Anything can be done, it's just a matter of knowing how to do it.

As long as your using good quality media, you shouldn't need to change any settings in Nero.

I'd recommend using DVD Decrypter to burn all PS2 iso's.

The game should work fine as long as you take the right steps according to all the info here.

If you copy the game from the original:
1. Use DVD Decrypter to decrypt it to the HD, make sure you call the iso ptc-merc.iso

2. Download the Mercenaries Patch from DVDRick, here:
http://home.t-online.de/home/520071421715/NOMOD/Mercenaries_Playground_of_Destruction_USA_PS2-PROTOCOL-SMFIX_DVDRick.zip

3. Extract the Mercenaries patch to the directory with the ptc-merc.iso

4. Run the patch. You'll need around 9GB free space.

5. Wait for it to finish and create a NEW .iso file.

6. Burn the new .iso file with DVD Decrpyter.

If your burning the -PROTOCOL 'backup' then:

1. Extract the ptc-merc.iso from the RAR's

2. Follow steps 2 to 6 of the above instructions.

Perhaps someone who got it working can help me out on the PPF patch :/

I've been hosting the patch since like page 4 or 5 and you can find it here: http://blake.prohosting.com/wulfie66/merc.zip Just unzip it to the same dir as your iso, making sure that the iso is named ptc-merc. Run the patch and it'll create yet another iso. Just burn this with Nero and you'll be good to go. It works like a champ here on my v7 PS2 with flip-top

ps2 v7 with matrix infinity and 160gb hdd
pioneer a05 dvd-rw
Nero Burning Rom
Windows XP Pro
psp with 3.40oe-a custom firmware
Gamecube with SD Media launcher, SD Gecko, and Action Replay.

Wulfie66, yeah I know thats originally where I got the patch, but as I said in my other post in this thread, I was wondering if someone could do a PPF patch AFTER they had applied the DVDRick patch.

I don't have 9GB free HD space since I only have a 20GB HD and so I can't apply the DVDRick patch.

But in theory I shouldn't need to if someone could just make a PPF patch by using the original PROTOCOL release and the patched DVDRick iso.

That new PPF patch wouldn't need 9GB HD space and it wouldn't take as long as DVDRicks either.

In theory.

Hey guys I could use a little help with this game as well. I copied with DVD Decrypter, and renamed it ptc-merc, downloaded the patch to the same folder and ran it. While it was running it gave an error and it only took about two seconds to run. Extracted the new iso file a folder and I get an error invailed or unsupported image file. Any info would be great :)

Has anyone actually played this game all the way through using the patched iso method? I've patched the way described rebuilding it with cd/dvdgen, and I've also used the p$2ownz method with the all-in-one patch. The game will play fine (other than minor audio glitches) until I try the ace of clubs contract. I can play through the ace level until the point where I blow up the armored building with the bunker buster bomb, and the game freezes every time. It freezes on both the manually patched, and the ownz patched versions. Anyone have any ideas?

I forgot: dms3+, v5, tried ritek g05, cheap teon cmc's, and tdk's. going broke making coasters.
