ceno, where did you read that false info? Are you sure you know how the chip works? First off, the ps2 cant detect it, it just goes between the wire to the eject botton and the ps2, the detection you're talking about is for solder chips, and the good ones are anti detection. last i checked the ps2 is ment to supply enough power to open up the DVD tray.... All it does is open and close the tray, how is that stressing out the laser? and how is that at all worse than exposing your laser everytime you swap a game with the flip top? yes, you have a time limit, but it was obviously set for a good amount of time. I have never even cut it close. and even if you did, you can always open it again. I'm guessing you're a flip top man so i can understand why you thought that.

maybe his info was not "totally" false. i know for a fact that the no-solder chips popped fuses in two of my PS2's. the only thing i could determine is that the chip keeps the tray forced outward even at the stall point, which would cause i high current condition somewhere on the board. mine always made a whining noise when the tray was out for a swap, until one time when the tray was out and the whole system just went dead. this happened to two different systems of mine, with two different chips. thats when i went the fliptop route.

yeah both of mine did, in two different systems. both were V7's so i dont know if that had anything to do with it or not. I do know that i got 2 friends with no-solder chips in their V4's and they are still running fine after a year. sometimes i think i just got real shitty luck.

lol, i think it just might be the v7 chips. I have 3 friends with v4 chips that have not had a single problem.

SM CD3 does not work on my v4 PS2, which does not surprise me because someone has reported the same problem. However, I read somewhere that Action replay or Game shark will work for booting backup CDs. Can anyone tell me exactly what versions to buy and if it's a good choice or should I buy SM CD2 instead.

bizmoan and Soulja, thank you for your help. I was wondering where I could buy SM CD 2. Most websites only sell ver. 3.

Hey Darthnip, Dills, etc., with fliptop and sm2.0 on v4 ps2, for what reason would someone want to buy sm3.0. Can't seem to find discussion on basis for swap magic 3.0 - whats it do that version 2 doesn't???

Thanks man!! Guess I won't rush to buy it! Wonder where I could find out which games it fixes - probably fixes just cd-r based games since the sm3 dvd is still v2?? Your thread rocks Dills!

yup...im always around. :) I don't do a lot of backing up as I used to. I really don't buy or rent many new games for ps2. Just been too busy. I like to keep in the loop though.
Every once an awhile this thread gets spurts of life that fills my mailbox up. :) So i gotta check it out.

Glad its helped a lot of people.

peace all
