Please assist if you can.

When I backup a movie I only want the main movie (no extras and no annoying trailers before the movie) but I also want the main menu screen too.

I have searched these forums and have not found a method of burning the main movie only and keeping the main menu screen and loosing all other extras and unwanted audio.

In DVD Shrink (latest version) a message appears that states a menu system can only be done in full backup not re-authoring mode.

Is there a simple method out there of just having the main movie with the main menu on????? if there is I would really appreciate the advice.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth for the record.
I use both xcopy platinum and shrink. I bought Platinum in Jan 04, and despite searching the web at that time. wasn't aware of shrink. I think there is a place for both programmes.
I think platinum is an excellent programme, it is faster than shrink, you don't need spare disk space and in some cases where shrink produced an error, platinum worked.
Shrink is a bit more difficult ot use if you want to get the best out of it. On a standard tv i can't see any difference in picture quality.
However, with episodic dvd's such as frasier, fawlty towers etc, if they are large disks, platinum pixellates in spots, whereas shrink performs much better copying these dvd's. No question shrink is safer with episodic dvd's. I have had no luck trying to split dvd's with platinum, i can't get that function to work properly.
For straight movie copying, if you are in a hurry i prefer platinum although that red screen is annoying.
i just discovered here 321gone so i will try that.
Finally, if i had have found shrink prior to buying platinum, i doubt i would have bought platinum.

Jamo9000, dvdxcopy express will copy just the movie, no extras, no menus. Quick and easy to use.
DVD XCopy Platinum allows you to keep the menus and copy the movie only witohut extras.
DVD Shrink also allows you to delete the extras. It's free too!

Hi jamo9000, welcome to aD,

There is a 3rd choice, which does an excellent job. DVD Decrypter to rip in the file mode then Nero's recode2. You can trim off everything except your main movie, leave 1 extra or whatever and then burn to disc still keeping your menu function. A full version is available for 30-days and when that's up you can download it again. CloneDVD2 also does a super job as does DVD2One -(Ooooppp, I guess I went way overboard on my counting -:)

OK, stick with recode2 an extremely good and much underestimated proggy.

Give it a shot, you'll never lQQk back (well, maybe sometime you will, life becomes boring and you'll want to change.

For those who are doing the vote counting, recode2 for the top spot, DVD Shrink using Deep Analysis and the Quality Settings a good Second place and coming around the track 5 minutes after the race ended, XCopy for pple who are desperate and could care less about quality, XCopy.

And yes, I have the original XCopy, the original XCopy Xpress and I have XCopy Platinum too.

Cheers,

Pete

I used X Copy gold for about two months and then got my hands on a version of dvd shrink(3.1). the success rate with shrink has been hands down better then x copy. no more coasters. I havent come accross a thing that i cant copy. my only problem is finding media at a decent price.

I would say the easiest and most time consuming way to copy a DVD any way you like it would be Slysofts AnyDVD which is a driver that removes CCS protection in the backround while NeroRecode 2 encodes and compresses then burns the copy. I have found this to be the fastest way to copy a DVD movie. I have used DVD X Copy Platinum, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and none compare to the speed and quality of AnyDVD with NeroRecode 2. I must say though for FREE DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can't be beat. DVD X Copy Platinum on the other hand is a joke.

I wouuld have to go with DVD Decrypter and Nero recode 2 as well.I still use Shrink as well but you can't keep the menus with movie only.I have Xcopy Platinum and would not use it if they paid me!Anybody want to buy a copy? (LMFAO) ScubaPeteI am surprised you have not offered a guide for the newbies,on Decrypter and Recode2.

Heh, heh, Nero's recode2 is so much like DVD Shrink that if you can do one, you can do the other.

My major reason for doing DVD Shrink and DVDD is their cost. Newbies don't want to risk $$$$ on an unknown for fear they can't work it. Once they have DVD backups down pat then anything is up for grabs.

As for my appearance now, I heard someone say that recode2 was fast -

Iffin you wish to see fast, try intervideo's DVDCopy2 for a truly fast proggy AND for the fastest burner on the "Net" give CopyToDVD a try ?

Excellent proggys

hi.
I tried Nero recode 2 out and i really like the look of the program.

its not as fast as dvd x copy platinum as I burned a dvd in under an hour and recode 2 took 25 mins to read then 30 mins to analyse then 7 mins to burn.

