Something strange I noticed. I used the softmod here, and my retail copy of Silent Hill showed up in the disk channel. Now its showing an Update Wii notification in that channels window. It wasnt doing that before. Im at 4.2U btw.

All I can say is try it. If you have issues then get a 2GB SD Card.

Follow the DOWNGRADE IOS15, PATCH IOS36 and RESTORE IOS15 steps again (make sure there is no error). Then try installing cIOS38_rev14.
Originally posted by jbfoster: I installed the files onto the SD card per instructions but when I select SD Card icon no message says "Load Boot dol/elf?"
I upgraded to version 4.2U
Does the folders need to be on the SD card?
I had to format the card to FAT32.
Thanks
This is the lamest questions I have ever read. Of course you have to have the softmod files on the SD card. How else are you going to do anything!

Follow the DOP-IOS part of the guide.

All the IOS's are up to date. I can still launch my reatil game but its strange how it was showing before with the SoftMod, but now its saying update. Wii24 is off but it did get turned on for a minute. Could that be it? If so ill just have to wait till a new ISO patch is out to remedy this minor inconvenience right?
Thanks.
Oh I was also wondering if you have a "Remove Softmodding guide" made. I have yet to see one. Just in case anyone wants to Virginize their Wii.

Thanks for the response Larry. I went ahead and used a microSD with adapter (PNY Brand) anyway and didn't get any errors. I'm all setup and ready to go.
I know this isn't part of your guide but I was wondering if you would recommend using PriiLoader for those of us having to install BootMii as IOS? I heard that it's useful but wanted to hear your thoughts.

As far as I know IOS222/223/249/250 should have stubs installed when updated to 4.2 firmware. So if your on 4.2 firmware I would assume you should have them in the System Titles somewhere.
m new at this stuff... i tried doin stuff accordin to this discription.. everythin was fine till i reached ANY TITLE DELETER,... here i dont c any of the files u ppl have asked to delete.. is IOS22 the same as 222???? mine is a LU65 with 4.2u... a lil help here would be useful

Is there a way to undo every thing to where the Wii is back to it's original state?
Thanks

Not sure if I am doing something wrong... but every time I try to downgrade IOS15, it fails.
This is what I get:
<Load IOS from sd card>
Checking titleid and revision...
Loading contents...done
Reading file into memory complete.
Decrypting IOS...
Checking hashes...
Wrong hash for content #2
Could not open file: sd:/IOS15-64-v523.wad.out.wad
Error reading IOS into memory
Downgrade failed
Press any button to exit...
Any help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I accidentally deleted IOS22. Is this a problem? I must have been distracted and had mistaken it for IOS222 (which I later deleted) BTW Great guide! Everything worked and I am now playing my backup of New Super Mario Bros! Still... I am concerned about my accidental deletion of IOS22 though there are no problems without it. Please tell me how to get it back just in case. Thanks again.

Hi Larrylje! I successfully softmodded my wii some months back with your 4.1 guide. I would like to update my system using your 4.2 guide. Unfortunately, I am stuck at the very beginning of your guide. When I tried to run the 4.2 firmware update, I get error 32017 unable to update. My system now says 4.2, but the shop channel asks me to update. So I know the 4.2 update was not successful. I have searched and searched for a solution to this problem, but it seems the only instruction I can find is to call Nintendo. I would like to avoid doing this if at all possible. Do you know of this problem? If so I would really appreciate you pointing me in the direction of a fix. Thanks in advance for your help.
Your guides are great by the way. Thanks for them!
Nick

See everyone. 4.2 is not as bad as everyone eggsagerates about. You can use usbloader, etc. All versions are officially moddable. But no downgrading is possible and no bootup from boot2 :).

Newbie here...I'm sorry If I am asking a dumb question, but I just got my wii and am trying to follow the guide. Before I start, I wanted to make sure I understood correctly. Everything seems pretty straighforward until I get to the part in red text concerning the DOP-IOS MOD.
"ALL SYSTEMS/SERIAL # CAN USE DOP-IOS. THOSE WITH LU64, LEH250 OR LAH113 AND ABOVE CAN USE THIS APPLICATION. DO NOT DOWNGRADE ANY IOS OR FIRMWARE. INSTALL & PATCH THE LATEST IOS REVISION AVAILABLE INSTEAD OF DOWNGRADING TO A LOWER REVISION. DOWNGRADING TO A LOWER REVISION MAY BRICK YOUR SYSTEM!"
Does this mean that I should not downgrade the IOS in the preceding steps, or is this referring to the steps that occur later that are listed under "DOP-IOS MOD?" My serial starts with LU70, so I think this applies to me. Again, I'm sorry if this is obvious, but I would hate to brick my shiny new wii! :)
Thanks for your help!

following the guide to a T and havent had any issues until now.
this wii is less then a month old, just updated firmware to 4.2u last night, when i run the title deleter, i get thru the few errors, select system titles, and try to delete IOS222,IOS223,IOS249,IOS250. they all get errors and wont delete, Error! ISFS_Delete(ret = -102) press any key... it does that on all 4 of the IOS's.

think i found the problem, i went back and started over with the downgrade of IOS15, that worked fine with no problems, when i try to patch IOS36 it fails. Its hard for me to read what its saying cause its kinda blurry, but, ES_AddTitleStart returned: -2011
You need to use an IOS with trucha bug.
Thats what the IOS15 downgrade is good for...
IOS36 intallation failed.
stumped

Ok, got this figured out, the problem for me was in the downgrade and patch part, hard to see the screen cause its fuzzy, but i was on the wrong iso. i did a reboot, updated again, did a small update, HBC was still there, and i started it over at the downgrade and all went well, and i was able to delete the 4 IOS's. moving on, dis regaurd my posts :)

Is there realy a point of installing BootMii as an IOS if it wont install as Boot2?
As I understand it, BootMii is there to let you Backup the NAND Flash but if BootMii is install as IOS you can not restore the image...
So.....Why backing it up if you can't restore it? or am I mising something?
Be a survivor or die...

Honestly, No. My wii bricked and you cannot use it :(. Whats just as good is cios-corp and dop-ios. And also trucha bug. These things will alow you to run a boot-disc like UUD. I highly recomend everyone to get those. Also, there is a bootmii bootup disc so if you backed-up your nand then you can restore it via bootmii-bootup disc. Supposedly, anecdotally.

I haven't bought my Wii yet. Do these newer systems have different serial numbers? (Something that will tip me off before I buy it?)

Hi
Can someone please help me. I'm having the same issue as another poster and it remains unsolved as far as I'm aware.
Trying to downgrade ios15 after load from SD card I get:
Could not open file: sd:/ios15-64-v523.wad
Could not open file: sd:/ios15-64-v523.wad.out.wad
error reading ios into memory
Downgrade failed Press any button to exit.
I have a new Wii ver4.2E and want to be able to play from usb. Do I need to do every step in the guide for this. I skipped the gamecube part as I had no controller so couldn't move, even with reset/power/eject.

Does anyone know specifically what I need to do differently than described in the guide since my wii is LU70? I guess I don't understand what part of the guide this partains to:
"DO NOT DOWNGRADE ANY IOS OR FIRMWARE. INSTALL & PATCH THE LATEST IOS REVISION AVAILABLE INSTEAD OF DOWNGRADING TO A LOWER REVISION."
Thanks!
