The best thing that came out of xcopy for me was finding this site.I would have used that money to upgrade to a new plextor dual layer burner!!I guess I will save that for the new system I am building.

dogbomb?? I'm confussed?? I would have to agree with scubapete's earlier findings of your earlier post.
Quote:
I lose all menu functions if I want to put them on one disk. For DVDXCopy, I can eliminate the extras and still keep my menus so I can pick and choose scenes (if the MAIN movie is less than 4.2GB). I'm not knocking DVD Shrink - it does very nicely on movies you want to put on a single disk, but if the main movie is more than 5.5 GB, I don't want to compress it to the point where I'm getting VHS quality. So For me, I will use DVD Shrink now for disks slightly over the 5 GB limit, but use DVDXCopy for the rest.
You probably haven't used DVD Shrink to often or you would know that it will do everything you say it wont. You can take out menus, subtitles, certain audio, and then you will normally have a full uncompressed movie. Perfect quality!
Check out my guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/dvdshrink.html

Hope this helps

Scuba Pete and everyone that has replied I want to thank you all for your help with this question. I've been doing alot of reading and I'm using DVD Shrink and haven't had a problem yet with backing up my DVD's! I haven't even had to use Decrypter yet which was a surprise.

The only problem I've encountered was I get to a part in the movie usually in the beginning of the movie where the movie pauses and jumps back to the previous chapter...if I fast forward past the part where if jump the rest of the movie plays fine...Any suggestions? I'm thinking it could be my player? I have an older Sony DVD player I don't have the model number and I"m using TDK 8x DVD+R's for media...Usually I'm only taking the main title and 5.1 sound and that's it...so I'm getting either 100% or mid 90's for compression everytime I burn. Not sure what it is...I read a post eariler from Scuba Pete about a similar problem...Any suggestions would help.

Good brand of disk's. Try burning @ x4.
Have you tried the movies in another player to see if it might be your player. Are the disk's DVD+ or - ?

Some older DVD players like the - better. The - are more compatable ( I should say more home players play -R's than +R's) with home DVD Players. I use both + and - but have better play back with the -R's on some players.

My 2 cents -

I also concure, drop your buning speed down to 4X and in DVD Shrink, adjust your "Target size" (in the "general tab", under "Preferences") to about 4300MB.

I'm thinking that may help elinminate your problem -

Cheers,

Pete

Just before you hit ok (after you hit back up) Go to the tab all the way to the right which says "Burn Settings" There you can adjust your burn settings..

Good luck :-)

Heh heh, Wild77,

That's the beauty of it my Friend, there's nothing you have to do except when you go to "Backup" - Then just chose under "Select backup target", 'Hard Disc Folder AND Burn with CopyToDVD" and everything will go automatically :P)

Cheers,

Pete

i totally agree with you. maybe later i will want all that.

but for now like you who wants all that extra stuff
on the dvd, all they do is aggratate the piss out of
me, and hold up the watching proccess.

i use dvdshrink and dvddecypter, get rid of everything
but the title and the main movie.

so far i load the dvd in my vcr/dvd recorder
it starts auto. here we go

I didn't know if I had mentioned to you that you've made a few friends here so we expect to see more of you, when you've got the time - Feel free to join us helping others, as you've seen, we try to have fun doing it :D) I thought I'd let you know, we have other forums also - Check'em out :) There's no telling, you might find one that's of interest to you. When in doubt, checkout the "Safety Valve", it's an almost anything goes Forum (keeping in fair to good taste of course). We shoot the breeze about most anything that's on your mind, Events of the day, Movies someone's seen and is looking for comments (they don't always get what they're expecting (Lol), jokes of the day - there's no telling what's there, it can get pretty wild - Guess you'll have to check into it yourselves, "Heck, you might even run into me there ;P)

Sea ya later,

Pete

I wanted to compare Nreo to CopytoDVD because my free trial runs out in a few days. I realy like CopytoDVD it has all the features I am looking for at a very reasonable price.I backed up Terminator 3 at 8x on a 4x dvd+r (by accident)on my Plextor PX-712. Forgot to adjust the settings in CopytoDVD before starting the backup. Can't wait to try the new PX-716 SATA dual layer drive!