My issue with recode 2. Is for all my dvds i just wanna keep the main movie and the main functional menu in tact for chapter selection etc.

Recode 2 allows you to disable the extras however on the dvd i was backing up it had a few movie trailers before the main menu appears. All recode 2 did was instead of showing the trailers I had to sit and watch a blank screen (which was used to replace the trailers). What I want is to be able to boot instantly into the main dvd menu. (completely remove extras and trailers at beginning of dvd's) I dont believe this is possible in recode 2 as it just replaces them with a picture or blank screen but they stay there for the duration of what the trailers(extras) would have been. however I am able to do this in x copy platinum.

If you are aware of a way to do what i am askin for with recode 2 I would appreciate a detailed explination.

If you liked the looks of Recode then check out DVD Shrink and use the Re-author mode to do main movie only.Shrink is a free program and works great, you can use Nero or Decrypter to burn with.

wild,

thanks for the info but I have and sometimes use shrink, however it does not have the capability of producing back ups with just the movie and MENU. You can produce movie only in re-author but it will not be able to produce the functional menu in this option.

I use shrink if I want to reproduce a full dvd. However I am looking to have backups with just main movie and original fully functional menu, Shrink does not offer this option.

jamo9000,

You need to use recode2 in the "remake a DVD". Using it in the proper mode will give you exactly what you're asking for - Just the movie, no blank screens and a working menu -

AFA time goes - un-check the encode slow for better quality (or something like that) and you'll have the same quality as DVD XCopy. If you want far better quality, it takes more time :)

Cheers,

Pete

I don't know of any way to remove the extras without Nero Recode 2 putting a blank screen or a screen of your choice. I don't like this either. I really don't do any re-authoring so I'm not sure what your best bet as far as programs to use. I usually only to a full backup DVDR. I'll check into though. When I use Slysofts AnyDVD which runs in the background and Nero Recode 2 I can do a DVD movie in about 45 minutes. About 30 minutes of encoding and 15 minutes (4X) of burning. That's as fast as I've gotten so far and I've tried about all the other software out there. This time is very consistent.

NERO RECODE 2 PROBLEM

I have used recode 2 a couple of times recently and I have successfully used the Recode entire dvd to dvd and also recode maain movie to dvd. These 2 options have worked great. However....

The problem lies in the 3rd option which is what i really want to use most of the time and that is the REMAKE DVD option.

I click on the import titles button and no matter where i direct it to i.e DVD drive, video_ts folder all i get is a blank screen and unable to select any files to import into the program. I have tried so many times and I can not get this remake option to see any dvd files to be able to import them. I am using Anydvd and I reiterate i can use the other 2 dvd options perfectly with no problems.

Please help and someone help as I really want to use this software to burn the main movie and keep the menus in tact.

Come to think of it andmerr I did try Sony's DVD Architect 2.0 and didn't like it a bit. The said thing is I'm a big Sony fan. My stereo receiver is a Sony Audio-Video Receiver and I bought a $900 Sony Super Beta VCR many moons ago and found it to produce much better quality than VHS but VHS won out. Back to Sony DVD Architect 2.0 is a fine program but didn't get the speed that I felt should be there. Basically this type of program is for creating DVD's not actually for copying though it will. This in my opinion is for the professional who wants to create and produce A DVD. I still have it installed on my system but only use it sometimes for creating DVD's from my Sony Digital Cam. It's one of the best programs for this purpose. I'm a BIG Sony fan!

Perhaps not the right forum but there seems to be some cluey ppl here.
Does anyone know of any software that will do a DVD Video copy of a disk formatted as VR, created on a DVD Recorder?
NeroVision will import VR disks, but i am looking for something that will do a straight copy.

There isn't one. You need to have a DVD VR formatted disc first and most proggys won't write to it. You need to render it first - it takes time - it's not always easy to do something complicated.

Cheers,

Pete

BTW, did you lQQk for something in our forums ?

Pete,
How do I render it? I don't mind if it takes time.
I ormat VR on the Recorder to enable on disk editing, a huge bonus. I can copy to HDD of recorder then copy back to a new dvd disk, so that takes time anyway. That works fine without quality loss, and the recorder has high speed copying. Most disks i can import ot NeeoVision but for some reason it won't import all disks.
Yes, I searched the forums, and left similar messages
in other forums, one dating back months ago.
