Was to lazy to read more than just the 1st page. Did anyone think to mention you don't have to put up with that stupid backup disclaimer DVD Xcopy puts at the begining of the disk. That alone is worth a kings ransom. I only switched because of Resident Evil Apocalypse. ALL THE WASTED YEARS!!! I should be kicked in the head repeatedly for all the wasted time and effort with Xcopy. I now am seriously considering re-doing my whole collection. (by the way...I see better quality with Shrink and Decrypter)

Hey there thanks for the previous info. However i am no closer to suceeding with my goal.

My intentions are to copy MOVIE only, but also keep the MAIN menu (for chapter selection etc) and also just as id like to have it.

Thus far I can only do this by using DVD x copy in advance, I select the movie and it seems to keep the menu automatically. This is ok but I would like to take advantage of the quality advance the other progs offer.

I know shrink does not allow movie only and menu. It just infoms that this is not possible unless you do a full dvd copy. I dont like the disable method as it just adds a blank screen or picture.

I want to use RECODE 2.
I have tried Recode 2 so many times and I dont seem to be able to burn a sucessful movie where I have only the movie and a functioning menu. I use the movie only option and that does just the movie and no menu

I tried remake dvd option and i select the main movie but then am not too sure how to copy over the menus, i tried just selecting them and adding them and all i ended up with was loads of small clips from the menu playin one after another then onto the movie (i.e no functionality at all) it just added them as if they were video clips. I tried adding the menu info into the dvd data section but again no joy.

Please if you know how to use recode 2 to get movie and main menu(fully functional) only I'd really appreciate guidence.

I must be the only one that doesnt care about the 321 backup message at the begining of the movie. Dunno being its a back up and not for selling why should it matter. However 321gone works well.

I have used several different programs, Shrink, Recode 2 Dvd X copy.

I have found DVD X copy perfect for the job i want it to do. I want to copy the MOVIE and MAIN MENU only.

I use the latest version of x copy and it works a treat for this job and all in just 3 clicks, by just selecting the main movie in advanced option it keeps the main menu intact. No silly 321 backup screen at the start of backup dvd or pop ups like @is this a rented dvd.

I agree for a full movie or movie only shrink or recode 2 now due to the deep analyis option would provide better results especially on larger movies, however these programs are unable to provide a movie and meny only option unless u replace the extras with blank screens and mess about for ages!!!

MOVIE + MENU - has to be DVD X COPY PLATINUM 4.0.4.15

Full movie backups or movie only(without menu) id have to say i agree with what seems to be the majority, shrink or recode 2 are better options as they provide better quality.

I've been toying with the Idea of using Dual Layer media and making a 1 to 1 copy of a disk with DVD Decrypter. (still looking/waiting for better prices at the moment) It would preserve the quality and get rid of denied functions like skipping adds in the begining of the disk. Has anyone ever found the odd movie out there that doesn't let you skip chapters to go straight to the movie. It will say something like "not available" or some crap when you try to skip or FFW through the preview. Man!!! that kind of SH!T burns me up! It's kinda rare but it's out there. DVD Decrypter removes all of that junk as an added bonus. I don't recall if Xcopy does.

You can use Nero Recode2 and do movie and menu only with no blank screens.Use theRemake DVD Mode.It works much better than Xcopy which is outdated, Overpriced and never to be updated.Anyone want to buy a copy cheap! LMFAO

nosmarbad,

I've been looking around, trying to find out where I saw it BUT all I could find was this from a senior member -

DVR to DVD by Veblin (Senior Member)

If you want to record directly to a DVD, buy a DVD recorder.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=dvd+recorders

If you want to get your video to your computer, we need to know what type of DVR you have.

If it's based on Replay TV, then it is just a matter of installing the correct software.
http://www.g4techtv.com/screensavers/features/564/Burn_ReplayTV_to_DVD.html
http://www.g4techtv.com/screensavers/features/426/Play_Your_PCs_Video_Files_on_ReplayTV.html
http://www.g4techtv.com/screensavers/features/44251/Turn_Your_PC_Into_a_ReplayTV_Unit.html

If it's based on TIVO, then it will need a more expensive hardware and software solution.
http://www.ptvupgrade.com/products/DVRchive/

If it something other than that go back to the first solution above.

It isn't what I was thinking of - it's been awhile so until I run across it the above will have to surfice -

Good Luck,

Pete

Let me know how you make out, OK ?

