thanks
I personally like both drives. There's some mixed reviews on the Pioneer 112D but it's been good for me so far. Take into consideration that I've only burned about 100 discs with it so far. :)
If I was to get one right now, knowing what I know, I would get the Lite-on LH-20A1S for a few reasons. It scans great, like hobbit said...it booktypes out of the box, it is SATA interface, and it's a Lite-on and therefor will have pretty good support with the efforts of c0deKing at CDFreaks. The 'new' f/w version works well for me and I like the drive.
DON'T get me wrong the Pioneer 112D is good but there are some things it doesn't do so well. It has some problems with burning media at the max rate but for quality burns it's ok with me.
I'll post some Nero scans later from both drives and let you see what you think about each drive. Like I said, "both drives are good to me".

Sickley you should get the Samsung SH-203B right now from Newegg.com. I think it's $30.99 delivered out of Cali. That's a great deal. I paid $32.99 plus shipping just 3 days ago right before the sale. I wonder if they will refund some of my $$$. Sorry thinking out loud. LOL.
Oh forgot!!
@born2ride,
I would look at replacing that Sony combo drive with something else. I couldn't find updated f/w for it at the few places that would have it. Is it a new drive??? Anyway with all these "cheap" drives you can get something GOOD and inexpensive at the same time. I just mentioned the Samsung (sorry don't have it yet) and the Lite-on LH-20A1S is a good 'un too. :D
On the LG that you have right now, I don't know much about it either. I think that LG makes a good drive but I'm not real familiar with the different models and such. They don't scan but I think you already knew that. :)
Here's a link to Newegg and the burners available now....

That's why sasQuatches are Nocturnal Rob !!!! It's been Ungodly hot here this month ( dog days of August ) Living in the swamplands & being Fat & furry ain't No picnic when the heat index is like 107!!!! But luckily for me & She-sQuatch the cave has central air amongst other amenities ! ON the DVD Burner front my Nec's & The BenQ 1655 are still rolling right along so I think I'll keep them for now when one dies then it's Decision's , decisons ? maybe a Lite-On LH-20A1S or something in a sexy Plexy ? Unfortunately the old emachines isn't set up with sata right now so I may need adapter cards or whatever or just get a non sata drive ? I still have time to think about that for a while atleast ! Well that's it for now gang see'ya's later

aabbccdd- Sorry to hear about your 716 going to the big parts bin in the sky !!! But hey Your getting THREE new PX-810S as a replacement so that should ease the Bereavement somewhat !! Damn though you must have some computer case though ? {Size-wise} My scrawny little Emachine has only two spaces for burners and both are filled ! I can access a third though My old Nec 2500A that I made into an external . But I only ocasionally use that drive for simultaneous burns ! Xmas is coming though & a birthdady too !!so I suppose I could be upgrading something LOL!!!!!!

I burned that one with Nero 6. Amazingly, with the SATA burner, Nero 6 is allowing me to select burning speed for this DL disc! It used to MAX out and grey out the speed selection before.
Both burns were disc to disc copies but with differences. The DL burn was with having an image stored on my SATA harddrive while the TY burn was a straight disc to disc copy on the fly.

Yep, that's the one I just got and hobbitt as well I think. :) I won't tell you what I paid for it tho. :P
I've had great luck with mine so far and posted a few scans this morning. Some from the LH-20A1S and the Pioneer DVR-112L.
I think that you will like the drive just fine and installation is so simple a Cave Man can do it. LOL.

My SATA burner is the first one in greensman's list, the Lite-On LH-20A1S. I've done 2 burns and I already love it.
(thanks for the post gm)
BTW, I'm seeing my jitter reduced on the new SATA burner by about 20-30% over my IDE Lite-On LH-20A1H.

Have you done a heads-up burning comparison of your LH-20A1S and your Pioneer DVR-112D and/or other burners? i.e., run same day/night, same data, same disc media and same scan setup?

Check the scan thread. The second and third post are the same data, same media, same speed, same scanner.
There is a TYG02 burn there too. I'll post some more TY's and some more comparison burns just for you buddy. :)
