i honest think the px-716 is irreplaceable.
actually i thing the PX-810SA will be good drives we will see in about 6 months or tourer lol,Getting them this Sat.

If you're gonna do SATA interface I would do the Lite-on LH-20A1S if you don't care about LS capabilities. If you need LS then the Lite-on LH-20A1L. This is assuming you are gonna stay with the Lite-on brand. I don't have much experience outside of that. I have a Samsung, LG, and 2 Sony NEC Optiarc's coming but I haven't done anything with them yet. From what I've read and what zebadee has said the Sammy is your best bet for speed ATM. You might do some reading and see what you come up with but that's my 2 cents. :D
On TY's for speed. Either of the +-R's will do in the 16X version. I haven't used the YUDEN000T03 (DVD+R 16X Taiyo Yuden) yet but I'm sure they are dang good. Cincyrob and Hobbitt have used a few, hopefully they will say something positive. :) The TYG03 (DVD-R 16X Taiyo Yuden) I've used plenty of and they perform just fine. You can smoke them babies out at 16X all day long with a clean and smooth system. I've done a few and the worst QS I've gotten w/o me messing up the burn is a 84 I think. I've seen some of these people get 93's and 95's on a consistent basis. (ooops other forum but you know what I meant)

You might have me confused with HOBBITT. He has the LS capable drive not me. For some reason it doesn't interest me. The discs are a little higher and the image doesn't look all that great to me. NOW printable discs on the other hand are really cool. ME friends cincyrob and hobbitt have a disc printer friendly device and I've seen the outcome. It's SWEET to say the least. :)

I got my r340 just before they came out with the r380. Am currently using generic inks from Meritline, can't beat the price.
Are you using the Claria ink or have you started using generic refills? If you are using/have used refills, how does the color compare with the Claria inks?

I've got the 260 and just switched over to the generic ink from the Claria and don't see enough difference to warrant the price difference for covers and discs. The speed of this 260 over my 340 and 220 is twice as fast if not faster.I've had no trouble with the disc slide as yet maybe because it doesn't pass all the way through. Since this is Doc's thread my Tys just love the Epsons. Chris

I have been using the TY Silver printables and was wondering if the Claria inks produced a more defined and/or richer depth of color than the generics and/or the older inks available for the older , i.e., r340, epson printers. I was also curious if the cartridge was the same ast the r340. I know they are marketed separately but I was wondering if anyone had tried using them in the older printers.

Hey all, just making a post to get myself on the update list for the new DocTY thread, and can actually post a few things pertinent to the thread! How about that, huh? ;) Ok, so I've got my system stable now at 3.5GHz with an E6600, running Vista x64 with 4GB of RAM and it's purring quite nicely! Just upgraded my case not too long ago to the one aabbccdd's had for awhile (Antec Nine Hundred), and it's wonderful. I'm sure it is the main reason I have been able to hit such a high OC on air alone (although the Zalman 9500 certainly does it's job well, also!). So, the system is quite happy, and it treats my Benq 1655 and my Lite-On 1696S with TLC!
As I posted in a media thread, I did end up finally getting some White, hub printable TY DVD-Rs, and since I was getting a lot (200, which is a lot, to me, I don't go through them that fast), I spent a few extra pennies and got the Premium line. I MIGHT drop down to the value line if the deal is good enough, but when I was shopping, it was only about .04 per disc, and that wasn't enough to risk it. So, I've burned about 18 of them so far, and they are working very well. They load up very quickly in my standalone players and disc transitions are very fast, even faster than the DVD+Rs I've used. The quality scans are very good also, with 95 and 98 being the norm (PIFs rarely above 1, with a 2 here and there).
As for the printing (and here's where we get more toward the current discussion), I've been using my initial cartridges (Claria ink) set to photo quality for my printing, and I'm very happy with the results. I do have some G&G cartridges sitting in the wings for when these run out, but I'm more concerned about how my actual photos will turn out than the discs. Still, if the ink smears such that I can notice it, I'm going to be sure and let you all know!
So, all in all, I'm VERY pleased with how things are going so far. I must again thank all the kind people here at AD for the suggestions (which is how I ended up buying an RX580, how I was willing to take a chance on generic ink, and how I finally decided which printable media to buy. That last one was tough. It was difficult moving away from DVD+Rs, but I can say that on my current standalones (Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Philips DVP5960, and JVC (can't recall model)), the TYs work without a hitch.
I would like to ask, though, for those who have some experience, how the Valueline printable TY's have been working for you. I've seen some bad reviews, but I'm willing to bet that some other factor besides the media alone could be contributing to those low scores. So, anyone here who can let me know how their experience has been with Valueline printables?
Thanks in advance!

I have used about 500 of the valueline and find that they work as well as the premium. On printing: I have an epson R320 and have used both G&G and LD from sms. I find that they work just as well as the epson ink and cost at least half as much.My printer makes the disc look as if it was done professionallyl. I go to Amazon and find the movie, hit the enlarge button, save it to a file and then call that file into my epson printer, fit to the disc on the software and print it. If you are doing a series you can even number them.

Thanks frbernard, good to hear you've had such great success with the Valueline. 500 is certainly enough for me to feel comfortable trying some myself. I've been burning them on my Lite-On currently. Anyone have a preference for the DVD-R media between a Benq and a Litey? I have found the Litey does worse on the DVD+Rs, but does extremely well on the DVD-Rs. I'm not sure if the reverse is true for the Benq, as I was pretty much fulltime DVD+Rs when it arrived.

I have used the valueline ty's for almost two years now and never had a problem, also helps to get them from a reliable outlet like SMS, meaning supermediastore.com

I'm still leaning to the +R Format for everything due to the fact (hich I've heard before) that Booktyped DVDs have a 97%+ compatability with players vrs the DVD-Rs.

@Fredbun, herrick: Thanks for some more positive reviews of the valueline media. I'm definitely going to give it a try the next time I order a set, and yes, I agree, SMS is a really great store. I've ordered my last three sets of TY media from them, and I'll probably order all of my future media from them, also. They're fast, reliable, and have very good prices!
@herrick: I agree, cdcovers.cc is an amazing site. I discovered it while testing out my first few printables and was able to find most of what I was looking for.
@hobbit112: I probably would be doing that, also, if it weren't for the fact that printable DVD+Rs are about ten cents more apiece than comparable DVD-Rs. Now, if I really needed that compatibility (which for personal use, I don't, as everything I own seems to play DVD-Rs just fine), I would certainly pay the extra for +Rs.