Shrink will rip movies, and if you do have a Problem there is always DVD Decrypter. There are a lot of movies Platinum won't copy without using other programs to rip the files.Xcopy will never be updated as they are out of buisness.

well in my opinion DVD Shrink kills dvd x copy, i tried dvdxcopy and my mind went nuts figuring the program out, i will stick with DVD Shrink, its simple even an old person can do it

all you have to do is click a couple of buttons, i read the guide once and memorized it cause it was soooo frickin easy to do. DVD Shrink gets a 9 and xcopy gets a 4 cause its too complicated. hope my opinion helps.

To answer your question, DVD Shrink is better. Yes, DVD XCopy can do it, with good quality IF you wish to spread it over 2 discs (of course many proggys can do it over 2 discs) BUT DVD Shrink and DVDD can do it better if we're talking about everything on a single disc and best of all, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are FREE and more up-to-date and can rip all of today's encryptions as opposed to XCopy which isn't made anymore and becomes more out-dated as the days roll by.

If you want to spend $$$$ then I like AnDVD + DVD2One + CopyToDVD. a bit better than DVD Shrink and DVDD, easy to use with a better transcoder and burning engine BUT we are talking about about $100.00 in cost.

Of course, as always, the choice is yours - either $$$$ or FREE -

Cheers,

Pete :)

Most of the time I use Shrink and Decrypter so I can "set it and forget it". I place a blank in one Drive and an origional in the other. The 1st time I ran it I got a pop up asking did I want it to burn since there was a blank in the other drive. Now it just does it automaticly. I can set it up and run out to the store and it's done before I get back. Too easy!

I personally prefer dvd shrink.

Dvd shrink is FREE!!

Dvd x copy was a expensive ripoff.

Dvd x copy was overpriced it crashed a lot and The most insulting part of all of it is i spent Over $300.00 on everything they ever made and Quess What?

Ever since robert moore ceo of 321 studios got rightfully put out of business by the MPAA nobody can activate the program on the internet anymore.

Imagine buying any computer program that would require the user to register and activate the program online or otherwise that program would be a useless piece of crap.

This is called corporate paranioa in which they don't even trust their own business customers.

I had the same problem with the sibelius g7 guitar notation program.

Honestly why would anybody in their right mind buy a patchwork of freeware or low priced shareware and combine it all together and charge $100.00 american dollars for it ?

Think about this...........

you can get dvd shrink and dvd decyrpter for free on the internet.

These programs don't require to activated or registered on line.

You can download these and copy them to cd or dvd rom.

You can buy clonedvd for forty dollars as a burning engine or pay seventy dollars for the all in one nero burning suite.

I also love slysoft.

It costs forty dollars but it works in the background and it works well with clonedvd or the nero burning suite.

I also had pretty good luck with dvdfab.

What i trying to say i did not feel sorry when robert moore of 321 studios was run out of business by the mpaa.

He was a ripoff artist.

You know under the circumstances the mpaa would never agree to lifting the css coding provision of the dmca and i personally think they are just as much as a big pile of assholes like robert moore but you would admit dvd x copy was a very expensive clustermaze of freeware programs and by rights it should have been no more expensive than clonedvd or slysoft the decss utilty program or the nero burning suite.

The only way people in the united states can get these things is on the internet.

MAYBE IT'S JUST AS WELL.

I could almost go along with the mpaa's position that a king size ripoff artist like robert moore of 321 studios selling things that he knew was againest the law like the dmca here in the united states he deserved to be sued and go out of business.

He tried fighting big corporate interests like the american movie studios and mpaa The united states congress and the united states court system and he LOST.

DUMB SLOB .......

The mosy ironic part of it all is the money the mpaa was awarded from 321 studios is that the proceeds from the court award will pay for piracy awareness.

Actually in all honesty I've had great luck with AnyDVD and Nero Recode 2. Sony has a new copy protection out that DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can't break. AnyDVD released a new version which will break this protection. One of the new movies with this protection is Resident Evil. A lot of people have had problems copying this movie but with the latest version of AnyDVD (4.5.5.1) and Nero Recode 2 not a problem at all. About 30 minutes and I had a backup copy. I wonder if DVD x Copy can copy this new Sony copy protection? AnyDVD and Nero Recode 2 is the way to go!
