If they're going to use DVD Shrink with Deep Analysis and high quality settings they should definately be looking this way. Batch mode removes all the objections.

Hey guys, totally agree but I'm puzzled about one thing. When I use shrink with the quality settings and deep analysis it's only taking about 1 1/2 hours. Is everyone experiencing these 2 to 3 hour back ups?
I just did Hidalgo and it took 1 hour and 20 minutes, this is a 2 hour and 20 minute movie( i also left in one extra of 9 minutes). Ya know if ya use shrink at 80% or less the quality is pretty darn good. I still like remake with IC 8 also up to about 35% and of course RB/CCE over that, haven't tried batch yet, but plan to. I think sometimes I get bored doing the same thing over and over, anyone else have that problem?

Geez...it's after 10 PM PMT, and your post just hit the boards. I guess you're just getting up. Get out the garlic.

Yeah, when that happens I just go buy some more software.
I get a 2-1/2 hour backup with a 7.5 to 8 GB DVD with my P2.6. LOTR-Return is a good example. I also have 512 MB of RAM, but only 360 max gets used. I never have gone to 3 hours for encoding/deep analysis.
'Good to have your back. Are you ready for College football to start? 'Found out Karen2003 is a U of Mich grad. We'll have to send some grief her way once things start up. :)

Hey doc, good to be back. I have same amt. of ram, P2.8, but still, we're looking at an hour's difference! Strange.
I am salivating over F-ball, can't wait! Michigan? ugh, er.... no comment. lol We just got several top recruits which should turn our season around, right now, we're picked 4th in the SEC, 11th to 12th in the nation. What's that say about the SEC?
BTW, I have been up all day, thank you very much.(been helping my wife set up her classroom, ugh, no fun, no choice).

This is interesting. We'll have to do a time trial some afternoon/evening with the same DVD. We could agree on a certain start time, and the first one to finish posts first, and waits for the other guy. What do you think?
(I figured the reason you didn't say anything about my cure for boredom is because you own a copy of every software already!)

OK. For choices there is the old standby LOTR-Return at 7.9 GB. I have all of LOTR that I need, though. Runaway Jury and The Human Stain just arrived in the mail today, and those are probably good medium-range choices. What do you suggest?
BTW, I hear X Copy knocks the socks off all the others.

I still find that DVD Shrinks picture is a bit soft and I haven't used it since beta testing ended. I didn't have any 2 or 3 hour backups using it but others have. The point that we were making is that with DVD-RB in batch mode we can backup 2 or 3 movies while we sleep.

With RBfarm running, DVDshrink loses the time battle by a large margin. Its pretty cool. I'm still playing with the setup but I like it.
I just need more electrical outlets and breakers.
Thanks Vurbal

Hey soph, yeah, I understand the point, I just thought it curious shrink taking so long on a lot of other PC's. It's not like I have some mega-super duper-CIA comparable-PC. Just a little Dell 4600. That's all.
You know my favorite is RB/CCE, but I do like the new shrink at lower compressions. As I said, I intend to try RB/CCE using the batch method but I don't think I'll go to any one method exclusively, I like variety(as long as the quality measures up)and you know I'm still a big fan of IC 8/DVDremake.....
I would like to see some results with Procoder. BTW, you can buy a lot of DVD9 media for 400 smackaroos, now that they're down to 9.00 apiece.
Hey doc, I'm gonna buy some new ones today, (they always come out on Tuesday)and I'll get back to ya. I, like you, am sick to death of LOTR-any of them-too much testing. Kinda like soph with Daredevil, heh heh.
X Copy the best, huh? I'll have to get it today, NOT! lol

@ bigorange ... ProCoder is actually an external USB device. Your wife could get you an academic discount on ebay for $259 plus S&H. But then you couldn't hide it from her. :)

Our 'puters are comparable, so we should get about the same time results with the same Shrink settings. This is more of a curiosity to me now, though. After I got Batch figured out, I went through a perspecetive shift. The time factor has become irrelevant. It's now more time-efficient to use RB-CCE on everything but DVD-5's. Even the kid's trash is Batched.
@64026402 ... you and vurbal may have to bring the rest of us along on RB Farm. The batch feature is great, but the increased speed must be a lot of fun also. How much do you have hooked up so far, and what kind of times are you getting?

Hey doc, thanx for the info on procoder, I had seen where ya'll had talked about it when I got back and didn't realize it was an external device. The 1st I'd even heard about it was when I read about here day before yesterday.
BTW, what-da-ya mean I couldn't keep it from the wife? You don't think I need her permission do ya?
(I hope she didn't hear that)
We'll start our little test when I get back this evening.

I think the USB port is for a dongle. I hate dongles.
I have heard from some sources, though, the ProCoder really shines on interlaced encoding.

It looks like I'm mistaken. I saw the USB, and the box, and presumed it was external. It looks more like a S/W app now. I can't figure out what the dongle is for? DV input or something?

It's just a hardware key, to make sure you can't copy it.

It's a software program. It ONLY works if you have the dongle inserted in one of your USB ports. If you somehow obtained a copy of the software but you don't have the dongle, you would not be able to use the software.

Its software just as "siber (the lurker} stated.
Siber have you been following our experiences using DVD-RB batch processing? I just did 5 movies all at once with out a problem. DVD-RB/CCE Basic might be slow but it?s convenience more than makes up for that.

It has a following that is not unlike that of CCE and there are claims that it might even be better. It should be considering its price. I almost bought it, but after a cup of coffee and walk around my garden I came to my senses.

RBfarm just did a 7.3 gig movie with a 25 minute encode time. It is nice because the computers used for clients can be just minimal slave units with few resources. It just uses the CPU time and some network bandwidth.
I used 3 dual AMD computers. I might add another if I can come up with better power distribution for my office.
I'll try LOTR2 next to test it out.

soph, we must admit we have a problem. You have shown restraint, gasp, so coffee and a walk is the key, huh?
There is a demo version coming out, albeit with a watermark, might be prudent to check it out.
You're kinda like my own personal google, I don't need to look, just wait for you to find it, which, I'm confident you will. heh heh
